Adverbial Clauses
在復(fù)合句中,如作狀語的是一個(gè)從句,該從句被稱為狀語從句。作什么樣的狀語就叫什么類型的狀語從句,狀語從句可以表示時(shí)間、地點(diǎn)、原因、條件、目的、結(jié)果、讓步、比較和方式等。用從句來表達(dá)一件事情或一個(gè)行為發(fā)生的時(shí)間,這個(gè)從句就叫做時(shí)間狀語從句。
1. befre表示“在……之前”,如:
He studied here befre he went t Beijing.他去北京前在這里學(xué)習(xí)。
2. after表示“在……之后”,如:
I will g ut t play basketball with yu after I finish my hmewrk.我做完功課后就和你一起出去打籃球。
3. until 表示“直到”, 用引導(dǎo)一個(gè)時(shí)間狀語從句時(shí)一般譯為“直到才 ” 。如:
He waited until all the peple left.他一直等到所有的人都走了。
I didn’t g t bed until Mum came back.直到媽媽回家后我才上床睡覺。
4. when表示“當(dāng)……時(shí)候,那時(shí)” 表示一個(gè)動作緊接另一個(gè)動作發(fā)生或表示一個(gè)動作發(fā)生時(shí)另一個(gè)動作正在發(fā)生; 如:
I was ding my hmewrk when my father reached hme.我父親到家時(shí),我在做我的家庭作業(yè)。
as sn as表示“立即;一…… 就……”
5.由as sn as連接的時(shí)間狀語從句,表示主從句所述兩件事發(fā)生的時(shí)間相近。
We began t wrk as sn as we gt there. 我們一到那兒就馬上開始工作。
6. while 表示主句的行為在從句行為過程中發(fā)生,由于從句表示一個(gè)持續(xù)的行為,所以從句中要用持續(xù)性動詞或狀態(tài)動詞。
I reached hme while my mther was cking supper.我媽媽在做晚飯時(shí),我到家的。
While he was waiting fr a bus, he was reading a newspaper.他一邊等車一邊看報(bào)。
很多時(shí)間狀語從句,都是連詞引起的:
