D yu knw that the ldest tree is a 5, 000-year ld bristlecne pine (狐尾松) lcated in the frests f Nevada? Unfrtunately, many f these precius ld-grwth trees are starting t disappear frm ur planet. The term ld-grwth refers t trees that are 150 years r lder. This means that many f the trees n the Earth tday are yunger, smaller, and have shrter lifespans.
As the Earth’s temperature warms up due t climate change, it is having unintended effects n the wrld’s frests. After wildfires, it takes a while fr the frest ecsystems t recver, and in sme cases, the frests are lst permanently. Trees that are stressed are als susceptible (易受影響的) t attacks by bacteria (細菌). Finally, humans have changed the frest landscape thrugh lgging (伐木).

Old-grwth frests are a strehuse f carbn, and when they die, the stred CO2, is released int the air wrsening the greenhuse effect. Older frests have higher bidiversity, which is beneficial as each rganism has a rle t play and there is a wide variety f species. As these frests disappear, species that nce called them “hme” are frced t relcate, affecting the bidiversity f thse ecsystems. Unfrtunately, sme endangered species are unable t adapt and g extinct.
