M: Columbus was one of the few people who said the earth was round and that it ran around the sun. In 1492, he took ships and started sailing west. The ships were called The Nina, The Pinta and The Santa Maria. He hoped to reach India and discover a different way to the country and an improved route to bring valuable things back to Europe. Many of the countries in the west of the world which were part of Spain still have Spanish as their native language today.
