Sometime in 2014, two famous men, the hip-hop artist Wale and the popular comedian Jerry Seinfeld walked into a recording studio. They were working on a rap album, but at this particular moment they were talking about marriage.
While recording a song called The Matrimony(婚姻), Wale questioned Seinfeld about his thoughts on marriage. At first, Seinfeld talked about what it felt like to get engaged(訂婚). He explained the combination of excitement, nervousness and helplessness made engagement feel like sitting in a roller coaster heading to the top of the hill where the marriage awaits.
Wale paused for a moment, looked at Seinfeld, and said, “So, even if you make plans you never think you’re really ready for marriage?”
“No,” Seinfeld said. “Marriage is like any growth. You can’t be ready for it because it’s growth. It’s going to be new. You’re going to have a new life. You’re going to be a new person.”
I like Seinfeld’s definition of growth. You’re not ready for marriage. You’re not ready to start a business. You’re not ready to move to a new city. You’re not ready for growth... and that’s exactly why it will make you grow. Start before you feel ready.
By definition, growth must be something that makes you feel unprepared and uncertain. If it was comfortable and easy, it wouldn’t be growth. It would be normal. It would be standard. It would be who you already are.
There will never be a perfect time to do something that stretches you. At some point you have to embrace the uncertainty because it is the only path forward.
You can’t be ready for true growth. That’s why it’s growth. Just step into it with everything you’ve got.
8. Why did Wale and Seinfeld talk about marriage?
A. Because Seinfeld didn’t want to get married.
B. Because Wale needed advice for his marriage.
C. Because they were working on music about marriage.
D. Because they both were confused about marriage.
9. Which statement would Seinfeld agree with?
A. Getting married is like hiking a hill.
B. You can’t be ready for marriage.
C. You can’t get engaged unless fully prepared.
D. Engagement makes people relaxed.
10. What does the author probably think of growth?
A. It is uncertain. B. It is comfortable.
C. It is reliable. D. It is standard.
11. Which is the most suitable title for the text?
A. Start Before You Feel Ready in Growth B. No One Can Get Ready Before Marriage
C. Everybody Can Be Ready for Growth D. Face Uncertainty in Your Marriage
C 9. B 10. A 11. A

根據(jù)文章第四段“‘No,’ Seinfeld said. ‘Marriage is like any growth. You can’t be ready for it because it’s growth. It’s going to be new. You’re going to have a new life. You’re going to be a new person.’(“不,”宋飛說?!盎橐鼍拖袢魏纬砷L。你無法為此做好準(zhǔn)備,因為這是成長。它將是新的。你會有新生活的。你將成為一個全新的人。”)”可知,宋飛會同意的觀點是婚姻如同成長,不可能對此做好萬全準(zhǔn)備。故選B項。
【10題詳解】
細(xì)節(jié)理解題。根據(jù)文章第六段“By definition, growth must be something that makes you feel unprepared and uncertain. If it was comfortable and easy, it wouldn’t be growth. It would be normal. (從定義上講,成長一定是讓你感到毫無準(zhǔn)備和不確定的東西。如果它是舒適和容易的,那就不是成長。這很正常。)”可知,作者認(rèn)為成長是不確定的東西。故選A項。
根據(jù)文章最后兩段“There will never be a perfect time to do something that stretches you. At some point you have to embrace the uncertainty because it is the only path forward. You can’t be ready for true growth. That’s why it’s growth. Just step into it with everything you’ve got.(永遠(yuǎn)不會有一個完美的時間去做一些伸展你的事情。在某種程度上,你必須接受不確定性,因為這是前進的唯一道路。你無法為真正的成長做好準(zhǔn)備。這就是為什么它是成長。投入你所有的一切。)”可知,作者通過討論婚姻話題引發(fā)對成長的思考,但是作者鼓勵讀者不要等到一切萬全之后再開始。所以短文的最佳標(biāo)題為“在成長準(zhǔn)備就緒之前開始”。故選A項。

What do we mean when we talk about repair? The most commonly repaired items at home are wooden furniture and table lamps and other small lights, but many people express a level of discomfort for lack of knowledge about the skills required to repair them. However, we live in a time when many of the objects we buy come with limited lifespans(壽命) —especially technological and electrical goods.
Although some objects may require specialist aid, plenty of worn things around the home can be repaired there, if you know what you’re doing. “One hundred years ago, everyone needed to repair things themselves,” an expert says. “So many people had the skills, and they were passed down from generation to generation. And not only the skills, but also the tools. The tools almost became the memories of that repair and carried their own stories.”
Repair often feels pleasant because it is a moment of fixing. The holes can be filled. The gaps will be smoothed over. The language of repair has great significance in describing things: mending, fixing, restoring, rebuilding, piecing together. All are words we use for the objects around us, but also ones we apply to ourselves. We feel a little happy in the idea that few things are truly beyond salvage.
Repair is attractive for many reasons. It helps us think about how to care for the things we own. It makes us mindful of what we waste, and what we should hold on to. It reminds us to bend in closer and see the changes, the points where the needle went through the surface and pulled together something new.
12. How do many people feel when it comes to repairing things?
A. Very confident. B. A little scared.
C. Particularly interested. D. Slightly uneasy.
13. Which of the following is true according to paragraph 2?
A. Most worn things need to be repaired by specialists.
B. The repairing tools were once passed down for generations.
C. Words about repairing can not be used for people.
D. The process of repairing is often disappointing.
14. What does the underlined word “salvage” mean in paragraph 3?
A. Reach. B. Description. C. Repair. D. Reason.
15. What is the author’s attitude towards repair?
A. Indifferent. B. Positive. C. Doubtful. D. Curious.
D 13. B 14. C 15. B

We love our dogs and always try to take good care of them, but there are some simple things that can be harmful to our pets. ____16____
Playing fetch with sticks
Most dogs love playing fetch with sticks. It may be fun to throw one for your dog when you don’t have a ball or rubber toy handy, but they can be extremely dangerous. Sticks can easily break. ____17____ A stick can also go through a dog’s throat and get stuck there, which can be life threatening.
Feeding cooked bones
Dogs love eating bones and human leftovers, but cooked bones should never be fed to dogs. They can break into small, sharp pieces. They have the potential to cause choking or cuts to the mouth, throat or gut.
If you choose to feed your dog bones, only feed raw bones and always under control. ____18____
Not all dogs can swim
Dog owners often take it for granted that all dogs can swim, but in fact some dogs may not be able to swim at all. Pugs, French bulldogs, dachshunds and similar are often poor swimmers. ____19____ In order for these dogs to keep their noses and mouths above water they must stick their heads out from under water, which points their back end downwards, making them almost vertical in the water and likely to sink.
____20____ To do this, get in the water with them and support them under the body until they get the hang of using all four legs to push themselves forward. Don’t force your dog if they are not comfortable, and always start by paddling in a shallow area. Many dogs will learn to swim by following other dogs into the water.
A. So keep your dog from playing fetch with sticks.
B. That’s because they have heavy bodies, short legs or short noses.
C. Swimming in a pool is just a piece of cake for these dogs.
D. Most dogs need to be taught how to swim.
E. They can even kill the pets while many pet owners aren’t aware of them.
F. Chat to your vet about the right type of bones for your dog.
G. And the pieces can cut the mouth or throat.

上文“but there are some simple things that can be harmful to our pets(但是有一些簡單的事情會對寵物有害)”引出話題,總述有一些簡單的事情會對寵物造成傷害。
根據(jù)上文“Sticks can easily break (棍子很容易折斷) ”和下文“A stick can also go through a dog’s throat and get stuck there(棍子也可能穿過狗的喉嚨并且卡在那)”中的also推知,空處句子也應(yīng)是關(guān)于折斷的棍子會對狗狗造成的傷害,G項“這些碎片會割破嘴或喉嚨”符合題意,故選G。
根據(jù)上文“If you choose to feed your dog bones, only feed raw bones and always under control (如果你選擇喂你的狗骨頭,只能喂生骨頭并且要總是能確保不會失控)”推知,下文應(yīng)該提到關(guān)鍵詞bones,選項F“和你的獸醫(yī)談?wù)勥m合你的狗吃的骨頭類型”符合推測,且與上文承接自然,如果要給狗狗喂骨頭,應(yīng)該和獸醫(yī)談?wù)勥m合它的骨頭類型。
本空為這一段的開頭位置,下文“To do this, get in the water with them and support them under the body until they get the hang of using all four legs to push themselves forward(要做到這一點,你可以和它們一起下水,在下面支撐著它們的身體,直到它們能用這四條腿來推動自己前進)”說明如何教會狗游泳,因此空處所填內(nèi)容應(yīng)與教狗游泳有關(guān)。

I used to be very active in sports and games when I was in primary school. I won the long jump and was a fairly good runner. As a result, I was chosen to represent the school in the long jump and relay events at the District Sports Meet.
The meeting lasted two days. I had no events scheduled for the first day. So I kept myself busy by watching the others compete.
The next day, I was getting ready for my events. The long jump was scheduled for the early afternoon, followed by the 4×100 meters relay race later in the afternoon. I thought I was a pretty good jumper, but as the competition began, I realized I was wrong. I was not the best at all. 3.65 meters was not bad. Then there was Typhoon, who jumped over 4 meters! That was quite an achievement for a ten-year-old boy. I thought maybe getting a second place was also acceptable. However, when we finished our jumps, I came in fourth place, just missing out on a medal.
That was disappointing, but I reminded myself that we still had a chance in the 4×100 meters relay, for which I was to run the third leg. The race time arrived. We stepped to our places and prepared for the race. After a minute or so, I heard the starter’s gun go off. My heart beat so fast. When the first runners took off, I watched with held breath as my team runners kept up with the others. They were great! As they got closer, I realized we were almost in first place. I felt my blood began to boil when my teammate passed the baton(接力棒) on to my hand.
注意:1. 續(xù)寫詞數(shù)應(yīng)為150左右;
I took the baton and began my run.

We just accepted it was bad luck.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】one possible version:
I took the baton and began my run. The air rushed past me as I moved closer to the next runner. Then disaster struck! A boy run across the track into my path suddenly. I couldn’t get away from him. I knocked into him and we both fell. Because I was young, I was able to quickly pick myself up and continue the race. However, the incident cost us valuable time. I handed the baton to the next runner. He ran with all his might, but it was too late. We’d blown our chance at a medal.
We just accepted it was bad luck. We were young at the time and didn’t know what to say. We didn’t even know we could tell the judge about the accident, for which we could at least get some encouragement. I just felt terrible for letting the team down, but what was done was done, and we had no choice but to accept it. Finally, I left the sports meet empty-handed. Anyway, I learned about failure and how to deal with it, and I am grateful for the lessons.
