Carmen had always dreamed of being on stage (舞臺(tái)). She was excited when she got her first big break with a part in the school play. She would play the part of the doctor. She would wear long, white doctor’s coat and carry a big bag that held a newspaper with blank (空白的) pages and a box of bandages(繃帶). Carmen would say some lines. She would do some funny acts and try to make her friends laugh. She could hardly wait to act in a real play on stage.
As the play came closer, Carmen began to worry about being on stage. She just couldn’t remember her lines. She sat in her bedroom, saying the lines over and over again. They just wouldn’t stick in her head. It would be terrible if she forgot her lines on stage. She thought for a long time and decided to quit the play. She still wanted to be in the play, but she didn’t want to risk making a fool of herself on stage.
Carmen walked into the kitchen and said she wouldn’t be in the play. “Don’t worry so much.” Carmen’s father said. “You’re a talented young girl. You are a natural performer.” “Yes,” her mother agreed. “You’ll do better if you relax.”
Carmen knew they were right, but she couldn’t stop worrying. Suddenly, she had a great idea. She took out the newspaper and wrote all of her lines on the blank pages. Now she could look at newspaper and no one would know she was reading her lines. This would help her relax. That day Carmen went on stage. She said her first line. Then she said her next line. Carmen didn’t look at the newspaper once. Remembering her lines was easy because she was relaxed. As a result, Carmen remembered everything. After the play, Carmen let out a long deep breath and smiled happily. Carmen’s parents went backstage. They rushed over to congratulate(祝賀) her on a job well done.
“You are great!” Her mother said as she hugged Carmen.

Climate scientists are warning of serious problems for life in the Mediterranean Sea(地中海) because of high temperatures.
Temperatures have been reported from 3 to 5 degrees Celsius above usual temperatures for the summer. They reported that water temperatures have regularly gone above 30 degrees Celsius.
Marine heatwaves (海洋熱浪) are caused by ocean currents (洋流) building up areas of warm water. Weather systems and heat in the atmosphere can also add warmth to the water’s temperature. And just like heatwaves on land, marine heatwaves are longer, happen more often and are more intense (強(qiáng)烈的) because of climate change.
“The situation is very worrying,” says Joaquim Garrabou, a researcher at the Institute of Marine Sciences in Barcelona. “We are pushing the system too far. We have to take action as soon as possible.”
Garrabou is part of a team that recently published a report on heatwaves in the Mediterranean Sea between 2015 and 2019. The report says the heatwaves have led to the deaths of a large number of marine species. The Mediterranean Sea makes up less than one percent of the world’s oceans. But experts estimate (估計(jì)) it contains between 4 and 18 percent of the world’s known marine species. The study found about 50 species, including corals, sponges and seaweed, were affected along the Mediterranean coasts. The warming seas are driving native species to the edge of survival. Every summer their desired temperature is exceeded (超過), he said.
Recent scientific studies say that surface temperatures on the Mediterranean Sea have increased by 0.4 degrees Celsius every 10 years between 1982 and 2018. Yearly, it has been rising by 0.05 degrees Celsius over the past 10 years. Some scientists say even very small increases in average temperatures can have serious effects on ocean health.
11.Which is not mentioned as a reason for the marine heatwaves?
A.Climate change. B.Warm ocean currents.
C.Human activities. D.Heat in the atmosphere.
12.What happens to the native species in the Mediterranean Sea?
A.They are in danger of dying out. B.They are growing better than before.
C.They are being killed by human beings. D.They are forced to the edge of the ocean.
13.Which picture best describes the scientists’ feelings about the rising surface temperatures?
A. B. C. D.
14.What is the purpose of writing the text?
A.To draw attention to the problem of high temperatures in the Mediterranean Sea.
B.To praise the work of Garrabou on temperatures.
C.To introduce life in the Mediterranean Sea.
D.To describe the species in Mediterranean Sea.
15.Where is the text most probably from?
A.A Math textbook. B.A health Magazine.
C.A Travel guidebook. D.Newspaper.

We all have been told that we need at least 8 hours of sleep every night since we were kids. 16 Not many.
Sleep, indeed, is one of the most important things our bodies need to stay healthy. Without enough sleep, we can’t work efficiently (有效地). Meanwhile(與此同時(shí)), lack of sleep can even make us sick. 17
A lot of people eat late in the night and then try to sleep with a full stomach. 18 While you are trying to sleep, your body is working hard to absorb whatever you’ve eaten. Stay away from food a few hours before you go to bed so that your body can rest.
If you need more hours in the day to get your work done, try to make a choice whether to wake up extra early and then go to bed on time, or stay up late and then also get up late. Some people do better and are more efficient when they stay up late. 19 Do some tests on yourself to see which choice works better on you.
20 Your body and your mind are more efficient when a routine (常規(guī)) has been set and a habit has been formed. Follow the same positive (積極的) sleep patterns for a week or a month and you’ll notice a big change in how much more relaxed you feel.
