A Reading Material Exchange Activity
Last weekend, an exchange activity was held in the school hall for us Chinese students and the international students.
During the activity, we exchanged books and shared our thoughts and experiences with each other. We discussed the different cultures and customs of our countries, and shared our favorite books and stories. We also shared our knowledge of the English language and discussed ways to improve our language skills.
After the activity, we all felt a greater appreciation of different cultures and customs. We also gained insight into how to communicate with people from different backgrounds. Overall, it was a great experience and we all had a lot of fun.
Levinson started receiving donations from hind persons. Besides blankets, they also brought other necessities for the kids to survive the bitterly cold winter. A young mother even drove a long way with her little daughter to offer pairs of their hand-made gloves and some school supplies. Just as quickly, the school was showered with so many items that the library stood unusable, piled high with packages from donors. After carefully sorting out the donations, Levinson made a detailed list to make sure every kid could get the stuff they needed most.
Every kid was looking forward to the exciting moment. At the sight of the gifts, the kids could hardly contain their pure delight, bright eyes wide open, most sharing their portions immediately with their siblings. One little boy wiped his hands repeatedly on his coat before taking over the soft blanket, a broad smile on this face. “Who should I thank?” they would always ask. Levinson told them to remain kind and pay it forward when they grow up. Cold as the winter was, all the needy kids were enveloped in the warmth from the nice and generous strangers.

根據(jù)Knott’s Berry Farm中的“Knott’s Berry Farm is one of the most popular theme parks in California and it is also known as “America’s first theme park, “ for it is over 100 years old. 和“Work up your appetite from walking around the park all day for a delicious chicken dinner.”(為了一頓美味的雞肉晚餐,你可以在公園里散步一整天來增加你的食欲。)
根據(jù)Legoland California中的“Kids are excited when they see their favorite toys come to life at a whole amusement park.”(當孩子們看到他們最喜歡的玩具在整個游樂園里栩栩如生時,他們都很興奮)可知,為什么樂高樂園是加州的兒童樂園是因為他們可以生動地體驗他們最喜歡的玩具。

根據(jù)第一段中“Each packs plenty of food and water, a pair of rubber boots and sometimes a cup of hot chocolate. Then, I drop them off at a nearby park where they spend the entire day outside at a certified forest school.(每個人都帶了大量的食物和水,一雙橡膠靴,有時還有一杯熱巧克力。 以及第三段中的“In this program, kids direct their own play, climbing tall trees or testing ice on the frozen lake.(在這個項目中,孩子們指導自己的游戲,爬高大的樹木或在冰凍的湖面上測試冰。)”
根據(jù)第二段中的“Then I asked them if time ever seemed to move slowly, they stared at me in confusion. They didn’t understand my question, which fittingly removed it.(然后我問他們時間是否過得很慢,他們困惑地盯著我。
根據(jù)第四段中的主題句“Neither of their classroom teachers thinks it’s a problem, but most significantly, my kids are learning new and different skills that a classroom cannot teach.(他們的老師都不認為這是個問題,但最重要的是,我的孩子們正在學習新的和不同的技能,這是課堂上無法教授的。)”
根據(jù)最后一段“I appreciate it that forest school is shaping my boys’ relationship with the outdoors. They’re learning how to spend extended periods of time in nature, what to do to pass the time, and developing knowledge that will get them much closer to nature in the coming decades.(我很感激森林學校塑造了我的孩子們與戶外的關系。

文章第一段講到“Worried about accidents, towns and cities installed traffic towers to help the flow of cars.
文章第二段講到“But throughout the country, there were still a lot of systems for traffic lights and patterns in place. Since this could end up causing more problems for drivers
文章第三段講到“Red is the colour with the longest wavelength; that means that as it travels through air molecules, it gets diffused(擴散)less than other colour, so it can be seen from a greater distance. Yellow has a shorter wavelength than red but a longer wavelength than green. This means that red is visible the furthest away, yellow in the middle and green the least distance away—a helpful advanced warning for needing to slow or stop. But this could be a coincidence.Red meaning stop originated with train warning lights, and it’s not clear whether that was chosen based on wavelength, contrast against green nature or natural association of red with things like blood. It could be a combination of all three!(紅色是波長最長的顏色;這意味著,當它在空氣分子中傳播時,它比其他顏色的顏色擴散得更小,因此可以從更遠的地方看到。
文章最后一段講到“Back in the 1900s, some stop signs were yellow because it was too hard to see a red sign in a poorly lit area.

根據(jù)第一段“As thrift was introduced into mainstream pop culture, young people started going to thrift stores for cheaper, fashionable finds. Gen Z consumers state that sustainability is an important factor while making buying decisions. Many choose to shop for a second-hand or resale item of eco-friendly products.(隨著節(jié)儉被引入主流流行文化,年輕人開始去舊貨店買更便宜、更時尚的東西。
根據(jù)第二段“However, scientists recently have come to realize such trendy sustainable practices could actually be less rosy than expected.(然而,科學家們最近意識到,這種流行的可持續(xù)做法實際上可能沒有預期的那么美好)”以及第三段中“Actually, the root of this sustainability dilemma is not only assessing what you use in your life, but the overconsumption.(事實上,這種可持續(xù)發(fā)展困境的根源不僅在于評估你在生活中使用了什么,還在于過度消費)”可知,科學家們認為節(jié)儉購物帶來了潛在的令人擔憂的影響。故選D。
根據(jù)第三段中“Fitzpatrick adds, “we can clear out our entire wardrobe by leaving what we don’t want at a second-hand store with the hope that it’ll be put into good use. Instead of buying less, we trick ourselves into thinking we can shop our way out of the problem by donating again and again.”(菲茨帕特里克補充說:“我們可以把不想要的東西留在二手商店,希望它能得到很好的利用,這樣就可以清理我們的整個衣柜。
根據(jù)最后一段“So, when you walk into a thrift shop or really any store, it’s important to ask yourself whether it is necessary. While buying second-hand used to be economical and sustainable, it’s now about consumption and staying on trend. Just remember, when it comes to your wardrobe, less is more helpful for society and the planet.(所以,當你走進舊貨店或其他任何商店時,問問自己是否有必要這樣做是很重要的。 故選A。

Text 10
M: Hello everyone. My name’s Sandy Duffy and I’m here to tell you about my job as a video game writer. I work with game developers and designers to think of good stories, and I write all the dialogue in the game by myself. When I was in secondary school, I never imagined that I would do this job! I played the violin and that was what I planned to do as my job. But I had an accident when I was playing basketball and hurt my hand, so I had to think of doing something else. My mother wanted me to be a journalist, but I didn’t think it was right for me.
I didn’t know what to study at university. I was good at lots of science subjects, including Physics and Maths, but I also loved entertaining people and I was good at Art. In the end, I went to a film school where I studied lighting, special effects, how to use a camera... all that! It was there that I started to think about working in the video game industry.
People also ask me what I like best about being a video game writer. Well, the money is good and it’s quite exciting. Just last night, for example, I was at a big dinner where they were giving prizes for new games. But what I love most is the fact that I get on so well with everyone in the company. That’s what makes my job so much fun.
