I believe honesty is one of the greatest gifts there is. I know people call it a lot of fancy names these days, like integrity and forthrightness. But it doesn’t make any difference what they call it; it’s still what makes a man a good citizen. This is my code, and I try to live by it.
I’ve been in the business for thirty-five years, and know there is a lot about it that is not so good. Taxi drivers have to be tough fellows to be able to take the job in New York. You’ve got to be tough to fight the New York traffic eight hours a day these days. Because taxi drivers are tough, people get the wrong impression that they are bad. Taxi drivers are just like other ordinary people. Most of them will shake down as honest fellows. You read in the papers almost every week where some taxi drivers turn in money or jewels, or stuff like that, left in their taxis. If they weren’t honest, you wouldn’t be reading those stories in the papers.
One time in Brooklyn, I found a gold ring in my taxi. I remembered helping a lady with a lot of purchases that day; so I went back to where I had dropped her. It took me almost two days to trace her down in order to return the ring to her. I didn’t get more than a “thank you”. Still, I felt good because I had done what was right. I think I felt better than she did.
In all my years of driving a taxi, I have never had any trouble with the public, not even with the drunk. Even if they get a little stubborn once in a while, I just agree with them and then they behave themselves. People ask me about tips. As far as I know, practically everyone will give you something. Come to think of it, most Americans are pretty generous. I always try to be nice to everyone, whether they tip or not. I believe in goodness of others and try to be a good member of my community. I try to act toward others as how I want to be treated. I have been trying this for a long time, and the longer I try, the easier it gets.
24.What kind of people are most taxi drivers indeed?
A.Rude. B.Honest. C.Greedy. D.Aggressive.
25.What happened after the author returned the gold ring?
A.The owner was wild with joy.
B.He was spoken highly of by the owner.
C.The owner didn’t present much gratitude.
D.He was in sadness due to the owner’s reaction.
26.What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A.The author tried to make the world better. B.The author often gives rides to the drunk.
C.Americans always find fault with taxi drivers. D.The author treats American customers better.
27.What’s the best title of the passage?
A.Customers Are Our God B.Honesty Is a Great Gift
C.The Golden Rules of Being a Taxi Driver D.Secrets of Getting on with Customers

As scientists in the Netherlands tried to figure out how to build a super flying robot, they learned from one of nature s flyers: the humble fruit fly(果蠅).And by building this robot, they’ve gained new insights into how the fly carries out one of its dangerous tasks.
The robot is called the DelFly Nimble Its wingspan(冀展)is about a foot wide. It has four wings that can beat at 17 times per second, which appear very delicate because they’re made of the same material as space blankets.
In the previous designs. they always had a tail, like a traditional airplane tail, said the robots main designer Matej Karasek. He’s based at the Micro Air Vehicle Laboratory at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands, and he and his colleagues published their findings on Thursday in Science
“In the previous generations", he said, "flapping wings drove the robot forward while the tail helped to guide and stabilize it. But now the DelFly Nimble is completely controlled by the wings. The challenge then was actually combine the control into the wing movement, and that’s what we achieved, Karasek said
In the latest generation. the wings can each move individually or rotate(旋轉(zhuǎn))around the body of the robot in order to maximize the machine s agility(靈活 ) The robot can remain in one place in the air for about five minutes on a full battery or fly for more than a kilometer", Karasek said, "And because the scientists are controlling all the movements, they can use the robot to learn more about how fruit flies actually carry out their dangerous tasks, which has caught the attention of biologists.”
28.Where did scientists get the creative idea of the flying robot?
A.From a fruit fly B.From the birds wings
C.From some fruit D.From an airplane
29.What does the underlined word "it" in Paragraph 4 probably refer to?
A.A full battery. B.A flapping wing.
C.The DelFly Nimble D.The humble fruit fly
30.What interests biologists most about fruit flies?
A.That they are very tiny insects.
B.That they conduct challenging tasks
C.That they can be easily found in the world.
D.That they have light wings and fly quickly.
31.Where is the text probably taken?
A.A research paper. B.A travel brochure
C.A health magazine D.A chemistry textbook

A recent study suggests teaching children to understand other people’s perspectives (觀點(diǎn)) could make it easier for them to learn how to forgive other people and that teaching children to make sincere apologies can help them receive forgiveness from others.
“Forgiveness is important in children and adults for restoring (恢復(fù)) relationships and limiting future conflicts,” says Kelly Lynn Mulvey, lead author of the study. “But we didn’t know much about what makes children more likely to forgive others, particularly from early childhood to adolescence. That’s what we wanted to explore with our study.”
To that end, Mulvey studied 185 children between the ages of 5 and 14. They found that children are more likely to forgive someone if they have apologized. Mulvey says, “Children are able to restore relationships with others, and are usually interested in doing so.”
The researchers found two things related to forgiveness that parents and teachers should focus on. One is helping kids understand how important it is to apologize in a meaningful way. “Children are able to recognize an insincere apology, and insincere apologies are not helpful in encouraging forgiveness,” Mulvey says. “The apology needs to make it clear that someone understands why what they did was wrong. This, in turn, makes other kids more likely to give them a second chance.”
The second focus is helping kids understand the perspectives of other people, even if they are different from yours. “One of the biggest implications (可能的影響) of our study is that teachers and parents need to actively help children learn the theory of mind skills,” Mulvey says. “A good starting point is getting kids to explain the reason behind their actions and how this might make other people feel. Helping young people develop these skills in childhood will aid them in dealing with diverse and complex matters.
32.What does Mulvey’s study focus on?
A.Ways to avoid future conflicts.
B.Children’s forgiving others easily.
C.The necessity of sincere apologies.
D.The importance of understanding others.
33.Who are more likely to gain children’s forgiveness according to the study?
A.Those who have made a sincere apology.
B.Those who get along well with others.
C.Those who have excellent social skills.
D.Those who are willing to make compromises.
34.What does the underlined word “This” in Paragraph 4 refer to?
A.The way to apologize.
B.The ability to forgive others.
C.The case that kids acknowledge their faults.
D.The case that kids know the meaning of apology.
35.What can we conclude about the theory of mind skills from the text?
A.It inspires kids to improve their behavior.
B.It helps kids to solve complicated problems.
C.It assists kids in handling emotional issues.
D.It makes kids aware of the difference between people.

【原文】W: My musical inspiration is the English singer, Leona Lewis. One reason I admire her is that she’s got a great voice. She also inspires me because she is so determined and ambitious. Leona was born in London in 1985. She dreamed of a career in music from an early age. She wrote her first song at the age of twelve and made her first recording when she was only fifteen years old. In 2006, she became the first female winner of the British talent show, The X-Factor and she made her first album, Spirit. Probably her greatest achievement was when she sang at the Olympic closing ceremony in Beijing in 2008 in front of a TV audience of three billion people. Another reason I admire her is that she is not only a talented and successful singer, she is also a very brave person. She always speaks her mind on important issues such as cancer awareness and vegetarianism. To sum up, Leona Lewis is my musical inspiration and an inspiration to all young people because she has already achieved so many great things in her career. She has sold millions of albums; she has won many music awards and she has appeared with artists like Take That and Mariah Carey.
