In 2020 the Senegalese Golf Federation agreed to help Jai establish a golf academy, in preparation for the 2026 summer youth Olympics in Dakar. It would be the first Olympic games to ever be held on African soil. The project was postponed due to Covid, but it's expected to restart this year.
Jai will be tasked with training Senegal’s first ever national team, with a specific focus on preparing the next generation of female golfers including her daughter.
“Girls will be part of it I mean on an equal basis like boys, and that would be something that I think we are prepared and committed to do. And Jai also has that vision and committed to promote a girl to give them opportunity, as a girl I mean, to help them get to the level that they can be.” Said the executive director of Senegalese Golf Federation.

Mandy and Joe have been married for five years and they both love travelling to new countries. But while this shared hobby brings them together, it is also a source of contention. “I do all the planning and book,” says Mandy. “Don’t get me wrong. I enjoy it, but if Joe paid a bit more attention, he wouldn’t have turned up for a flight to Grenada packed for a winter city break. ‘Jumpers and boots?!’ I cried. ‘You’re supposed to have packed shorts and T-shirts—it’s 30℃ in the Caribbean!’ Then I realized he thought we were going to Granada, in Spain.”
How Joe and Mandy each approach their travel plans is just one example of the many ways in which men and women differ. Yet, is what goes on inside our minds and bodies really so different? Furthermore, are we born that way?
On this issue, scientists are divided. The majority of scientists believed that patterns of behaviour thought to be more male or female are learnt firstly from our parents, then from our peers(同齡人)and, ultimately, from the societies in which we live. As Simone de Beauvoir famously said, “One is not born, but rather becomes, a woman.”
On the other side of the fence sat those who believed that male and female brains are actually wired differently. In one study in which 34 monkeys were required to interact with different types of toys, the males showed a strong preference for toys with wheels rather than soft toys, whereas the females were noticeably drawn to soft toys. These preferences were clearly not the result of parental influence.
Whatever the truth behind the differences between men and women, we can safely conclude that although the social impact on how we think and behave is undeniable, there exists a biological contribution. The question that now needs answering is to what extent biology affects the choices we make and the way other people treat us.
8. What does the underlined word in Paragraph 1 probably mean?
A. Disagreement. B. Satisfaction. C. Inspiration. D. Information.
9. What topic does the text focus on?
A. Whether men and women are different. B. Why minds and bodies are so different.
C. What causes the sex difference. D. How different males and females are.
10. What does the study about monkeys prove?
A. Monkeys have their own preferences. B. Parents indeed have strong impacts.
C. Men and women are born different. D. Females and males behave differently.
11. Which statement about sex differences docs the author probably agree with?
A. Biology contributes to the difference. B. Biology mostly affects our choices.
C. Social influence can be ignored. D. Peers have more impact than parents.
【答案】8. A 9. C 10. C 11. A

Have you ever wondered what the food you eat every day can tell you about where you come from? Have you ever wondered why people from different parts of the world eat different types of food? Do you ever ask yourself why certain foods or culinary (烹飪的) traditions are so important to your culture? There is more of a connection between food and culture than you may think.
On an individual level, we grow up eating the food of our cultures. It becomes a part of who each of us is. Many of us associate food from our childhood with warm feelings and good memories and it ties us to our families, holding a special and personal value for us.
On a larger scale, food is an important part of culture. Traditional cuisine is passed down from one generation to the next. It also operates as an expression of cultural identity. Immigrants bring the food of their countries with them wherever they go and cooking traditional food is a way of preserving their culture when they move to new places.
In China, harmony is a vital quality in almost every aspect of life. This is reflected in Chinese cuisine, where almost every flavor is used in a balanced way creating delicious dishes with flavors that go well together. The cuisine of the United States also reflects its history. The European colonization of the Americas brought European ingredients and cooking styles to the U.S.
As the world becomes more globalized, it is easier to access cuisines from different cultures. We should embrace our heritage(傳統(tǒng))through our culture's food but we should also become more informed about other cultures by trying their foods. It's important to remember that each dish has a special place in the culture to which it belongs, and is special to those who prepare it.

A. A link between food and culture.
B. Connections between food and the growth of people.

D. Concerns about food and culture.
13. What does the underlined word "It" in Paragraph 3 refer to?

A. It is rich in all kinds of vitamins.
B. It balances the dishes of different countries.
C. It is extremely crucial to balance people's daily life.
D. It contains abundant dishes with various flavors.
15. What can we learn about food from this passage?
A. It binds us to the society, holding a special and personal value for us.
B. The European colonist in Americas brought the ingredients and cooking styles from their hometown to the USA.
C. In Chinese culture, harmony in cuisine is of little significance.
D. We should refuse the cuisines in other cultures.
