Every year around August, millions of teens take their parents to stores to buy new clothes for the start of the school year. Not every parent can afford this, and some teens are forced to go to school in the same clothes they wore last year. The obvious differences in clothes cause differences among students. There is a simple solution to this problem: school uniforms(校服).
I know from personal experience and surveys that wearing uniforms creates a sense of equality among peers(同齡人間的平等).
From sixth grade until I graduated from high school, I attended a school that required students to wear uniforms. The uniform was very simple: dark brown shoes, green-brown pants, and a white shirt. The uniform left little room for any kind of self-expression, especially through clothes.
However, I learned how to stand out by expressing myself through my personality, art, and sports. I did not know I could draw until the sixth grade. I also would never have learned of my musical abilities if it were not for my desire to find ways to express myself. Uniforms taught me that I was myself, except what I wore.
Uniforms also help to a much safer learning environment. I remember a particular event that happened in my junior year of high school. A man ran away from prison and wanted to hide in the gym of our school. Luckily, cameras all over the school quickly found the stranger before any danger could ever happen as he was out of place. School officials kept the man locked inside our gym until the police came to take him back to prison.
Uniforms help provide a better educational experience for all students no matter what race, culture, or economic class(經(jīng)濟階層). In closing, wearing uniforms is good for both schools and students.
24. How does the author introduce the topic?
A. By explaining a basic rule.
B. By challenging others’ views.
C. By sharing his parents’ experience.
D. By describing a common problem.
25. Which of the following might the author agree with?
A. Uniforms should be more modern.
B. Uniforms are popular with students.
C. Uniforms can help shape better students.
D. Uniforms are bad for self-development.
26. What do the underlined words “out of place” in paragraph 5 probably mean?
A. Running fast. B. Standing straight.
C. Dressing differently. D. Breathing heavily.
27. What is the author’s purpose in writing the text?
A. To record his high school life.
B. To introduce high school uniforms.
C. To ask students to like what they wear.
D. To show his favorable view towards uniforms.
You probably learned in elementary school that counting the rings of a tree trunk is a simple way to measure its history and age. But what if you need to find out how old a live and healthy tree is without calling in an expert?
Cutting it open to determine its age would cause irreversible(不可逆轉(zhuǎn)的) damage to a live tree. But there is one quick way to determine a standing tree’s age and it calls for a bit of math. First use a tape measure to record the circumference(周長) of the tree trunk at roughly 1.3 meters from the ground. Next, it’s time to determine the tree’s diameter(直徑). To do that, divide the tree’s circumference by pi(3.14). Then, take the diameter and multiply it by the species’ specific growth factor(因子) number. This is where knowing the tree species is vital.
Scientists used their knowledge to uncover growth factors for each tree species. Multiplying the tree’s diameter by the tree’s specific growth factor will give you the tree’s rough age.
Growth factors vary from two to seven and beyond. The growth factors for some of the most common tree species include: red maple: 4.5, cottonwood: 2, sugar maple: 5.5, dogwood: 7, and white oak: 5. So let’s take a red maple, which has a growth factor of 4.5, and assume it has a circumference of 22 inches. To get its age, divide 22 inches by pi to get the tree’s diameter — 7 inches. Now take 7 and multiply that by 4.5, which is the red maple’s growth factor and you get 31.5, the rough age of the tree.
This is a simple way to count roughly a tree’s age without threatening the tree’s health, but it doesn’t guarantee 100 percent exactness; growth factors are most exact for trees found in healthy forests. Urban trees face stressors like poor soil or limited growing areas that may affect their overall health and growth.
28. What is the problem with the familiar method of counting a tree’s age?
A. It is not exact. B. It is not suitable for a living tree.
C. It needs the help of an expert. D. It takes too much time.
29. What is important in calculating the age of a live tree?
A. The tree species. B. The growth speed of the tree.
C. The height of the tree. D. The living environment of the tree.
30. What is the age of a sugar maple 6 inches in diameter?
A. 27. B. 30. C. 33. D. 42.
31. Which would be the best title for this passage?
A. Uncover Trees’ Growth Factors
B. What Affects the Age of a Tree
C. How to Keep a Tree Live and Healthy
D. How to Get the Age of a Live Tree Mathematically
The ability to use the left hand is referred to as left-handedness. Left-handedness is actually more common in the male population than in females. There are a number of myths about them.
It is difficult for left-handed children to learn writing of the alphabet, without personal tutoring. Not true at all. Observe the left-handed toddler. Everyone else is more bothered about his left-handedness than he himself is. The left-handed child adapts to writing, drawing and all other activities that require him to hold a writing tool as early as the right-handed. In fact, many left-handed people display neater handwriting than their right-handed partners.
Lefties have a lesser chance of surviving a hand-to-hand fight. This is anything but true. History bears witness to the advantage left-handedness had during hand-to-hand fights and even within the boxing ring. In fact, a common observation is that the left-handed fighter is able to strike a strong surprise attack on the open, unprotected right side.
Left-handed people are many a time at the disadvantage of using tools designed for the right-handed. Well, this is true, but today, there is a whole range of tools and equipment being designed for left-handed people. Many right-handed tools can be molded to suit the needs of the left-handed craftsman. Even the computer mouse has been challenged in use and the touch pad provides a left-handed professional equal opportunity.
Research shows that left-handed people are in fact high achievers. This is because their brains are structured to widen their abilities. A number of mathematical, artistic and sporting geniuses were and are left-handed. However, most left-handers over the world, might have, at some stage in their life, been on the receiving end of devalued comments regarding their choice of hand. I am sure this list and discussion about left-handed people would be reason enough to be proud of being left-handed.
32. Compared to right-handed children, what can we learn about left-handed ones?
A. They find it hard to learn writing.
B. They are tired of the left-handedness.
C. They are used to writing tools too late.
D. They may have more beautiful handwriting.
33. What advantage do lefties have in hand-to-hand fights?
A. They could start a surprise attack with their left hands.
B. They could attack their partners’ left sides surprisingly.
C. They have a better chance to beat their partners in history.
D. They are good at fighting especially within the boxing ring.
34. What is the computer mouse mentioned to show us?
A. Left-handed people are in fact high achievers.
B. Left-handed people have many disadvantages.
C. Many tools are designed for the left-handed.
D. Many left-handed receive bad remarks daily.
35. What is the author’s attitude to left-handedness?
A. Indifferent. B. Confused. C. Critical. D. Favorable.

Christmas Day was coming. I was just a kid then, and my big sister told me there was no Santa Claus. I fled to my Grandma because she would be straight with me. I knew Grandma always told me the truth. Grandma was home, and I told her everything. “No Santa Claus?” She shouted. “Ridiculous! Don’t believe it. Now, put on your coat, and let’s go.”
“Go where, Grandma?” I asked. “Where” turned out to be Kerby’s General Store, the one store in town that had a little bit of just about everything. As we walked through its doors, Grandma handed me ten dollars. “Take this money, and buy something for someone who needs it. I’ll wait for you in the car.” Then she turned and walked out of Kerby’s.
I was only eight years old. I’d often gone shopping with my mother, but never had I shopped for anything all by myself. The store seemed big and crowded, full of people competing to finish their Christmas shopping. For a few moments I just stood there, confused, holding that ten-dollar bill, wondering what to buy and who to buy it for. I suddenly thought of Bobby Decker, who was a kid with bad breath and messy hair. He sat right behind me in Mrs. Pollock’s grade-two class. Bobby Decker didn’t have a coat. I knew that because he never went out for break during the winter. His mother always wrote a note, telling the teacher that he had a cough, but we kids knew that Bobby Decker didn’t have a cough, and he didn’t have a coat. I would buy Bobby Decker a coat! I chose a red one, which looked really warm, and he would like that.
“Is this a Christmas present for someone?” the lady behind the counter asked kindly, as I laid ten dollars down. “Yes.”
The nice lady smiled at me, put the coat in a bag and wished me a Merry Christmas.

W: Well, I am 14, and if you are going to town shopping, you can never have enough money. Everything is so expensive.
M: But is it a fair amount of money compared with what your friends get?
W: Well, we all get the same, but I have to buy all my music things as well as things for school. And I have hardly anything left to spend on clothes.
M: Right, do you have to help around the house?
W: Not really.
M: So you don’t have to do anything for this pocket money?!
W: Mom said if I did that, I would never have time to do my schoolwork.
M: Has she said you can have more pocket money when you’re 15?
W: Well, Mom just says she’ll decide when I am ready to have more, and I have just got to wait.
M: Maybe you should sit down with her and say “How can I prove that I am old enough to get more?”
W: So, I should talk to her again?
M: Yes, but don’t argue with her. Just discuss it calmly.
W: OK thanks!

Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. Welcome to east campus library. To start your tour, I’m going to give you some useful information and regulations. I won’t keep you long. First, how to enter our library. Thanks to the advanced technology, you just need to bring your student card and touch it in front of the touch point and the door will automatically open for you. Then the opening hours. Our library is open from 9 am to 10 pm every weekday. For the weekends, it’s only open from 11 am to 4 pm. Please bear that in mind, so you won’t come in vain. Our library is also open for the local residents. And there are differences for students and the public: our current students can borrow up to 12 books at a time. However, for the rest, the maximum they can borrow is 9. You need to return the books on time, or your library account will be blocked and you can’t borrow any more books. Remember books have different due days according to their popularity. Mostly, the books should be returned within 4 weeks, but for the popular books you have to bring them back within only one week. The last thing I must mention here is that you are not allowed to smoke in the library anywhere at any time. And as to drinks, only bottled water is allowed to bring in. OK, now it’s time to show you where everything is.

根據(jù)第二段“I know from personal experience and surveys that wearing uniforms creates a sense of equality among peers(同齡人間的平等).”(我從個人經(jīng)歷和調(diào)查中了解到,穿制服會在同齡人之間產(chǎn)生一種平等感),第四段“Uniforms taught me that I was myself, except what I wore.”(校服讓我知道我就是我自己,除了我的穿著。)、第五段“Uniforms also help to a much safer learning environment.”(校服還有助于營造更安全的學(xué)習(xí)環(huán)境。)和最后一段“Uniforms help provide a better educational experience for all students no matter what race, culture, or economic class(經(jīng)濟階層).”(校服有助于為所有學(xué)生提供更好的教育體驗,無論什么種族、文化或經(jīng)濟階層)可知,作者認(rèn)為校服對學(xué)生有很大好處,能夠幫助塑造更好的學(xué)生。故選C。
根據(jù)第五段“Luckily, cameras all over the school quickly found the stranger before any danger could ever happen as he was out of place.”(幸運的是,在可能發(fā)生危險之前,遍布學(xué)校里的攝像頭很快發(fā)現(xiàn)了這個陌生人,因為他out of place。)
根據(jù)最后一段“In closing, wearing uniforms is good for both schools and students.”(總之,穿校服對學(xué)校和學(xué)生都有好處。)

根據(jù)第一段中“You probably learned in elementary school that counting the rings of a tree trunk is a simple way to measure its history and age.”(你可能在小學(xué)就學(xué)到,計算樹干的年輪是一個簡單的衡量它的歷史和年齡的方法。)及第二段中“Cutting it open to determine its age would cause irreversible(不可逆轉(zhuǎn)的) damage to a live tree.”(把它切開以確定它的年齡會對一棵活樹造成不可逆轉(zhuǎn)的傷害。)
根據(jù)第二段中“Then, take the diameter and multiply it by the species’ specific growth factor(因子) number. This is where knowing the tree species is vital.”(然后,取直徑乘以物種的特定生長因子數(shù)。 故選A。
根據(jù)第三段中“Multiplying the tree’s diameter by the tree’s specific growth factor will give you the tree’s rough age.”(把樹的直徑乘以樹的特定生長因子,你就得到了樹的大概年齡。)及第四段中“The growth factors for some of the most common tree species include: red maple: 4.5, cottonwood: 2, sugar maple: 5.5,”(一些最常見的樹種的生長因子包括:紅楓:4.5;楊木:2;糖楓:5.5)可知,糖楓的特定生長因子為5.5,結(jié)合題干中提到的直徑為6英寸,所以這棵糖楓的樹齡為:5.5*6=33,故選C。
通讀全文,根據(jù)文章第二段中“But there is one quick way to determine a standing tree’s age and it calls for a bit of math.”(但是有一種快速的方法可以確定一棵活樹的年齡,這需要一些數(shù)學(xué)知識。)

根據(jù)第二段“In fact, many left-handed people display neater handwriting than their right-handed partners.(事實上,許多左撇子的字寫得比右撇子同伴更好。)”
根據(jù)第三段“In fact, a common observation is that the left-handed fighter is able to strike a strong surprise attack on the open, unprotected right side.(事實上,一個普遍的觀察是,左撇子戰(zhàn)斗者能夠在張開的、沒有保護的右側(cè)發(fā)動強烈的突然襲擊。)” 故選A。
根據(jù)第四段“Left-handed people are many a time at the disadvantage of using tools designed for the right-handed. Well, this is true, but today, there is a whole range of tools and equipment being designed for left-handed people. Many right-handed tools too are available, such that they can be molded to suit the needs of the left-handed craftsman. Even the computer mouse has been challenged in use and the touch pad provides a left-handed professional equal opportunity.(左撇子很多時候在使用為右撇子設(shè)計的工具時處于劣勢。
根據(jù)最后一段“I am sure this list and discussion about left-handed people would be reason enough to be proud of being left-handed.(我相信這份名單和關(guān)于左撇子的討論足以讓我們?yōu)樽约菏亲笃沧佣院?。)”
36. C????37. E????38. A????39. F????40. D
36. 根據(jù)前文“These two words can inspire both joy and fear in the hearts of students everywhere.(這兩個字可以在各地的學(xué)生心中激起喜悅和恐懼)”可知,本段會分別說喜歡運動和恐懼運動的人,再根據(jù)后文“For others, it might feel like having to take part in something they aren’t good at.(對其他人來說,這可能就像不得不參加他們不擅長的事情一樣)”可知,后文講過恐懼運動的人,所以空處應(yīng)是喜歡運動的人,所以C項“For many, sports day can be a great day of fun.(對許多人來說,運動會是很有趣的一天)”符合文意。故選C項。
37. 由上文“They hope that by making sports days less competitive, children of all abilities will be encouraged to take part without fear of losing. Exercise and fitness is important for everyone, no matter how good at sport you are.(他們希望通過減少運動日的競爭性,激發(fā)所有能力的孩子參加運動,而不必?fù)?dān)心失敗。運動和健身對每個人來說都很重要,無論你在運動方面有多擅長)”可知,上文講非競爭性運動讓所有孩子不必?fù)?dān)心失敗,盡情地運動,這是它的益處,E選項“Everyone should be celebrated for trying and playing their part.(每個人都應(yīng)該為自己的努力和發(fā)揮作用而慶祝)”承接上文講非競爭性運動給孩子帶來的益處。故選E項。
38. 由上文“However, some people feel that it’s important that sport has winners and that learning to lose is just as important as learning how to win.(然而,一些人認(rèn)為運動有贏家很重要,學(xué)會輸和學(xué)會如何贏一樣重要)”和下文“Particularly, on a sports day which is your chance to really prove yourself!(尤其是在運動日,這是你真正證明自己的機會?。笨芍舷挛闹v贏的重要性,A選項“What’s the point if no one wins?(如果沒有人贏,那有什么意義?)”體現(xiàn)了對嬴得看重。故選A項。
39. 分析設(shè)空可知,空處位于段首,起到引領(lǐng)全段的作用,是對本段的高度概括,所以根據(jù)后文“According to a 2017 survey by Families Online, 82% of parents say they prefer ‘traditional’ competitive sports days. Many adults feel that children can learn valuable lessons in both winning and losing.(據(jù)家庭在線2017年的一項調(diào)查,82%的父母表示他們更喜歡‘傳統(tǒng)的’競技體育日。許多成年人認(rèn)為孩子可以從輸贏中學(xué)到寶貴的經(jīng)驗)”可知,本段是在講大部分人都同意上文提到的觀點,特別是父母,所以F項“There are lots of people who agree with the idea — parents in particular!(有很多人同意這個想法,尤其是父母!)”
40. 根據(jù)后文“We want to know your ideas.(我們想知道你的想法)”可推斷,空處應(yīng)是提了一個問題,此處才會說想知道你的想法,再根據(jù)前文“People have different ideas about whether it is the winning or the taking part that counts when it comes to school sports days.(當(dāng)談到學(xué)校運動會時,到底是獲勝還是參與才是重要的,人們有不同的看法)”可知,本段主要是在討論學(xué)校運動會,所以應(yīng)該是針對學(xué)校運動會提問。所以D項“So, should School Sports Day be competitive or not?(那么,學(xué)校運動會是否應(yīng)該是競爭性的呢?)”

A. classmate同班同學(xué);B. partner伙伴;C. family家人;D. friend朋友。

A. big大的;B. small小的;C. tall高的;D. thin瘦的。根據(jù)前文“I was in the beginning stage of Lyme disease.(我當(dāng)時正處于萊姆病的初期階段)”可知,作者由于生病和藥物變得很胖,因此,對于孩子尺碼的戲服來說,她太“大”了。故選A項。
A. appear出現(xiàn);B. work工作;C. cheat欺騙;D. crack裂開。根據(jù)主語“the adult costumes(成人戲服)”可推知,成人的戲服應(yīng)該也不適合作者,“work for sb.”
A. annoyed惱怒的;B. puzzled困惑的;C. heartbroken傷心的;D. confused困惑的。根據(jù)后文“I thought I would never be ____9____ enough or skinny enough to be the princess that I wanted to be(我覺得我永遠(yuǎn)都不可能長得足夠漂亮或足夠瘦,成為我想成為的公主)”可知,作者以為自己永遠(yuǎn)都不能成為“公主”了,應(yīng)是很傷心。故選C項。

A. hard困難的;B. convenient方便的;C. strange奇怪的;D. possible可能的?! 故選A項。
A. room房間;B. size尺寸;C. hand手;D. pack紙包。

A. shared分享;B. heard聽見;C. learned學(xué)會;D. requested要求。分析語境可知,后文“no matter what you look like, you can be a princess(不管你長什么樣子,你都可以成為公主)”是作者通過這個經(jīng)歷所學(xué)到的生活哲理。故選C項。
A. wealth財富;B. shock震驚;C. health健康;D. mind精神。根據(jù)前文作者的認(rèn)知“I’ve ____14___ that no matter what you look like, you can be a princess. A princess isn’t a size.(我明白了,不管你長什么樣子,你都可以成為公主。公主不是尺碼的問題)”可知,“瘦”或“漂亮”不是成為公主的標(biāo)準(zhǔn),而是一種精神。故選D項。

58. 考查動詞語態(tài)。句意:事實上,在過去的幾年里,人們采取了一些措施來保護老虎。根據(jù)時間狀語over the last few years可知,謂語動詞應(yīng)用現(xiàn)在完成時,主語a number of steps為復(fù)數(shù),助動詞應(yīng)用have,take與邏輯主語a number of steps為動賓關(guān)系,應(yīng)用被動語態(tài)。故填have been taken。
固定短語in the early 2000s,意為“在21世紀(jì)初”,設(shè)空處應(yīng)用定冠詞the,表特指。故填the。
固定短語a variety of,意為“各種各樣的”,設(shè)空處應(yīng)填名詞 variety。故填variety。

故填To achieve。
固定搭配not only ... but(also),意為“不但……而且……”,設(shè)空處應(yīng)用連詞but。故填but。
故填from。
Dear Jim,
I am really sorry to know that you have been suffering from poor health these days. In response to your request in the last letter, I am glad to offer my advice.
First of all, a balanced diet is of prime importance, considering how obsessed you are with sweet food. It is urgent that you eat more fresh vegetables and fruit and avoid food high in fat and sugar. Besides, daily exercise is equally important. Stick to it, and you will definitely get in better shape. Furthermore, it is said that you will have a healthier heart with at least 7 hours of sleep every night. So, do get enough sleep! One more thing: stay positive and smile more.
I do hope my advice will be of practical help to you. I’m looking forward to your recovery.
Yours,
Li Hua

Paragraph 1:
That evening, Grandma helped me wrap(包裹) the coat in Christmas paper. She wrote “To Bobby, from Santa Claus” on it, after which she drove me over to Bobby’s house, explaining I was officially one of the Santa’s helpers. Grandma parked down the street from Bobby’s house, and I took a deep breath, dashing for his front door. Seeing no other people notice us, I put the Christmas present down, pounded on his doorbell and then I hid in the car with my grandma.
Paragraph2:
Grandma and I waited breathlessly for Bobby Decker’s front door to open. Finally, it opened. Out went Bobby Decker. Seeing the coat in the bag, he glanced around and looked quite astonished. Seconds later, he called his mother to go out for a check. Hearing them say “Thanks” to Santa Clause, I felt very proud of what I had done. At that moment, I even made up my mind to be Santa’s helper forever. It was on that night that I realized the truth that a person who has no Christmas in his heart will never find Christmas present under the tree.
