The most popular album (音樂專輯)
Thriller by Michael Jackson

The Shawshank Redemption

It was raining. I went into a cafe and asked for a coffee. While waiting for my drink, I realized there were other people in the place, but I sensed loneliness. I saw their bodies, but I couldn’t feel their souls (靈魂) because their souls belonged to the Net.
I stood up and walked between the tables. When I came to the biggest computer, I saw a thin, small man sitting in front of it. “I am Steve,” he finally answered after I asked him a couple of times what his name was. “I can’t talk with you. I’m busy,” he said. He was chatting online and, at the same time playing a computer game — a war game. I was surprised.
Why didn’t Steve want to talk with me? I tried again to speak to that computer geek (癡迷者), but not a word came out of his mouth. I touched his shoulder, but no reaction. I was unhappy. I put my hand in front of the monitor and he shouted, “Leave me alone.” I took a few steps back, wondering if all those people were having a nice conversation with their machines, not with people, especially Steve. I wouldn’t predict the future of human beings if they preferred sharing their lives with machines instead of with people. I was worried and deep in my thought. I didn’t even realize that the coffee was bad, just as Steve didn’t notice there was a person next to him.

We all know there is a problem with plastic pollution. Five trillion plastic bags are used every year. One million plastic drinking bottles are bought every minute. What if we could use plastic waste to build roads? This is what Toby McCartney has already done.
In 2019, McCartney’s UK-based company, MacRebur, built the world’s first plastic road in Elgin town, Scotland. The plastic waste was made into grains (顆粒) and then mixed with bitumen (瀝青). The road looks just like any other road. But it has improved strength and is more stretchy (有彈性的) thanks to the plastic.
“Our technology can not only help solve the problem of plastic waste but also produce roads that deal better with changes in the weather, reducing cracks (裂縫) and potholes (路面的坑洼),” McCartney told the BBC.
McCartney’s idea came from a trip to India. “I saw people in India would put plastic waste into potholes and burn it. The plastic would melt (熔化) down and form a seal in the hole,” said McCartney.
“I knew that there must be some similarities between the plastic and bitumen, which both come from oil. That’s how I started to think about mixing them,” he said.
“We’re just a small part of ending the plastic problems, but it’s nice to be part of it,” McCartney said. “I just don’t want my daughters to live in a world where there are more plastics in our oceans than fish.”
31.Paragraph 1 is written to show that plastic pollution is ________.
A.faster than expected B.better than other pollution
C.a(chǎn) serious problem D.mostly unknown
32.Compared (比較) with normal roads, the plastic road ________.
a. is not easy to break
b. is afraid of hot weather
c. is more stretchy
d. costs more money
A.a(chǎn)b B.a(chǎn)c C.bc D.bd
33.What does McCartney mean in the last paragraph?
A.Plastic pollution will soon be solved with his help.
B.Children should also join to reduce plastic pollution.
C.Plastic pollution is becoming more and more serious.
D.He is willing to offer help in reducing plastic pollution.

Dorothy and her friends were nervous to get out of the forest as soon as they could, so they hurried along the yellow brick road. It was not long before they came to a wider river.
“What can we do now?” Dorothy cried. “There isn’t a tree tall enough to fall across this river.”
“There’s no problem,” the Scarecrow said. “The Tin Woodman will build a raft (木筏).”
And this is what the Tin Woodman did. And while he was busy making the raft, Dorothy found some wild fruit and nuts, which she ate hungrily. Then, because it was taking the Tin Woodman a long time to finish the raft, Dorothy lay down and went to sleep.
The night passed without any problems, and the next morning the small raft was ready. Dorothy sat in the middle with Toto. The lion stood at one end and nearly made the boat sink (沉沒) because he was so big and heavy. The Scarecrow and the Tin Woodman stood at the other end. They both had long poles (桿子) that they used to push the raft through the water.
At first all went well, but then the river became deep, but the poles couldn’t not touch the bottom. The Tin Woodman said, “If we cannot stay near the land and the yellow brick road, the Wicked Witch of the West will use her magic and hurt us.”
“And then we won’t meet the Wizard, and I won’t get any wisdom,” the Scarecrow said.
“And I won’t get a heart,” the Tin Woodman said.
“And I won’t get any courage,” the Lion said.
“And I’ll never get home to Kansas,” Dorothy said. “We must do something.”
The Scarecrow was able to push the raft to the river bank. Dorothy, Toto, the Lion and the Tin Woodman got off. Before the Scarecrow could get off, however, the boat moved away from the river bank and carried the Scarecrow down the river.
Dorothy said, “Perhaps we’ll meet the raft further down the river. The most important thing now is to get back to the yellow brick road and continue on our way to the City of Emeralds.”
The Lion and the Tin Woodman agreed, and they set off along the river bank. It was not long before they saw the Scarecrow. He was holding onto the pole in the middle of the river. There was no sign of the raft.

The pilot, Antoine De Saint-Exupery, who wrote The Little Prince, died long ago, but the fictional pilot, who told the story, is as alive today as he was many years ago, along with his Prince, the fox, the rose and the snake.
This timeless tale touches upon childhood and growing up. It opens with the reminder: All grown-ups were once children—but few of them remember it. The pilot in this story loses that part of himself. After a stay in the desert with the little prince, he finds his inner child again. It is a simple story with life lessons. Here are some.
One only understands the things that one tames. Seeing the thousands of roses that look just like his rose makes the prince feel as if he was tricked by his flower. The fox shows him taming someone takes time. The prince understands the nature of relationships: the time he has wasted on his rose makes her so important.
The fox, as his parting gift, shares his secret with the prince: “One can see rightly with the heart. What is essential (基本的) is invisible (看不見的) to the eye. ” When the pilot shows his picture about the snake eating the elephant, adults only see it as a hat. Adults can’t see what’s inside the snake.
What is on the surface is not what matters. This truth sets the little prince free. He decides to join his rose back on his planet.
Has he returned to his planet and his rose? The ending exists in the imagination of every reader and the pilot. After all, it is a book with something for everyone.
