Whether it is Mozart or Miley, your choice of music could determine whether you will perform well at your job.A new study suggests that listening to music in the office improves the speed and accuracy of tasks such as data entry, proofreading and problem solving. An office-based experiment,88 percent of par-ticipants were found to produce their most accurate work when listening to music.
The study also found that 81 percent completed their work fastest when music was played. And it matters what type of music you listen to. For instance, if you're doing your tax returns, then classical music is the most effective as it improves maths skills.
Listening to Jessie J or Justin Bieber could also improve your speed, with 58 percent of participants completing data entry tasks faster while listening to pop songs.During proofreading, dance music, such as David Guetta, had the biggest positive impact with participants increasing their speed by 20 percent com-pared to tests undertaken with no music at all. Dance music also had a positive effect on spell-checking with a 75 percent pass rate compared to 68 percent when no music was played at all.
The research, undertaken by Brighton-based Mindlab International, suggests that silent offices may be the least productive. The Musie Works experiment revealed a positive correlation between music and pro-ductivity.Overall,it showed that when listening to music, nine out of ten people performed better, said Dr David Lewis, chairman of Mindlab International.

About 20,000 years ago, much of Europe,Asia,North and South America was covered by huge sheets(片)of ice, each many kilometres thick.Since then, the ice has gradually melted and the ice sheets have retreated.Today, the only ice sheets on Earth's land masses are found in Antarctica and Greenland. Some ice also occurs as glaciers in mountainous regions and as floating ice floes(浮冰塊)in the Arctic O-cean and around Antarctica.
At first sight, these remote left-overs from the last Ice Age seem of little importance for most of us to-day.However,nothing could be further from the truth. Many scientists believe that our planet is warming as a result of the greenhouse gases that we are pumping into the atmosphere. If the planet becomes warmer, the ice sheets will start to melt, causing sea level to rise perhaps several metres by the end of this century.Such a rise would cause widespread flooding of low-lying coastal areas and threaten many large cities.
Observations from space suggest that parts of the major ice sheets are beginning to melt more rapid-ly.Meanwhile,recent satellite images have also shown that unusually large areas of sea ice have been melting during the Arctic summer.Although sea level will not be affected by the melting of the floating ice, there will be other important environmental changes. For example, ice sheets act like a mirror,reflec-ting sunlight and cooling Earth. If the ice disappears,Earth is likely to become warmer and major climate changes could occur. Wildlife living in the polar regions may also be destroyed.
32.What does the underlined word “retreated” in Paragraph 1 probably mean?
A.Grown.
B.Reduced.
C.Formed.
D.Increased.
33.What's most common people's attitude towards the ice sheets?
A.Optimistic.
B.Critical.
C.Sincere.
D.Unconcerned.
34.What would happen if the greenhouse gases continue to increase?
A.Vast amounts of land will be flooded.
B.Large cities in the world will disappear.
C.The sea level will drop to its lowest level.
D.Global temperatures will see ups and downs.
35.What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A.Ice sheets melt faster than floating ice.
B.The melting of floating ice isn't damaging.
C.Sea ice melting will have disastrous effects.
D.Space research contributes to climate changes.

Have you ever come from a vacation feeling more tired than you were? Most travelers often need to rush from one tourist attraction to another.36.It means renting an apartment for a week or more and exploring your surroundings on foot or by car. It can also mean taking a bike tour from one village to the next so that you can see the scenery along the way. But no matter how you do it,the key is slowing down.
37 .It not only allows you to escape from your own stressful everyday life but also to fall naturally into the pace of another culture.38.You'll have enough time to know your neighbors or local shops.

Slow travel is often kinder to your budget as well. Staying in one place for a week or more at a time reduces your transportation costs, and vacation rentals are often cheaper than hotels since they allow you to cook your own food.40_,you'll save more money.
Therefore, slow travel is an increasingly popular choice for people looking to enrich their travel experiences.
A. That is what slow travel means
B. There are many benefits of slow travel
C. If you choose a home exchange
D. The slow traveler wastes time exploring places as much as possible.

M:Well, when I was 15,I began playing the violin and one year later, I learnt to play base guitar. I found it so interesting. I've played it for five years.
W:I'm sure you will be a great rock star. Are there any other instruments you can play?
M:Of course, erhu, a Chinese musical instrument.
W:Wow,so nice! Do you tour or do you just play where you live?

M:I've noticed that you have been having trouble in one of your classes. Is there anything I can do to help?
W:Well,Mr.Hobart,I'm struggling to keep up with my math homework. I’m also studying history and chemistry for my other midterms, and math just doesn't come easy for me.
M:That's normal. I wasn't the greatest math student when I was young. You do have some choices, though. W:Like what?
M:One of them is to take an after school class with Mr. Jennings. He’s in charge of the math department.
W:I've heard of that. The problem is that I have volleyball practice on Tuesdays and Fridays. It's re-ally important to me.
M:I see. The other choice is to find a tutor. We have a number of students from our Gifted Program who tutor various subjects for extra credit. It’s during the lunch hour.
W:That would be great. When can I do that?
M:Every Monday and Thursday. Go to see Mrs.Lee, and she'll sign you up.
