Best Sleep Music Apps
If you want to sleep better at night, trying a sleep music app might be the answer. Here are some ideal sleep music apps to choose from.
Calm
Calm is one of the most popular sleep music apps and its large library of relaxing and sleep-causing tracks is largely responsible for that. This app offers a free version, but to really take advantage of what Calm has to offer, you had better choose the paid version, which costs $ 69.99 for one year. A lifetime membership is $ 399.99.
Relax Melodies
Relax Melodies is intended to calm your mind with relaxing sound. The composer is visual and easy to use, and the Discover page gives you access to other app features, like bedtime stories and breathing exercises. Though its free version provides a great introduction to the idea of sleep music, the paid version unlocks a larger library of sounds. Consider paying for it if there’re particular sounds or features that really attract you.
Headspace
Headspace is a feature-rich app designed in a simple way that makes it quick and easy to use its library of sleep-specific music. The Sleep icon at the bottom of the app is easy to identify and leads to a library of options that include Sleep Music and Sleep Radio. It’s worth noting that nearly everything in Headspace’s Sleep Library requires an extra subscription. Headspace costs $ 69.99 annually, or you can pay $ 12.99 per month.
Pzizz
Pzizz offers sleep music tracks you can use at naptime, bedtime, or to improve focus. One thing that makes Pzizz different is its voice narration(旁白) option. If you find the presence of a calming voice to be comforting or benefit from someone helping you to relax your body and mind, then Pzizz is a good choice for you. Male and female voice options are available and the voice is low and calm. It has a free version but you should pay for extra subscriptions.

2. How much should you pay at least for the one-year subscription of Headspace?

On a cold winter day, Don took his dogs, Milo and Duke, out for their usual morning walk at Bark Park. But this peaceful walk was interrupted by Mike, an anxious dog owner who was missing his best friend. His small gray dog, Jackson, had gotten lost somewhere in the park — and he’d already been gone for quite some time. Small dogs don’t do very well in cold weather. Knowing that there was no time to waste, Don and his own dogs immediately started searching the park. Unfortunately, Jackson was nowhere to be found.
If Don hadn’t had his own dogs with him, Jackson might never have been found in time. Don was about to give up on the search and was already heading back to his car. But as Don and his dogs were crossing the bridge, Milo suddenly noticed something in the water. Thinking that his dog had seen a duck or something else, Don tried to pull on the leash, but Milo wouldn’t listen. Duke joined in, and the two dogs insisted that something was going on.
Don looked out across the bridge and saw a small, gray shape struggling in the icy river. The reality of the situation clicked, and Don immediately began running down to the water’s edge. Don called 911, but he knew that help wouldn’t arrive in time. Without even sparing a thought for himself, the brave man jumped into the water and moved straight towards the terrified dog. Jackson was trapped in ice and barely holding himself above water. Don used his arms to break the ice and quickly pulled the dog into his arms. The two swam out of the water and back onto dry land. Mike was waiting for Jackson and rushed him straight to a nearby vet clinic. It’s reported that Jackson didn't suffer any harm from the incident and is as cheerful as ever.
4. What was Don doing when he met Mike?
A. Swimming. B. Playing games.
C. Taking exercise. D. Walking his dogs.
5. Who first saw the missing dog, Jackson?
A. Don. B. Mike. C. Milo. D. Duke.
6. Why did Don jump into water to rescue Jackson?
A. Jackson was his best friend.
B. He loved the dog very much.
C. Milo and Duke asked him to do so.
D. There wasn’t enough time waiting for the rescue.
7. What is the best title for the passage?
A. Brave dogs: Milo and Duke B. Missing dog found in the river
C. Brave man saves dog trapped in ice D. A walk on a cold morning in the park
Jimmy Choi is a cyclist, and a world record holder for push-ups. He also happens to be living with Parkinson’s disease. He was diagnosed with the brain disorder in 2003, suffering from involuntary shaking and problems with walking and balancing. There is currently no cure. Jimmy has to quit the sports. Soon he commits himself to being a motivational speaker and advocating for people with the disease.
Jimmy often shares his struggles on social media, and in a recent video, he expressed his annoyance at the packaging of the pills he needs to take. It showed his shaking hand trying to get a tiny pill from the bottle. Jimmy wasn’t the only one facing such a problem. Brian Alldridge, a videographer, saw his video and immediately decided to do something to help him and everyone else dealing with this problem. He sat down at his computer and taught himself 3D modeling software. Within two days, Brian designed a new medicine bottle that separates a single pill in a container.
Brian made his own video and offered his design free of charge to anyone with a 3D printer who would be willing to create a physical prototype. “I expected maybe one or two people to message me when I couldn’t guarantee that the device would actually work. Instead, thousands of people offered to print the thing the next day,” Brian said, feeling so surprised. “Even more told me that someone they knew could benefit from it.”
The online community took it from there, printing out many versions of Brian’s design until they had a prototype to send to Jimmy. Jimmy was just surprised by their support, and he eagerly tested every version of it. The creators of the pill bottle now feel like there’s nothing they can’t do! “If you think of a way to improve the lives of others, there’s a most likely way to make it happen.” Brian said.
8. What do we know about Jimmy in face of Parkinson’s disease?
A. He feels upset about leaving sports. B. He makes great efforts to recover.
C. He becomes devoted to a new career. D. He lives in great pain from the disease.
9. What did Jimmy show in the recent video?
A. Poor packaging of his pills. B. Bothering with reaching pills.
C. Design of a new medicine bottle. D. Requirements for people with Parkinson.
10. Why did Brian feel surprised?
A. So many people responded to him. B. The bottle worked better than expected.
C. His design benefited many patients. D. Jimmy tried all versions of the bottle.
11. What do the creators think of the creation of the pill bottle?
A. There is nothing they can’t accept. B. There is nothing they can’t imagine.
C. There is nothing they can’t control. D. There is nothing they can’t achieve.
The Silk Road is arguably the most famous long-distance trade route of the ancient world. This passage connected Europe in the West with China in the East, and allowed the exchange of goods, technology, and ideas between the two civilizations. Although merchants could make huge profits travelling the road, it was not without risk.
The main Silk Road started in Chang’an (known today as Xi’an), the early Han capital. Travelers commencing their journey from this city could take a northern route that would take them across China’s northwestern provinces. After this, they would face the Gobi Desert, arguably the greatest danger of the Silk Road.
The Gobi Desert, the largest desert in Asia, consists mainly of rocky, hard earth. This feature made it easier for traders to travel across, compared to sandy deserts like the neighboring Taklamakan Desert. Like other deserts, the Gobi Desert is dry and hot, and therefore the biggest challenge travelers faced was obtaining enough water for themselves as well as for their camels.
So, rest stops were created along the route, allowing travelers to rest, eat and drink. These places also promoted the exchange of goods, and even ideas, amongst the travelers who stopped there. Usually, the rest stops were placed within a day’s journey of each other. In this way, travelers could avoid spending too much time in the desert, which would make them targets for robbers, another danger of the Silk Road.
Once through the Gobi Desert, travelers would continue their journey into Iran, Turkey, and finally Europe. Whilst this part of the journey may have been less dangerous, it is not entirely without its perils.
12. The underlined word “it” in the first paragraph refers to _______.
A. making huge profits B. traveling the Silk Road
C. exchanging goods and ideas D. connecting different civilizations
13. Why was the Gobi Desert easier to cross than other deserts?
A. The desert’s surface was easier to walk on.
B. Camels for transportation were easier to find.
C. It was smaller and could be crossed in less time.
D. There were more natural water sources available.
14. What can we guess about the rest stops in the Gobi Desert?
A. Travelers were offered free accommodation.
B. They were located around the edges of the desert.
C. Travelers staying there were often attacked by criminals.
D. They were shared by travelers from different countries.
15. What is the passage mainly about?
A. The origins of the Silk Road.
B. The benefits of the Silk Road.
C. The difficulties faced by Silk Road travelers.
D. The cultural exchanges among Silk Road travelers.

I am a mother of three children and have recently completed my college degree.
The last class I had to take was sociology(社會(huì)學(xué)). The teacher offered inspiring teaching that I wish every human could be graced with. Her last project of the term was called “Smile”. The class was asked to go out and smile at three people and document their reactions.
I am a very friendly person and always smile at everyone and say hello anyway, so I thought this would be a piece of cake. Soon after we were given the project, my husband, the youngest son, and I went out to McDonald’s in a cold morning. It was just our way of sharing special playtime with our son. We were standing in line, waiting to be served, when all of a sudden everyone around us began to back away, and even so did my husband.
I did not move a bit. A strong feeling of fear turned up as I turned to see why they had moved. As I turned around, I smelled a terrible “dirty body” smell, and standing behind me were two poor homeless men. As I looked down at the short gentleman, close to me, he was “smiling”. His beautiful sky blue eyes were full of hope as he searched for acceptance.
He said, “Good day!” as he counted the few coins he had been holding. The second man was obviously mentally disabled. I held my tears when I stood there with them.
The young lady at the counter asked him what they wanted. He said, “Coffee is all, Miss.” because that was all they could afford (If they wanted to sit in the restaurant and warm up, they had to buy something. They just wanted to be warm.).
Then I really felt the desire was so great that I almost reached out my hands and hugged the little man with the blue eyes.
Paragraph 1:
At that moment I noticed all eyes in the restaurant were staring at me.
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph 2:
I turned in “my project” and the instructor read it.

Paragraph 1:
At that moment I noticed all eyes in the restaurant were staring at me. I smiled and asked the waitress to give me two more breakfast on separate trays. I put the trays on the table and the blue-eyed gentleman looked up at me tearfully. I started to cry as I walked away. When I sat down, my husband smiled at me. We held hands firmly. I returned to college, on the last evening of class, with this story in my hand.
Paragraph 2:
I turned in “my project” and the instructor read it. Then she asked, “Can I share this?” I nodded as she got the attention of the class. She began to read and I knew that we humans shared this need to help people and to be helped. In my own way I had touched the people at McDonald’s, my husband, my son, the instructor, and every soul in the classroom. I graduated with one of the biggest lessons I had ever learned: unconditional acceptance.
