I started going to physical therapy (治療) . I believed it could help, so I 52 at it. Just when it seemed I’d never again walk 53 I did before, I did just that.
When hope doesn’t grow bright, believing 54 the way and makes all things possible. We need to believe healing is possible. If we can see it in our minds and 55 it in our hearts and believe it in our souls, we can begin to move forward with our lives.

I was walking home from work on a busy city street with lots of people. J wasn’t looking forward to going home, because my friends were busy with their own business and weren’t able to spend time lazily with me. It’s then when I walked past a homeless person that I hadn’t seen before. He was moving back and forth (來回地) to stay warm, and very gently asking for some change. His words for money were so quiet that I could hardly hear him.
Something made me stop, turn around and walk up to him. At the same time, some thoughts appeared in my head like, “What do you think you’re doing?” You’re alone, its dark out and you’re a woman.” Before I knew what I was doing asked him if he had had dinner yet and if he would like to join me at a nearby restaurant. He said he hadn’t eaten and he would like to. So he walked with me a few yards to the restaurant and held the door open for me as we entered.
He asked for the smallest thing on the menu, but I ordered a larger meal and I explained that the price wasn’t worth worrying about. We had a good dinner and a pleasant conversation about our life like where we grew up and what kind of music we liked. During the whole time, I just tried to say the right thing and give him the respect and care everyone has. I didn’t want to show that I was better than him.

When you think of the Arctic (北極), you imagine an icy land of pure white snow. Others imagine it as the last really clean place left on earth. We have polluted the deepest oceans with plastic rubbish. “And now”, CNN says, “It’s the Arctic’s turn.”
German scientists have recently found microplastics in Arctic snow. Microplastics are pieces of plastic smaller than 5 millimeters. Sadly, the scientists found 1800 pieces of microplastics per liter (每升) of snow.
How is plastic pollution reaching the Arctic? According to scientists, “It’s clear that most of the microplastics in the snow come from the air.” They fall off the plastic objects and are moved by the wind, just like dust. They mix with ice in the air and fall to the ground as snow. Finding these plastics in Arctic snow means that we may breathe them in.
Are they bad for us? Scientists cannot answer this question for now, according to the WHO. We do know that our bodies cannot take in “l(fā)arge” pieces of microplastics. However, if the plastics are small enough, they can find ways into our bodies and stay there for a long time, which can be bad for our health. What’s more, earlier studies have shown that microplastics may contribute to lung cancer risk.
Microplastics have also been found in rivers and oceans around the world. Earlier research has found that they flow over long distances and into our oceans, hurting ecosystems along the way. They start in our wastewater, then flow into rivers and out to the sea, where they are eaten by sea animals. If people then eat these animals, it means that we’re eating the plastic as well.
66. We can learn from Paragraph 1 that __________.
A. the Arctic is the last really clean place left on earth
B. the Arctic is an icy land of pure white snow
C. the Arctic is a beautiful icy land with clean air
D. the Arctic has been polluted by plastic rubbish
67. The underlined word “contribute” in paragraph 4 probably means __________.
B. join with others in giving
A. make larger or more
D. help something happen
C. provide a good place for an action
68. How are most of the microplastics arriving in the Arctic?
A. By river. B. By air. C. By snow. D. By dust.
69. Which of the following isn’t true?
A. We may breathe microplastics in Arctic.
B. Microplastics may cause lung cancer.
C. We don’t have to mind microplastics right now.
D. Microplastics have hurt ecosystems.
70. How does the writer end this passage?
A. By telling the seriousness of plastic pollution.
B. By asking people not to eat sea animals.
C. By advising us to drink clean water.
D. By showing the beauty of Arctic.

W: Hi, John! I’d like to invite you to dinner this evening.
M: To dinner? What for?
W: I have passed my driving test!
M: Congratulations! I’m really glad to hear that.
W: Thank you! I have been preparing for it for half a year, you know. And I made it at last.
M: So, where shall we have our dinner?
W: How about the Friendship Restaurant? I like the food and service there.
M: I agree. I’ll take you there in my car.
W: Fine. Let’s go at half past six.

M: I’d like to buy a flight ticket for this afternoon.
W: All right. To Washington or to New York?
M: To New York, please.
W: I’m sorry the tickets to New York for this afternoon have been sold out. But we still have some left for this evening.
M: For this evening? I’m not used to traveling in the evening.
W: Why? An evening flight will cost much less.
M: I think it’s more dangerous to travel at night.
W: So what about a flight tomorrow morning? It takes off at 6:00. And it arrives at New York one and a half hours later.
M: All right. I’ll take this one. How much is it?
W: Four hundred and eighty dollars.
M: Here’s the money! Thank you!

M: Mrs. Williams, have you been swimming long?
W: No, not long at all. I started swimming to get in shape again after my youngest child was born 5 years ago. I only started exercising properly when I realized how much I was enjoying it.
M: So when did you start to take it seriously?
W: I suppose it was 2 years ago. I joined the swimming club then.
M: How often do you practice?
W: Every day in summer and autumn; every other day in spring and winter. But I can’t go regularly as I have to look after my 4 children.
M: What does your husband think of it?
W: He thinks it wonderful. He is proud of me for being on the national team and winning prizes.
M: How many prizes have you won?
W: 3 so far, all in last year. 2 were individual medals and 1 was team cup.
M: I hope there will be more today. Thanks.

Texas is a large state in the USA, and Texans often show off how big everything is there.
One day, a rich Texan farmer travelling in Europe stopped at a house along the road. Because the weather was hot and he had been driving for many hours, he needed something to drink.
“I am sorry to trouble you.” he said to the man who answered the door, “Would it be possible for you to let me have a glass of water?”
The man looked at the visitor up and down, as if to decide whether he could trust him. He finally said, “Of course.”
He gave the Texan a glass of cold water. After drinking it, the Texan asked him, “Are you a farmer?”
“Yes.” the man said, “I keep some chickens.”
“I am also a farmer.” the Texan said, “How big is your farm?”
“It’s about a hundred meters by a hundred meters.” the man said proudly, “What about your farm? How big is it?”
“Well,” the Texan said, “After I’ve had my breakfast, I get in my car and I drive and drive and drive. I keep on driving all day, and I don’t reach the other side of my farm until dinner time.”
The man looked at the Texan sympathetically. “Oh, I know how you feel.” he said, “I once had a car like that.”
