But I do have a few memories of our stay there. Grandfather had some tomatoes growing on the north side of his house, just outside the back door to the kitchen. I found a nice green tomato. I picked it and brought it with both hands and came into the kitchen and gave it to Grandpa. “Look, Grandpa, what I found!” He thanked me with a smile, and showed me he was putting it on the window sill(窗臺(tái)). I was so happy, and I headed back outside, telling Grandfather I’d bring him some more. But my mom caught me and said, “No, no, no, green tomatoes are bad for health!” Grandmother sat in her wheelchair in the living room by the front door. We played games with her. Soon, our visit ended and we had to go home. We left Grandmother to go back to the train station. It was several hours’ drive away. We all squeezed into Grandfather’s car. A few years later, our family was living in Colorado. Grandfather came to visit us! He came by plane to Denver, and after a long drive, my father picked him up. During the weeks Grandfather stayed with us like most children, I’d go out and play in the back yard with him every day. I’m sure it was a precious time for Grandfather and my parents, too. I remember that when he was leaving in the airplane, we could see him in the airplane window, looking grieved. I never saw Grandfather again from then on, because we moved even further away. But we didn’t forget him. 24. How did the grandfather react when the author showed him the green tomatoes? A. He was angry. B. He looked strange. C. He praised his grandson. D. The memory of my grandfather C Perhaps thousands of people have searched for a bronze chest full of gold and jewels hidden in the Rocky Mountains between Santa Fe and the Canadian border hidden by a millionaire adventurer. At least four people died in their search for the treasure. But it's all over now. Fenn's Treasure has been found. The 89-year-old adventurer named Forrest Fenn, who created the treasure hunt, announced the news via his website. "I don't know the person who found it, but the poem in my book led him to the precise spot." Fenn wrote. "The treasure was confirmed by a photograph the lucky finder sent me." Forrest Fenn, the man who started the hunt lives in Santa Fe. He was a pilot in the Vietnam War and later accumulated his wealth as a dealer in art and antiques. Fenn was diagnosed(診斷)with cancer in 1988 and had planned to die peacefully in the woods with his treasure. But when his cancer became less serious, he changed his plan, eventually writing the poem that described his dream resting place, which is where he hid the treasure. The poem appeared in a memoir called The Thrill of the Chase. Fenn said that the chest wouldn't be found by accident; only a treasure hunter who correctly interpreted the clues(線索)would find it. Several treasure hunters went missing while attempting to find the chest, including hunter Jeff Murphy and Mike Petersen, both of whom went missing in Yellowstone National Park in 2017. Fenn said that he had never been to the Yellowstone National Park, and that the treasure was not in a dangerous place. "It was in the thick forest of the Rocky Mountains and had not been moved from the spot where I hid it more than 10 years ago," Fenn wrote on his website. It is illegal to remove anything from a national park, which would cause trouble in legally claiming the treasure if it was found there. 28. What contributed to the finding of the treasure? A. Fenn's announcement. B. A poem in Fenn's book. C. Fenn's vivid description. D. A photo on Fenn's website. 29. What is the third paragraph mainly about? A. Who Forrest Fenn was. B. Where Fenn hid the treasure. C. How the treasure hunt began. D. What Fenn did to find the treasure. 30. What can we learn about "Fenn's Treasure"? A. It was in Yellowstone National Park. B. It was found by someone by chance. C. It was moved from one place to another. D. It was in Fenn's chosen resting place. 31. What does the underlined word "claiming" in the last paragraph probably mean? A. Taking. B. Burying. C. Protecting. D. Acknowledging. D People have long dreamt of a car that flies through the sky. Japan’s SkyDrive has carried out a successful, but modest test flight of such a vehicle carrying a person. It is just one of the many “flying car” projects around the world. In a video shown to reporters, a vehicle that looked like a motorcycle lifted up to two meters off the ground. It flew in circles in a protected area for four minutes. Tomohiro Fukuzawa heading the SkyDrive effort said he hopes the flying car can be made into a real-life product by 2023. However, he noted the importance of safety. “Of the world’s more than 100 flying car projects, only a handful has succeeded with a person on board. I hope many people want to ride it and feel safe.” The machine so far can fly for just 5 to 10 minutes, but if the flight time can be extended to 30 minutes, the car will hive more possibilities. Unlike airplanes and helicopters, “electric vertical(垂直的) takeoff and landing” vehicles, or eVTOL, generally offer quick point-to-point personal travel. They could do away with having to deal with airports, traffic jams. Such vehicles could fly without a pilot. SkyDrive’s Hying car began as a volunteer project in 2012. The project received financial Support from top Japanese companies including carmaker Toyota, electronics company Panasonic. A demonstration flight three years ago did not go well. But the flying car has improved, and the project recently received additional support of $37 million, including money from the Development Bank of Japan. The Japanese government has expressed support for the futuristic project, with a “road map” for business services by 2023. The goal is to expand the flying car's commercial use by the 2030s. It also has noted possible uses for connecting faraway areas and providing transportation in disasters. 32. What can we learn about the flying car according to the text? A. It’s a kind of motorcycle. B. It has been put into use. C. Its safety factor is high. D. Its flight time is limited. 33. Compared with airplanes, the flying car of Japan’s SkyDrive ______. A. needs to land at the airport B. will get stuck in traffic jams easily C. can fly as high as you like D. may travel automatically 34. Why is the Japanese government in favor of the project? A. To increase people’s yearly income. B. To case the traffic pressure nationwide. C. To make flying cars more used in business. D. To improve the transportation in remote regions. 35. What can be a suitable title for the text? A. History of eVTOL Systems B. Japan’s SkyDrive Flying Car C. A Volunteer Project D. According to mental health experts, it is actually very possible to turn into a glass-half-full kind of person, and here’s what you can do to see things in a brighter light. 36 Writing down your ideas of an optimistic tomorrow will make a huge difference when it comes to your overall attitude to life. You may also want to consider a serious challenge you have in life right now, and simply sit back and think about all of the possible positive outcomes. Choose to be optimistic. Life is all about choices. You can choose to spend the entire day reading or cleaning. You can make the call you’ve been thinking about for a while or you can put it off for another day. What’s more, you can also choose to be positive or you can choose to simply carry on living as you are. 37 And then carry on that way for the rest of your life. Extend positiveness to others. Making others feel good about themselves can have lasting positive effects on your own life. Never forget to admire your family, friends, and colleagues for the good things which they are doing in their lives, even if they don’t directly affect you. __38___ Recognize your negative thought patterns. It’s fine to acknowledge that bad things in life might happen at any time. 39 Yet being overly negative can seriously ruin your chances of finding happiness in this life. Reframing your awkwardly negative thoughts into more realistic patterns may be the key to helping you maintain optimism. Practice gratitude. Spend some time thinking about all of the things you have to be thankful for. 40 You could even choose to keep diaries, where you can put down anything which makes you smile. If nothing else, take a moment every once in a while to stop, smile and be thankful for the positive things in life. A. Imagine a positive future. B. Form the habit of keeping diaries. C. Of course, it’s also necessary to praise yourself. D. Ignoring reality isn’t the most helpful method either. E. Being optimistic starts with the decision to be positive. F. It will often provide you with an instant optimism boost. G. Take a moment to work out how realistic your thoughts really are. Don’t you love it when you have a bit of free time? She was born in August and her name is Aida. Shortly after having Aida, my mother-in-law Ann showed me something she learned from her friend’s mother in an art class she attended weekly. She had showed me how to knit (編織) a scarf. She showed me stitches (針) and gave me her half done project. I spent a lot of time breastfeeding my sweet little girl, so I had some extra time to do something with my hands throughout the day. I enjoyed making the scarf so I purchased tons of yarn (線) since it was winter. I wanted to make scarves for my three children as Christmas gifts. There was a new family that moved in down the street. The only daughter of the family was Jane, a shy girl, aged 14, the same age of my oldest son David. It seemed that she came from a financially disadvantaged family, for she always wore old clothes. Worse sill, in such cold days, she had no more clothes to wear and trembled with cold. Due to the pandemic, society was thrown into crisis mode. Schools were closed, food supplies and deliveries were suspended and children were stuck at home. In such discouraging times, however, they became good companions, talking and playing at home or around the houses. It was dreadfully cold this winter. Every time David came back from outside, with red face, he always cried, “Mum, it is freezing outside!” Then, he came over to see whether I finished the scarf. I could tell how impatient he was to wear my scarf sooner! I had to speed the project to satisfy his expectation. But David comforted me saying he could wait a few days. What a kind and considerate boy he was ! Then my great art project finally was accomplished on the morning ahead of Christmas. I wrapped the scarf around David’s neck. ___________________________________________________________________________ Later that day David came back saying Jane also deserved a scarf. 56. various/varied 57.existence 58. has been living/has lived 59. financially 60. falling 61. an 62. were created 63. in 64. to appreciate 65. that The changes of my city Ladies and gentlemen, I’m honored to deliver a speech on the changes of my city. Initially, it’s obvious that there exist a wide variety of transportation means, making it convenient to travel around. More importantly, people have promoted their own qualities because the advanced technology provides us with more access to education. Besides, with the awareness of environmental protection being raised/strengthened, our living surroundings is becoming more and more beautiful, which adds a great deal to people’s happiness. As far as I I’m concerned, it’s the joint efforts of every citizen that have brought such wonderful changes to the city. Thank you for your attention. I wrapped the scarf around David’s neck. David’s face lit up with joy. Stroking the scarf softly, David excitedly kissed me in the cheek, beaming at me “Thank you, Mum. This is the best gift I have ever received.” Before I could say anything, he dashed out to join Jane with a spring in his step. I felt relieved and content as a mother, seeing David play happily outside, with the scarf sheltering him to brave the bone-chilling wind. Wearing a smile on my face, I continued my chores that morning. Later that day David came back saying Jane also deserved a scarf. Obviously, David noticed Jane could hardly bear the freezing weather with worn-out clothes. “Can I give this to Jane as a Christmas gift?” David ventured in a low voice. Smilingly, I nodded. Seeing David rush into Jane’s house with the scarf in his hand, felt burst of pride. I was happy that both of them received the best gift for Christmas. For Jane-a scarf to keep warm, and for David—a taste of happiness of giving. 沖出去:dashed out /rush out ②.忍受:bear/ endure 情緒類 ①.滿足:content/ satisfied ②.感到驕傲:feel burst of pride/be proud of 【點(diǎn)睛】 [高分句型1]. W:Well, thank you. I will be in touch. Text 10 M:Thank you very much. Thank you Dr.Johnson.Well,it is really great to be back at university again. The thing that I want to tell you today is this: education is important. When I came to the U.S.,I was only thinking about being a carpenter, but I could not read the newspaper and I could not understand the news on television or movies or anything like this, so I entered the city college to take English classes for foreign students.I was very proud that I was going to a college because no one in my family ever went to any college or to any university. You know, when you are 15 years old in my country, you finish school and then you learn a trade. And that’s exactly what I did. When I was 15 years old, I learned how to be a carpenter.A year later, I came to America. Luckily, I met a very good teacher who encouraged me to take some math classes, business classes and history classes and I became a full-time college student. And today when I look back, I’m so happy because you never know where life will take you.All of a sudden,I started making money, because I was really good at math. You know, how to work out everything with math is so important. This is something that I learned when I started my own business, which is doing really well.
