I was doing some last-minute shopping when I saw a nicely dressed little girl looking through the Barbie dolls with a roll of money in her little hand. When she came upon a Barbie she liked, she asked her father if she had enough money to buy it. He usually said “ yes”, but she would keep looking and going through their conversation of “ Do I have enough?”
Then a little boy in worn clothes wandered in the aisle (過道). He kept picking up the Pokemon video toys. Each time he picked one up and looked at his father, his father shook his head, “ No.” Rather dejectedly, the boy had to give up on the video games.
The little girl put her Barbie back on the shelf, and ran over to the Pokemon games. She excitedly picked up one and raced toward the check-out, after speaking with her father. I picked up my purchases and got in line behind them.
After the toy was paid for and bagged, the little girl handed it back to the cashier and whispered something in her ear. The cashier smiled and put the package under the counter. I paid for my purchases and was rearranging things in my purse when the little boy came up to the cashier. The cashier said, “ Congratulations, you are my hundredth customer today, and you win a prize!” With that, she handed the little boy the Pokemon game, and he could only stare in disbelief. It was exactly what he had wanted!
The little girl and her father had been standing at the doorway during all of this, and I saw the biggest, prettiest, toothless smile on that little girl. As I walked back to my car in amazement over what I had just witnessed, I heard the father ask his daughter why she had done that.
“ Daddy, didn’t Nana and Pawpaw want me to buy something that would make me happy?”
“ Of course they did, honey.”
“ Well, I just did!”
With that, she giggled and started skipping toward their car. Apparently, she had decided on the answer to her own question of “ Do I have enough?”

It’s been nearly two decades since the traditional clothing style Hanfu first started to re-emerge in China. Since then it has gone from a small cultural movement celebrating an ancient fashion to a trend that is booming on social media, having been adopted by China’ s Generation Z as a means of connecting with their past. Instead of following other cultures blindly, Generation Z now have different opinions about what trend is by promoting local culture while having an objective view of exotic cultural products.
The new tastes of Generation Z — young people born after 1995 — are well represented on Bilibili. In the recent New Year’s Eve gala presented by Bilibili, it attracted more than 100 million views within 48 hours with a colorful set of programs ranging from Peking Opera to classical Chinese cartoon. The same is also true of movie industry. Last year, for the first time, the top 10 most viewed films in China were all domestic films, while the ticket sales for imported films have dropped to only 16.28 percent.
“Generation Z grew up with the rapid development of China and under good economic conditions. With the development of the Chinese Internet industry, they have more access to diverse international information and culture, which bring them a much broader vision and makes them more open and confident in analyzing foreign culture. Apart from taking pride in China’ s rapid development, this generation also pursues individuality and values devotion to the country.”
Professor Zhang Yiwu said. He also noted that the popular rock and punk culture pursued by the 70s and 80s generation is more of a challenge against real life and local culture. Some people who were born in the 1970s and 1980s did not grow up in the Internet age — they experienced the transformation of China going from poor to rich first-hand. This kind of longing and admiration of the West came from a lack of confidence.
However, the Generation Z now have the confidence to look at Western culture with equal status. This kind of cultural confidence will result in China being more active and creative in its development on the international stage in the future.
28. What does the underlined word “exotic” in paragraph 1 mean?
A. traditional B. fashionable C. dominant D. foreign
29. Why is Bilibili mentioned in paragraph 2?
A. To highlight the popularity of domestic art.
B. To be compared with the movie industry.
C. To promote Chinese Internet industry.
D. To confirm the rise of new media.
30.What do we know about Generation Z from the text?
A. They are longing for cultural diversity. B. They have a stronger cultural identity.
C. They have less sense of individuality. D. They have made China develop rapidly.
31. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Confident China, Better Future
B. China’s Progress Results in Cultural Confidence
C. China’s New Generation Redefine Local Culture as Trendy
D. Hanfu Style, Connector of Ancient Fashion and Modern Trend
D
Light pollution is a significant but overlooked driver of the rapid decline of insect populations, according to the most comprehensive review of the scientific evidence to date.
Artificial light at night can affect every aspect of insects’ lives, the researchers said. “We strongly believe artificial light at night—in combination with habitat loss, chemical pollution, invasive(入侵的)species, and climate change—is driving insect declines,” the scientists concluded after assessing more than 150 studies.
Insect population collapses have been reported around the world, and the first global scientific review published in February, said widespread declines threatened to cause a “catastrophic collapse of nature’s ecosystems”.
There are thought to be millions of insect species, most still unknown to science, and about half are active at night. Those active in the day may also be disturbed by light at night when they are at rest.
The most familiar impact of light pollution is moths (飛蛾)flapping around a bulb, mistaking it for the moon. Some insects use the polarisation of light to find the water they need to breed, as light waves line up after reflecting from a smooth surface. But artificial light can scupper(使泡湯)this. Insects are important prey(獵物)for many species, but light pollution can tip the balance in favour of the predator if it traps insects around lights. Such increases in predation risk were likely to cause the rapid extinction of affected species, the researchers said.
The researchers said most human-caused threats to insects have analogues in nature, such as climate change and invasive species. But light pollution is particularly hard for insects to deal with.
However, unlike other drivers of decline, light pollution is relatively easy to prevent. Simply turning off lights that are not needed is the most obvious action, he said, while making lights motion-activated also cuts light pollution. Shading lights to make the area lit up only is important. It is the same with avoiding blue-white lights, which interfere with daily rhythms. LED lights also offer hope as they can be easily tuned to avoid harmful colours and flicker rates.
32.What is discussed in the passage?
A. Causes of declining insect populations.
B. Consequences of insect population collapses.
C. Insect declines: the driver of the collapsed ecosystem.
D. Light pollution: the key bringer of insect declines.
33. What is the 5th paragraph mainly about?
A. How light travels in space. B. How light helps insects find food.
C. How light pollution affects insects. D. How the food chain is interrelated.
34.What does the underlined word “analogues” in Paragraph 6probably mean?
A. Variations. B. Limitations.
C. Selective things. D. Similar things
35.What is the purpose of the last paragraph?
A. To give examples. B. To offer solutions.
C. To make comparisons. D. To present arguments.

Playing with eggs can help children stay away from summer fever.
38 , which was very popular in the old days. People use red, yellow, black, green beans and peas, together with sticky rice to make a bowl of five-color rice. This color-rich rice will bring people good harvests in the summer.
Weighing people is a traditional custom which dates from the Three Kingdoms Period. 39 . If the child was heavier than the previous year, it meant the child was becoming healthier and parents wouldn’t have any worries for the hot summer.
After Lixia, the temperature is gradually rising and hot weather can be a strain on your heart. As a result, people may easily feel tired during summer days. Having good rests becomes very important. Do not take up violent sports but do some slow activities. 40 . Besides, eating more fruits and vegetables and less hot and dry food can help tonify (滋補) your liver and kidneys.
A. Another traditional food is Lixia rice
B. The heart pumps blood round the body
C. People used to weigh their children on this day
D. It is said that the shape of an egg looks like a heart
E. People like to weigh themselves at least once a week

The campus activity that benefits me most
It is well known that my school has held a large number of activities in the past three years, which benefits us students a lot.
From my perspective, the most beneficial one is “Long distance Running for Love” organized by the Students Union when I was a freshman. And the money collected by this activity is contributed to the Project Hope. It is really my honor to participate in the long running, because it benefits me greatly not only in body but also in mind.
In conclusion, although I have taken part in many campus activities, I believe the long running for love is the most beneficial one to me. And I sincerely hope that more wonderful and meaningful activities will be held in our campus.
