I knew that the letter was a scam, but the ld man was as stubbrn as a mule. He even slept with that stupid letter in his hand. He memrized it wrd fr wrd. I didn’t think he culd memrize anything anymre. He wuldn’t stay at hme either, but ventured ut nt the highway again and again, until the plice sent him back. In the end, I had t give up. I called in sick at wrk and the tw f us set ut in my car t claim his prize.

Je and I had been eagerly lking frward t ur retirement when a heart attack that past spring frced him t leave his jb earlier than we had planned. As the medical bills munted, we realized I wuld have t cntinue wrking full-time while Je stayed hme and tk ver the husewrk.
The new arrangement was a disaster. Exhausted after a day f full wrk, all I wanted was a ht hme cked meal and a gd night's sleep. Hwever, what greeted me at the table was a micrwave package. Smetimes he wuld serve atmeal(燕麥)fr several nights in a rw. One night when I dragged myself t bed, I was terrified t discver Je had turned ur white sheets blue. He tld me he had fund ut hw t save n water, sap and electricity. He patted his blue trusers and annunced prudly washing everything tgether was just the secret.
Ten minutes later, ignring Jes warning I turned ff the main rute (道路).I thught it hadn’t trained enugh t fld the rad, but as I runded the crner water rushed acrss my path. After a few feet, the car gt stuck. I pened the dr and water pured in. I hurriedly clsed the dr. I culdn’t risk walking in this almst 20 minutes passed. The car began t shake.
