The man called Alvarenga survived fourteen months in a small boat moving about without any destination from Mexico across the Pacific Ocean. On November 17, 2012, a pair of fishermen left the coast of Mexico for a weekend fishing trip in the open Pacific. That night, a violent storm attacked them. Facing strong winds and huge waves, captain Salvador Alvarenga cut away a two-mile-long fishing line and began a desperate dash through waves as they sought a safe port anxiously.Fourteen months later, on January 30, 2014, Alvarenga, whose companion was dead, was washed to deserted island in the Pacific. With the help of the remote islanders, who first found him, his colleagues, search-and-rescue officials and the medical team, Alvarenga became safe. 438 Days is one of the most amazing stories of survival in modern times. It is an unforgettable story of the will and determination required for a man to survive more than a year lost at sea.
