Basketball was invented by a Canadian dctr named James Naismith, wh was brn in 1861. When he was at cllege, his class was nce asked t invented a new game that culd be played indrs during the lng winters. Dr Naismith created a game t be played n a hard wden flr, s the safety f the players was imprtant. Kncking int players and falling dwn wuld be dangerus.
