By the time she sat up, she fund her ft pinted the wrng way. She knew right away she had brken her leg. With sharp pain, Bannister struggled t shut fr help. Luckily, a stranger apprached befre lng and called 911. The respnse frm the ther end f the phne was rather discuraging - they were tld a prfessinal search and rescue team wuld arrive in five hurs.
The sad stry cntinued. Bannister asked this man if he had painkillers, because at that pint, the pain was pretty bitter. Anther negative reply came t her. Her heart was sinking deep.
At this mment, tw yung men apprached t see what was ging n. Try May, 20, an Air Frce air man statined at Jint Base Lewis-McChrd, had hiked up t the lkut that day with his friend Laytn Allen. When they saw Bannister n the grund in enrmus pain, they knew Bannister needed t be carried dwn withut any further delay. They made an immediate ffer: they culd carry the injured wman t the ft f the hill.
