After the disastrus bushfires swept thrugh Australia in 2020, 73,000 square miles burned, affecting abut 3 billin animals. Once the smke cleared, WWF-US teamed up with clleagues frm WWF-Australia t start a wildlife mnitring prject called Eyes n Recvery. The idea was t set up a netwrk f cameras that wuld serve as ur eyes in the bush. My c-wrkers and I were determined t measure hw Australia’s endangered wildlife was recvering.
In 2023, I traveled t Blue Muntains Natinal Park in Eastern Australia. Fr a week, I, tgether with my c-wrkers, wrapped ur arms arund the trees t secure cameras arund their trunks. WWF and 20 ther rganizatins set up ver 1,000 cameras acrss the land. What wuld we get thrugh the cameras?
T date, ur effrts have gt ver 7 millin phts, ne f which shws a kala climbing int a new tree. But if I tk just tw secnds t review each f thse 7 millin images during my nrmal wrk week, I’d finish reviewing them in arund fur years.
We didn’t have that kind f time in cnservatin. S WWF wrked with ther cnservatin rganizatins t develp a better way t manage camera trap data called Wildlife Insights, an nline platfrm that can separate ut all thse blank images, find the nes that cntain wildlife, and identify which species is in a pht. We upladed ur 7 millin phts t Wildlife Insights, and srted in weeks. Over 150 different species were detected.
With the help f tls like Wildlife Insights, infrmatin was getting int the hands f decisin-makers mre quickly, which was imprtant fr species like the endangered kala. A third f their habitat burned in the fires, including their tree hllws. As an emergency measure, WWF-Australia and its partners quickly installed (安裝) artificial trees and mnitred them using cameras. After analyzing the phts, we were amazed t find kalas were using every single ne f the trees.
With the ever-munting challenges facing bidiversity, it’s essential that we shuld cntinue innvating thrugh technlgy s that we can get actinable data and make faster cnservatin decisins.
24. What did the authr and his c-wrkers d in Blue Muntains Natinal Park?
A. They set up a netwrk f cameras.B. They recrded endangered wildlife.
C. They tk many phts f animals.D. They cllected data n varius trees.

A. The increasing dependence n camera traps.
B. The grwing number f endangered animals.
C. The time needed t deal with camera trap data.
D. The difficulty f cllecting data n bidiversity.
26. Why were artificial trees installed?
A. T advertise Wildlife Insights.B. T use cameras efficiently.
C. T mark animals’ living cnditins.D. T prvide hmes fr kalas.
27. What des the authr try t d in the last paragraph?
A. Issue a warning.B. Make a suggestin.
C. Cnfirm a cnclusin.D. Present a new finding.

Mastering the science and art f perfrming surgery takes years f study and practice fr a human. Rbts, as it turns ut, can learn t d surgical tasks much faster. A new study presented at the 8th Annual Cnference n Rbt Learning in Germany intrduced the wrld t a medical rbt that emplys artificial intelligence (AI) t learn t perfrm surgical tasks as well as a human.
The research team frm Jhns Hpkins and Stanfrd University used a da Vinci Surgical System in the study, which is designed t perfrm surgical tasks while being remtely cntrlled by a human surgen. The rbt allws the surgen t wrk with greater cntrl and precisin. Using a type f AI training called imitatin learning, in which an AI learns a new task by bserving and cping human actins, the da Vinci rbt was able t learn the very cmplex set f actins needed t carry ut a surgical task.
Presenting the rbt with a dataset that it hadn’t trained n, the researchers fund that it was able t perfrm the virtual simulatin(模擬)successfully. This meant that the rbt was capable f generalizing, rather than just memrizing, and wuld be able t manage the unexpected situatins that tend t ccur in a real-life perating rm.
“It’s magical t have this mdel where all we d is feed it camera input, and it can predict the rbtic mvements needed fr surgery,” said Dr. Axel Krieger, assistant prfessr in mechanical engineering at Jhns Hpkins and senir authr f the study. “We believe this marks a significant step frward in medical rbtics.”
Previusly, prgrammers had t g thrugh the painstaking task f hand-cding (手動編碼) a rbt t get it t perfrm the actin it was being tasked with. Nw, it can be trained t learn a new task in a matter f days. Thugh the idea f a rbt surgen may seem scary t sme peple, the truth is that sme surgens have been using rbts in the perating rm fr sme time nw, and it has nly imprved the medical field.
28. What can be learned abut the da Vinci rbt in paragraph 2?
A Its self-taught ability.B. Its design style.
C. Its high wrking speed.D. Its great strategy.
29. Why did the researchers present the rbt with an unfamiliar dataset?
A. T avid the unexpected.B. T test its perfrmance.
C. T cntrl the simulatin.D. T vercme its weaknesses.
30. What des Dr. Axel Krieger mst prbably describe the da Vinci rbt as?
A. A lst art.B. A desperate attempt.
C. A misguided trend.D. A majr breakthrugh.
31. What des the authr imply in the last paragraph?
A. Applicatins in the medical field need updating.
B. A human surgen shuld rely n medical rbts.
C. The days f autmated surgery may arrive sme day.
D. Autmated systems make medical care available wrldwide.

Befre jining Washingtn D. C.-based District Running Cllective, Falln Jnes wasn’t a runner. “We were ding CrssFit then—there’s this grup f peple wh run up the street,” says Jnes. She was attracted after her first run with the grup the fllwing week. “I was in the slwer pace grup, but everybdy was there at the end t cheer me n,” she adds.
The first knwn running club, the Thames Hare and Hunds, was established in 1868 in Lndn, prmting the sprt as a scial activity. Over the decades, running clubs have spread acrss Eurpe and Nrth America, initially attracting cmpetitive runners but gradually appealing t a brader audience seeking supprt, mtivatin and friendship. In recent years, nline platfrms have allwed runners t cnnect, making running mre accessible and inclusive.
Nwadays, cnversatinal running is becming a trend. Cnversatinal running, which refers t maintaining a pace at which yu can cmfrtably speak as yu mve, is ften assciated with Zne 2 training, which invlves an intensity f 60—70 percent f yur maximum heart rate. Kristen Hislp, a certified running cach, says peple ften struggle t achieve this pace thugh it desn’t feel like an “arduus” wrkut; it’s ften much slwer than yu’d anticipate. “But while it isn’t especially challenging, ding lw-intensity exercise regularly can build endurance (耐力) s yu’ll be able t g lnger and further,” says Hislp. “Yu’re als ging t recver faster and reduce yur risk f injuries.”
Cnversatinal running is als gd fr yur relatinships. “If yu’re near smebdy but nt necessarily facing them eye t eye, yu might be mre willing t express yurself r yu might just feel a little bit less shy,” says Rachel Gldberg, a licensed family therapist wh incrprates walk-and-talk sessins int her practice. This can lead t deeper cnversatins and strnger cnnectins.
Despite the benefits f running with thers, finding the right run club t fit yur needs is crucial. Jnes knew her club was the right fit after her first uting. “They did a really gd jb in explaining the different pace grups,” she says. “As smene wh’s appraching 40, it has been a blessing t find friends f all ages here at this stage in life.”

When my husband asked me what I wanted fr the cming festival, I replied, “The Famus Five series.” His first respnse was, “What’s that?” I had t explain. He knew there was lss and sadness assciated with mving s many times, and that I’d lst sme material things alng the way. What I hadn’t explained quite yet was my desire t cnnect with my past thrugh the bks I’d enjyed as a child.
During ur elementary schl years in Austria, I wuld frequent the British bkshp in Vienna. During thse visits, I acquired all twenty-ne bks in the Famus Five series by the British authr Enid Blytn. I enjyed reading abut the adventures f the “Five”, which included siblings(兄妹)Julian, Dick, and Anne as well as their cusin Gergina and her dg Timmy. The stries feature funny plts centering n catching bad peple—quite extrardinary, cnsidering the heres were mere teenagers! The bks were my passprts t adventures I’d never experienced in my wn life.
Unfrtunately my family had t mve t the United States quite abruptly due t a health emergency. My parents had t make difficult decisins abut what t bring t America. Since bks were heavy, my parents were unable t bring mst f my bks with them, including the Famus Five series. I was heartbrken!
Fast frward t seven years int my marriage, sme seventeen years after I’d left my treasured Famus Five series behind, I decided I wanted t acquire my bks fr a hliday. I’d been searching the Internet fr the series but gt disappinted, because n American bk publishers r websites had the bks. We culd have bught them n a freign website, but we were nervus abut using ur credit card that way.
The festival eventually arrived and my husband, daughter, and I sat arund the table. We traditinally pened ne present and each f us picked a gift. My daughter pened hers first, and then my husband. I eyed my chsen present, a clrfully wrapped bx, and guessed what it might be. “An elephant?” my daughter smiled. “Oh, let’s end the suspense!” I said and began tearing the wrapping.

根據(jù)第二段開頭提到“The first knwn running club, the Thames Hare and Hunds, was established in 1868 in Lndn, prmting the sprt as a scial activity.( 第一個已知的跑步俱樂部,泰晤士野兔與獵犬俱樂部,于1868年在倫敦成立,將這項運(yùn)動推廣為一種社交活動。)”接著又說“Over the decades, running clubs have spread acrss Eurpe and Nrth America, initially attracting cmpetitive runners but gradually appealing t a brader audience seeking supprt, mtivatin and friendship. In recent years, nline platfrms have allwed runners t cnnect, making running mre accessible and inclusive.( 在過去的幾十年里,跑步俱樂部在歐洲和北美傳播開來,最初吸引的是有競爭力的跑步者,但逐漸吸引了更廣泛的尋求支持、動力和友誼的人群。近年來,在線平臺讓跑步者能夠相互聯(lián)系,使跑步變得更容易參與和更具包容性。)”由此可知,第二段主要講述了跑步俱樂部的發(fā)展歷程。故選C項。
【33題詳解】
詞義猜測題。根據(jù)第三段中“Cnversatinal running, which refers t maintaining a pace at which yu can cmfrtably speak as yu mve, is ften assciated with Zne 2 training, which invlves an intensity f 60—70 percent f yur maximum heart rate. 【34題詳解】
細(xì)節(jié)理解題。根據(jù)第四段““If yu’re near smebdy but nt necessarily facing them eye t eye, yu might be mre willing t express yurself r yu might just feel a little bit less shy,” says Rachel Gldberg, a licensed family therapist wh incrprates walk-and-talk sessins int her practice. 【35題詳解】
推理判斷題。根據(jù)最后一段中“Jnes knew her club was the right fit after her first uting. “They did a really gd jb in explaining the different pace grups,” she says. “As smene wh’s appraching 40, it has been a blessing t find friends f all ages here at this stage in life.”(瓊斯在第一次出場后就知道她的俱樂部很適合她?!八麄冊诮忉尣煌呐渌俜纸M方面做得非常好,”她說?!皩τ谝粋€快40歲的人來說,在人生的這個階段能找到各個年齡段的朋友是一種福氣?!?”可知,瓊斯在第一次參加活動后就知道這個俱樂部很適合她,因為俱樂部在解釋不同的配速分組方面做得很好,而且在這里她能找到各個年齡段的朋友。所以最吸引瓊斯的是俱樂部分組的能力。故選A項。

根據(jù)空格前的問句“S why are we drawn t setting gals cllectively and arund the same time every year?(那么,為什么我們要在每年的同一時間集體設(shè)定目標(biāo)呢?)” 所以,A項“One explanatin is that humans are naturally scial beings.(一種解釋是,人類天生就是社會動物)”符合語境,且A項與下文的內(nèi)容是順接關(guān)系。故選A項。
根據(jù)該段的主題句“There are advantages f this type f gal-setting.(這種設(shè)定目標(biāo)的方式是有好處的)”和下文的內(nèi)容“Research shws that cuples wh g n a diet tgether are mre likely t lse weight than thse wh d s alne. Mrever, making changes at the same time as thers als means yu have thers t share yur success with.(研究表明,一起節(jié)食的情侶比單獨節(jié)食的情侶更容易減肥。此外,與他人同時做出改變也意味著你有其他人可以分享你的成功)”可知,空格處的句子應(yīng)該具體說明“集體設(shè)定目標(biāo)的好處”,所以,E項“They include external mtivatin and the chances t learn frm thers.(它們包括外部動機(jī)和向他人學(xué)習(xí)的機(jī)會)”符合語境。
根據(jù)下文的內(nèi)容“Fr instance, when yu’ re relying n partners t keep yu mtivated and they decide t stp ging t the gym, yu might want t stay hme as well. It’s als cmmn fr cllective gal setters t cmpare their results with thers and becme discuraged if ne persn is succeeding where they aren’t.(例如,當(dāng)你依靠同伴來激勵你,而他們決定不再去健身房時,你可能也想呆在家里。對于集體目標(biāo)設(shè)定者來說,將他們的結(jié)果與其他人進(jìn)行比較也是很常見的,如果一個人成功了,而他們沒有成功,他們就會感到沮喪)”可知,該部分主要講述的是“集體設(shè)定目標(biāo)的弊端”。所以D項“Hwever, there are als dwnsides abut the gal-setting at times.(然而,設(shè)定目標(biāo)有時也有缺點)”符合語境,且與上文是轉(zhuǎn)折關(guān)系。故選D項。
根據(jù)空格前的句子“Regardless f what starts yur mtivatin, Bartlett says it’s critical t take actin as sn as yu feel the desire. Yu may nly have a shrt windw f pprtunity t make decisins abut what yu want t d befre smething gets in the way.(巴特利特說,不管你的動機(jī)是什么,只要你有這種欲望,就立即采取行動是至關(guān)重要的。在某些事情阻礙你之前,你可能只有很短的時間來決定你想做什么)”可知,空格處的句子應(yīng)該是鼓勵人們在渴望的時候去實施計劃。所以B項“S mments f desire are the ideal time t put a plan in place.(所以渴望的時刻是實施計劃的理想時機(jī))”符合語境。故選B項。
根據(jù)空格前的句子“A strategy fr successful gal-setting is breaking dwn bigger gals int smaller, mre specific nes. S instead f saying “I’m ging t lse 10 punds a mnth”, set a gal t limit yur daily calrie intake and g t the gym fr 30 minutes a day.(成功設(shè)定目標(biāo)的策略是將大目標(biāo)分解成更小、更具體的目標(biāo)。

根據(jù)“in 1171”可知,句子時態(tài)為一般過去時,“A print editin f the Shiji (Recrds f the Grand Histrian)”與“publish”之間是被動關(guān)系,即“《史記》的印刷版被出版”,所以用一般過去時的被動語態(tài),其結(jié)構(gòu)為“was/were + 過去分詞”,主語是單數(shù)。故填was published。
分析句子可知,設(shè)空處引導(dǎo)非限制性定語從句,先行詞“A precius Nrthern Sng perid (960–1127) editin f the Huhanshu (Bk f Later Han)”,指物,在從句中作主語成分,所以為關(guān)系代詞which引導(dǎo)。故填which。
分析句子結(jié)構(gòu),“____10____ are in great demand fr academics”是主語從句,從句中缺少主語,指物,所以用連接代詞 “What”引導(dǎo)主語從句。故填What。
