It was the first f sme 1,000 kilmeters f rail line t have re-pened under a prject called "Timeless tracks", which aims t take visitrs t frgtten parts f Italy instead f the ppular cities. The tracks have lived thrugh different eras. They were mistakenly cnsidered unprductive during the 1960s and 1970s but are nw nce again f value.
Nrma Pagitti, a 28-year-ld traveler frm Flrence, said, "Peple are used t cities and places, like Flrence, that everyne knws. But then there are ther areas that need t be discvered. This is the right kind f turism that des nt destry the reality f places."
Caterina Quaranta, frm suthern Italy, used the term “nstalgic” t describe riding the train. “The train reminds me f my yuth and the things f the past, which were simpler. But nw everything is fast, shrt-lived,” Quaranta said.
After climbing up almst 1,000 meters in altitude, the train’s first stp is in Palena, a hill-tp twn knwn fr its beautiful views ver the natinal park. Traditinal flk music accmpanies peple getting ff the train, with lcal fds such as lamb skewers and sft pancakes and prducts by lcal artisans awaiting them at the statin.

Frm its surce in Burgundy, the Seine flws 483 miles t reach the sea, with the capital sitting nearly in the middle. The River’s Parisian map has changed ver time, its curse changed by flds. The city’s Latin mtt, "Fluctuat nec mergitur — swayed by the waves but des nt sink," recalls these histrical flds, and Paris’s struggle in dealing with them.
Bathed in myth and memry, the Seine is the lifebld f the city that started n its banks. Alng this "main street", as Naplen called it, Parisian landmarks are n prud display, lking magnificent and great. It’s s central t the city’s existence that building numbers are linked t the river: Thse n vertical (垂直的) streets begin their numbering clsest t the Seine, while n parallel streets building numbers rise in the directin f the waterflw.
"Fr Parisians, there is a strng histrical and visceral (發(fā)自肺腑的) attachment t the river," says Pierre Rabadan, the deputy mayr f Paris. Fr centuries, life was lived n the river. The Seine’s banks were a gathering place fr wrk and leisure: Laundresses washed clthes, dckers unladed carg, merchants hawked their gds, and peple sunbathed and swam.
But a different apprach t urban planning in the 20th century began t separate the ppulace (民眾) frm the river. In the 1960s, highways were cnstructed directly n the water’s edge. The prts even changed int parking lts.
The tide turned in 2013 when the city gvernment decided t pedestrianize the mtrway n the Left Bank. Cyclists and walkers returned t the prts, enjying new installatins such as climbing walls and flating gardens. A riverside park n the Right Bank’s mtrway fllwed in 2016.
"We are nw trying t recnnect and recver the Seine, what’s histrically been a water eclgical passageway in a city that’s extremely crwded." says Rabadan. "We want t bring life back t the Seine."

10. What did the gvernment d with the River Seine in the 20th century?
A.Reducing Parisians’ attachment t the river.
B.Frbidding lcals t wrk and relax n the banks.
C.Establishing public transprt facilities alng the river.
D.Pedestrianizing the mtrway n the banks f the river.
11. What des Rabadan think f the ideal River Seine?
A.A place where peple can d sprts.

Take a walk dwn any majr beach and it likely wn’t be lng befre yu see sme abandned rubbish which eventually makes their way int the cean where it degrades ver decades r even centuries. Fr the mst part, sptting all that garbage still requires eyes and a fair deal f walking. But that culd ne day change thanks t a new satellite imaging technique.
A team develped a new tl that highlights unique spectral characters in plastics, which culd accurately identify plastic items n beaches and tell them frm sand, water, and plants.
Satellite imagery has, fr years, been used t help scientists identify plastics flating in the cean. This prcess wrks relatively well fr identifying large pieces f plastic in the water, but it’s far less effective at sptting plastics n beaches. Castal plastics ften mix in r is partially buried by sand which makes sptting it much mre difficult.
The team created a new spectral index, the Beached Plastic Debris Index (BPDI), which lks fr patterns f reflected light frm plastics. T test their new tl, the researchers cllected varius types f plastic trash that wuld likely be fund n a beach. They finally settled n 14 different plastic targets and placed them 3.7 meters apart frm each ther n a beach in Victria, Australia.
Once the plastics were in place, the satellite flew far verhead and tk a series f phts. Researchers applied their index t the images and cmpared them t three ther already-develped indices intended fr detecting plastics, tw fr plastics n land and ne fr bjects flating in the cean. The BPDI index well utperfrmed the ther three indices in terms f accuracy. The ther three generally struggled t identify plastics and, in sme cases, wuld even misidentify shadws as trash. Still, the BPDI index wasn’t perfect. In particular, the study ntes it was difficult t identify transparent and translucent plymers like plastic water bttles and bags.
Lking t the future, the researchers want t mve these findings ut f limited test envirnments and int the real wrld. That culd mean partnering with ther rganizatins specializing in castal plastic remval t use their satellite imagery technique.
12. Hw d peple mstly find and remve garbage n beaches?
A.By the plastics spectrum.
B.Thrugh satellite images.
C.By means f human labr.
D.Thrugh natural degradatin.
13. Why is it harder fr satellite imagery t identify plastics n beaches?
A.Because they are shaped in large pieces.
B.Because they are mixed with ther bjects.
C.Because they have all becme transparent.
D.Because they have unique spectral characters.
14. What is the disadvantage f the BPDI?
A.It ften misidentifies shadws as plastic garbage.
B.It is intended fr nly detecting the plastics n land.
C.It nly wrks n the light reflected ff 14 types f plastics.
D.It can nly be used t detect the nn-transparent plastics.
15. What can be the best title fr the text?
A.The Beached Plastic Debris Index
B.A New Technique fr Identifying Plastics n Beaches
C.A New Tl t Identify New Light Spectrum

This prgram is designed fr free access fr families wh wuld benefit frm a quieter, sensry - friendly and disability - adapted experience at the museum."
10:30 am Character Meet - and - Greet with Penelpe the Dinsaur (ASL)",括號內的"ASL"代表有美國手語翻譯,對于聽力受損的游客來說,有手語翻譯的活動會更友好,所以選D。
4D experiences still include imprved effects, including scents, bursts f air, rumbling seats, leg ticklers, bubbles and snw, lighting effects, and squirts f water."
The Park Railway, traveling thrugh valleys and tunnels and ver ld bridges, ffers visitrs a view f small, rural and hidden villages in the cuntry."
第二段中" a prject called ‘Timeless tracks’, which aims t take visitrs t frgtten parts f Italy instead f the ppular cities."
第四段中"‘The train reminds me f my yuth and the things f the past, which were simpler. But nw everything is fast, shrt - lived,’Quaranta said.",Caterina Quaranta說火車讓她想起了自己的青春和過去簡單的事物,由此可推斷"nstalgic"意思是"懷念過去",所以選B。
7.答案: A
最后一段中"‘The train financially helps several small twns arund here.’said Gin Tppi, 60, as he helped his wife with the fd stand in the small statin.",Gin Tppi說火車在經(jīng)濟上幫助了周邊幾個小鎮(zhèn),所以選A。
8.答案: A
Bathed in myth and memry, the Seine is the lifebld f the city that started n its banks."
由第二段"while n parallel streets building numbers rise in the directin f the waterflw."
In the 1960s, highways were cnstructed directly n the water’s edge. The prts even changed int parking lts.",20世紀60年代在河邊修建高速公路,港口變成停車場,這一系列舉措屬于在河邊建立公共交通設施,C選項正確。
最后一段中"‘We are nw trying t recnnect and recver the Seine, what’s histrically been a water eclgical passageway in a city that’s extremely crwded.’says Rabadan. ‘We want t bring life back t the Seine.’",Rabadan提到要恢復塞納河作為水生態(tài)通道的功能,讓生活回歸塞納河,可推斷他認為理想的塞納河是一個人與自然和諧相處的地方,D選項正確。
Fr the mst part, sptting all that garbage still requires eyes and a fair deal f walking.",這表明目前大多數(shù)情況下,人們主要依靠人力,通過肉眼觀察并步行去尋找海灘上的垃圾,所以選C。
Castal plastics ften mix in r is partially buried by sand which makes sptting it much mre difficult.",說明海岸塑料垃圾常與沙子混合或部分被沙子掩埋,與其他物體混在一起,這使得衛(wèi)星圖像識別它們變得更加困難,所以選B。
In particular, the study ntes it was difficult t identify transparent and translucent plymers like plastic water bttles and bags.",說明BPDI的缺點是難以識別像塑料水瓶和袋子這類透明和半透明的聚合物,即它只能用于檢測非透明塑料,所以選D。
16.答案: A; D; B; E; G
Perfectinism is feeling like yu have t achieve r functin at 100% capacity."(完美主義是感覺自己必須以100%的能力去實現(xiàn)目標或發(fā)揮作用。) A選項"I can’t make any mistakes."(我不能犯任何錯誤。)
S any mistake, n matter hw minr, can leave yu feeling like smething’s majrly wrng with yu."(所以任何錯誤,無論多么微小,都會讓你覺得自己出了大問題。) Yu may be sensitive t criticism."(你可能對批評很敏感。)
Even thugh perfectinism can make yu want t d well in every task, the fear f failing can be s great that yu avid ding anything. Yu may wait fr the exact right time and place t d end up nt getting started."(盡管完美主義會讓你想在每項任務中都表現(xiàn)出色,但對失敗的恐懼可能非常強烈,以至于你什么都不做。
上文提到"Perfectinism can spiral (惡化) int exhaustin. If yu are feeling pressure t be perfect, yu might think that taking a break will help. But the lng - term stress f perfectinism desn’t quiet dwn just because it’s the weekend r yu went n vacatin."(完美主義會惡化為疲憊。 Instead, it can change int full - blwn burnut."(相反,它會演變成全面的倦怠。)
Especially, yur wrries, fears, r delay are getting in the way f being an effective partner r cmpassinate friend. One survey fund trying t be the perfect parent was linked with higher levels f stress and burnut and mre strain in parent - child relatinships."(特別是,你的擔憂、恐懼或拖延會妨礙你成為一個有效的伴侶或富有同情心的朋友。 Yur unrealistic expectatins fr yurself can extend t thers as well."(你對自己不切實際的期望也會延伸到他人身上。)
