Windws brighten a rm, and give us a view utside f it. They als let in a large amunt f heat frm the sun. In fact, abut 87% f heat gains in a given space cme thrugh its windws. This is because ultravilet (紫外線的) radiatin passes thrugh glass easily. T keep ut the heat, peple use windw cverings like curtains, but this als blcks the view.
A recent study indicates that sn peple wh lve a view — but hate the heat — will be able t have it bth ways. The study presents a new windw cating that culd let in sunlight and keep ut the heat.
Windw films and heat-blcking catings are nt a new cncept. S, what’s new abut this cating? It’s all abut the angles. Because windws are placed vertically (垂直地), sunlight hits them at different angles thrughut the day. If a given cating nly blcks ultravilet light at a 90-degree angle, it is nly useful at the time f day at which the sun hits the glass at that angle. “The angle between the sunshine and the windw is always changing. Our cating maintains functinality and efficiency wherever the sun’s psitin is in the sky,” said the lead authr f the study.
Instead f trying t use trial and errr, which culd take years, the scientists used AI machine-learning mdel assisted by quantum (量子的) cmputing t figure ut the way t create an ideal windw cating. The cating can remain clear and keep a rm cl at any given hur f the day, regardless f the angle at which the sunlight is hitting the windw.
There are endless numbers f practical applicatins fr this new windw cating, frm cmmercial use t hme use, and even fr use in the cars. It will certainly lwer energy use as peple all ver the wrld turn ff their air cnditiners and electric fans and still enjy the view.
28. What is a disadvantage f windw cverings?
A. They are expensive.B. They are difficult t install.
C. They prevent the view utside.D. They can’t blck the heat effectively.
29. What makes the new windw cating unique?
A. It blcks all sunlight.B. It is efficient at a fixed angle.
C. It changes clr with sunlight.D. It wrks in all sunlight cnditins.
30. Hw did scientists develp the new windw cating?
A. By trial and errr.B. With quantum cmputing and AI.
C. By imitating existing windw films.D. With traditinal machine-learning mdels.

Human cnversatins are rapid-fire affairs, with mere millisecnds, ne-thusandth f a secnd, passing between ne persn’s speech and their partner’s respnse. This speedy turn taking is universal acrss cultures — but nw it turns ut that chimps (黑猩猩) d it, t. By analyzing thusands f gestures frm chimps in East Africa, researchers fund that the animals take turns while cmmunicating, and d s as quickly as we d.
Researchers srted ut hundreds f hurs f ftage frm a large database f chimp gestural interactins. The researchers studied the ftage, describing the mvements each chimp made. They fund the chimps respnded t gestures with anther gesture in their interactins. In ne case, tw chimps exchanged seven gestures in a rw: Yung male Daudi in Uganda had caught a small antelpe, and yung female Onyfi was requesting sme f the meat. Every time she made a begging gesture, Daudi wuld respnd by mving his arms and stamping his feet-gestures that mean“mve away, g away”.
This turn taking was rapid and ften verlapping, seeming t flw naturally like in human cnversatins. What’s mre, it tk chimps an average f just 120 millisecnds t respnd t anther chimp's gesture with their wn, well within the 0-t 200-millisecnd range cmmn in human interactins.
“The wrk has imprtant implicatins fr the rigins f human cmmunicatin,” says Stephen Levinsn, a linguist. Humans may have gt turn-taking behavir frm ur last cmmn ancestr with ther great apes (類人猿). Finding ne f thse features-turn taking-in ur clse cusins suggests that even the earliest humans already had this ability.
Hwever, sme researchers say it’s t early t cnclude that humans and chimps bth gt this ability frm ur ancestr. “Withut lking at ther species, we can’t make that claim. We dn’t knw if this is smething special abut chimps’ cmmunicatin, r whether it’s been fund there first ‘because we firstly think f chimps when we’re asking evlutinary (進(jìn)化的) questins’,” an animal cmmunicatin researcher said.
32. What is the cmmn understanding f the turn taking?
A. It refers t all kinds f cmmunicating skills.
