In that embarrassing space between “teen” and “adult”, my accent was a symbl f everything I thught I hated abut my life in the rural Suth. I feared it wuld disqualify me frm being a nted magazine writer. I wuld have t talk less “cuntry”. S I killed a piece f myself. I’m ashamed f it, but I’m mre ashamed that I tried t kill that part f smene else-change Emily’s accent.
I met Emily in cllege. She was determined t wrk fr the student newspaper, which was where I spent mst f my waking hurs, and we became friends. She, unlike me, accepted her rts. Early in ur friendship, her mther asked where I was frm, assuming it was smewhere up nrth. Then I felt my effrts paid ff and even wanted t ignre the mistake.
Emily is tw years yunger and she cared abut my pinin. I advised her t be mre like me and hide her signature Manchester accent. Little kids can pick up a new language pretty easily. It’s suppsed t be far harder fr lder children. But that cnclusin (結(jié)論) might nt be crrect. The windw n when peple can learn a language well appears t last until arund age 17 r 18.

    11. What is the text mainly abut?
    A. A learning guide.B. A study n language learning.

There are s many summer camps and nt all f them are the same.“有這么多夏令營,但并不是所有的夏令營都是一樣的?! 該項中的nt all f them are the same.與T chse which camp is best fr yu,相吻合。
It als makes yu special because ther kids dn't have the same pprtunity.“這也讓你與眾不同,因為其他孩子沒有同樣的機會。”
Challenge means yu are given a task.“挑戰(zhàn)意味著你被賦予了一項任務(wù)?! 故選A。
It als means becming mre cnfident in yurself.“這也意味著你對自己更有信心?!
But what abut friendship, fun and jy?“但是友誼、樂趣和快樂呢?”切題。該項中的But用轉(zhuǎn)折關(guān)系和上文連在一起;下文中的These指的就是該項內(nèi)容what abut friendship, fun and jy? 故選D。
【點睛】做七選五時“當心文中小als”,als是“也”的意思,這就說明前文一定存在它的一個分支了,本題第4小題,前文交代“It means seeing yurself imprve, learning smething new and ding smething yu didn’t knw yu culd d befre.”雖然看上去很長的一句話,但是重點就三個單詞“seeing yurself imprve”,此時在空中填上“It als means becming mre cnfident in yurself.”,(關(guān)鍵詞It als means becming mre cnfident)這樣一對應(yīng)就很工整了。
