D yu remember the name f yur kindergarten teacher? I d, mine. Her name was Mrs. White.
I dn’t remember much abut what we learned in her class, but my mther nce tld me that we used t write a lt. And I wuld bring back what I wrte and she wuld lk at it and see there were s many mistakes. But n red crrectins. And always a star. Smetimes even a Gd! The scrawl (潦草的筆跡) in that wrried my mther, s ne day when she met Mrs. White fr ne f thse Parent-Teacher meetings, she asked her why she never crrected my mistakes. Why she never red-pencilled in the right spellings f wrds r pinted ut grammatical errrs.
Mrs. White said, “The children are just beginning t get excited abut using wrds, abut frming sentences. I dn’t want t dampen that enthusiasm with red ink. Spelling and grammar can wait...” What my mther gave me was the gist f what she culd remember. But I grew up learning t use wrds with lving cnfidence just like that.
And it ccurs t me that if Mrs. White had used her red pen mre precisely I prbably wuldn’t be telling yu abut this nw. I lk back nw and think she must have been a rather extrardinary teacher—t restrain (限定, 限制) her red pen. T allw the jy, wnder and excitement f expressin flwer—hwever faultily—like that.

Eventually the “e” s and “a” s that were wrng placed in “beautiful” settled int their right places.
