There’s a ppular miscnceptin that rhins are aggressive and stupid, but I discvered sensitive, affectinate animals. Weighing ver a tn, black rhins are unexpectedly agile and have an unpredictable nature—but, given reassurance, they can be very trusting. In the past few decades, their numbers have drpped dramatically. In recent years, I’ve helped lk after rhins being mved t sanctuaries (保護區(qū)), s they can frm new ppulatins in cuntries that have few left.
Last year, I helped n a prject t fly five black rhins frm a private reserve in Suth Africa t the Serengeti Natinal Park. Once there, the animals had t be kept captive fr a few weeks t adapt t the new envirnment, in which time they lived in “bmas”-wden enclsures (圍場) with “bedrms”, designed t create a calm space.
A cuple f weeks befre their planned release, the sky filled with smke. Watching the flames rushing thrugh the bush tward the bmas, I frze. Terrified that it wuld catch fire, my instinct was t release the rhins, but hey hadn’t yet been fitted with transmitters. If I let them ut int a bushfire and they were injured, we’d have great difficulty tracking them dwn.
S I dashed back t the bmas and called the rhins t the bedrms. Sensing the fear in my vices, they mved withut hesitatin and remained astnishingly calm. It was crucial the rhins didn’t panic — they can easily hurt each ther if they d.
Meanwhile, the rangers managed t beat the clsest flames away. At last, after half an hur, the wind changed directin and the fire began t recede.
That we and the rhins had escaped unhurt was a miracle. The teamwrk f everybdy there played a large part, and the rhins were very much a part f that team. The relatinships we’d built with them had prved crucial - had they r we panicked, all ur wrk wuld have been in vain. Instead, tw weeks later, they were released int the wild, ready t fund part f a new ppulatin in the Serengeti.

C.T learn crucial survival skills in the wild.D.T frm a clser relatinship with humans.

A.She had t plant transmitters in the rhins.
B.She had t set the rhins free immediately.
C.She had t lead the rhins t a safer place.

27.What is the last paragraph mainly abut?
A.Hw the rhins were released t the wild.B.Why prtecting rhins is imprtant.

Taking gd care f yur teeth may be linked t better brain health, accrding t a study published in the July 5, 2023, nline issue f Neurlgy. “Our study fund that gum (牙齦) disease and tth lss were linked t brain shrinkage (萎縮) in the hippcampus, which plays a rle in memry and Alzheimer’s disease,” said study authr Satshi Yamaguchi, Ph. D.f Thku University in Sendai, Japan.
The study invlved 172 peple withut memry prblems. Their average age was 67-Participants had dental exams and tk memry tests at the beginning f the study. They als had brain scans t measure the vlume f their hippcampus at the beginning f the study. This was measured again fur years later. Fr each participant, researchers cunted the number f teeth and checked fr amunt f gum disease.
Researchers fund that the number f teeth and amunt f gum disease was linked t changes in the left hippcampus f the brain. Fr peple with mild gum disease, having fewer teeth was assciated with a faster rate f brain shrinkage, which is the same fr peple with severe gum disease having mre teeth. After adjusting fr age, researchers fund that fr peple with mild gum disease, the increase in the rate f brain shrinkage due t ne less tth was equal t nearly ne year f brain aging. By cntrast, fr peple with severe gum disease the increase in brain shrinkage due t ne mre tth was equal t 1.3 years f brain aging.
“These results highlight the imprtance f preserving the health f the teeth and nt just maintaining the teeth,” Yamaguchi said. “The findings suggest that cntrlling the prgressin f gum disease thrugh regular dental visits is crucial, and that teeth with severe gum disease may need t be remved and replaced with apprpriate false nes.” Yamaguchi said future studies are needed with larger grups f peple. The limitatin f the study is that it was cnducted in ne regin f Japan, s the results may nt be applied t ther lcatins.

D.Ding a rutine dental checkup can avid gum disease.
31.What’s Yamaguchi’s attitude twards the study?
A.Disapprving.B.Unclear.
C.Psitive.D.Objective.

Nt lng after my daughter was brn in early 2013, I had a serius thught abut the life that lay ahead fr her. With health and luck, she will live lng enugh t see the dawn f the 22nd century.
As a jurnalist, I ften encunter the date 2100. It’s a milestne year frequently mentined in climate change news reprts, stries abut future technlgies and science fictin. But it’s s far ahead that the rute we will take t get there is difficult t see. I rarely cnsider that, like my daughter, millins f peple alive tday will be there as 2100 arrives, inheriting the century my generatin will leave behind.
Fr many f us, hw ften can we truly say we are thinking abut the well-being f these future generatins? Hw ften d we think abut the impact f ur decisins n the decades and centuries ahead?
Part f the prblem is that the “‘nw’cmmands s much mre attentin,” the scilgist Elise Bulding nce said. “If ne is mentally ut f breath all the time frm dealing with the present, there is n energy left fr imagining the future.” N wnder prblems like climate change r inequality feel s hard t handle right nw.
That’s why researchers are cming t the same cnclusin that shrt-termism (短期主義) may be the greatest threat ur species is facing this century. Despite ur natural ability t lk and plan ahead, we have a weakness in ur thinking called “present bias.” Fr example, peple are mre likely t accept an ffer f£10 tday, rather than a guarantee f £12 in a week. They als tend t spend n pleasures, nt save fr rainy days.
I understand the dangers f shrt-termism. I can bth justify the argument and feel the need t care mre abut future generatins. But I admit I still struggle with hw t translate that int clear actin as an individual. T realize that we are just ne in a chain f generatins, we we an bligatin (義務) t ur future generatins t leave a better wrld than the ne we inherited urselves.
32.What is Paragraph2 mainly abut?
A.Peple’s expectatin f the year 2100.
B.The authr’s thughts n the year 2100.
C.The authr’s plan fr his daughter’s future.
D.Peple’s attitude t the imprtance f the year 2100.
33.Why d many f us rarely cnsider ur future generatins accrding t Elise Bulding?
A.Owing t ur ignrance f the future.
B.Because f peple’s inability t plan fr the future.
C.Because f ur difficulty in handling future prblems.
D.Due t the lack f ur mental energy t cnsider the future.
34.What des the underlined wrd “bias” in Paragraph 5 mean?
A.Preference.B.Disrder.C.Balance.D.Freedm.
35.What’s the authr’s purpse in writing this article?
A.T criticize thse wh favr shrt-term rewards.
B.T express his dissatisfactin with the yung generatins.
C.T inspire peple t think mre abut the future generatins.
D.T shw his determinatin t speak fr his daughter’s future.
