247 graduate students f Fudan University have vlunteered t teach the children in the Xihaigu regin (地區(qū)) f Ningxia fr the past 22 years. The regin used t be pr because f its terrible natural envirnment. “We expect t make a difference t the children’s life by sharing ur knwledge in different fields,” ne f the vlunteers says.
The students have different abilities, s the vlunteers have used different teaching methds t help them develp gd study habits. “Lcal children had never learned English befre, s we started with basic knwledge like English letters and prnunciatin,” says Li Lianshu, a Fudan vlunteer. The vlunteers help the students remember English wrds, read articles and deal with their study prblems.
“We visit the students’ hmes in ur free time. We cmmunicate with their parents s that we help the parents understand the imprtance f children’s educatin, because the parents didn’t care much abut ityears ag,” explains Yang Chenhatng, wh was the leader f the vlunteer team in 2019. Accrding t Yang, the parents give their children a lt f supprt in their studies nw.
The vlunteers have helped the lcal children with their studies. They have als set up ftball clubs and held many ball games t make the children’s life clrful. Fudan University has als given away mre than 10 millin yuan t the regin t build playgrunds and ther buildings ver the past 22 years.
