The results f the University f Sussex study, which researchers call the first f its kind, were published in the jurnal Science f the Ttal Envirnment.
The experiment, which surveyed 615 gardens in Britain, fund 25% fewer huse sparrws when glyphsate (草甘膦) was used regularly. This is an ingredient fund in cmmnly used herbicide (除草劑) brands such as Rundup r Gallup. Slug pellets (鼻涕蟲殺蟲劑) als seemed t have an impact n bird sightings; in gardens where Slug pellets were used, huse sparrw numbers were dwn by almst 40%.
Prf. Dave Gulsn, f the schl f life sciences at the University f Sussex, said, “The UK has 22 millin gardens, which cllectively culd be a fantastic refuge fr wildlife, but nt if they are verly tidy and sprayed with pisns. We just dn’t need pesticides in ur gardens. Many twns arund the wrld are nw pesticide free. We shuld simply ban the use f these pisns in urban areas, fllwing the example f France.” The Ryal Hrticultural Sciety, the UK’s leading gardening charity, said the use f pesticides and herbicides shuld be avided if pssible and they shuld nly be used, if ever, in small and targeted applicatins.

A small rbt that can change its shape and prduce heat shws ptential in targeting cancer cells and preventing internal bleeding. It can als be used fr delivering drugs directly t tumrs (腫瘤) r inaccessible areas within the human bdy.
Researchers, led by Ren Ha Sn at the Max Planck Institute fr Intelligent Systems in Stuttgart, Germany, develped a centimeter-sized rbt inspired by panglins (穿山甲). It is cnstructed with sft and magnetic ( 磁性的) materials, allwing the rbt t change its shape.
T enable mvement, shape shifting, and heat generatin, the researchers applied magnetic fields t the rbt’s metal parts. By adjusting the frequency f these fields, the rbt was able t heat up and give ut heat int its surrundings. The team bserved that the rbt’s bdy temperature culd be ver 70℃.
In additin, the researchers used the rbt’s heat t deliver substances within a simulated (模擬的) stmach envirnment. They attached smething simulating medicine capsules nt the rbt, which disslved upn heating, thereby releasing the gds. This technique hlds prmise fr targeted drug delivery inside the bdy.
Sn, his team als tested the rbt’s ability t halt bleeding. They created wunds using a dead pig’s stmach. By pumping bld thrugh a small incisin using a syringe, they simulated bleeding. Subsequently, the rbt extended and cvered the area, giving ut heat t help stp bleeding.
Accrding t Jake Abbtt frm the University f Utah, the rbt culd ptentially be emplyed fr targeted destructin f tumr cells, reducing the need fr expsing large amunts f tissue t radiatin r chemicals. By raising the rbt’s temperature t a level unsafe fr nrmal cells and keeping it in place fr a few minutes, cancer cells can be killed. Abbtt emphasizes the high temperature sensitivity f the human bdy.
    32. What can we infer abut the small rbt?
    A. It has been put int use.
    B. It is mainly used t deliver gds.
    C. It draws inspiratin frm the natural wrld.
    D. It can’t be used withut adding hard elements.
    33. Hw d the researchers make the rbt change shape?
    A. By using heat.B. By using magnets.
    C. By using radiatin.D. By using chemicals.
    34. What des the underlined wrd “halt” in paragraph 5 mean?
    A. Stp.B. Challenge.C. Evaluate.D. Explre.
    35. Which can be the best title fr the text?
    A. A Tiny Rbt Will Be Used In Medicine
    B. Scientists Will Make Rbts Give Out Heat
    C. A Small Rbt Was Made T Deliver Gds
    D. Dctrs Have Used Tiny Rbts T Cure Tumrs
