Taste Testing Withut Smell
We all knw that sme fds taste better than thers. But what gives us the ability t experience all these special flavrs (滋味)?
This simple experiment (實驗) shws that there’s a lt mre t taste than yu might have first thught.
What yu’ll need: A ptat and an apple
Attentin: Cut the ptat and the apple int the same size and shape, s yu can’t tell the difference.
Instructins:
◆Clse yur eyes and mix up the piece f ptat and the piece f apple, s yu dn’t knw which is which.
◆Hld yur nse and eat each piece. Can yu tell the difference?
Why?
Hlding yur nse while tasting the ptat and apple makes it hard t tell the difference between the tw. Yur
nse and muth are cnnected thrugh the same airway. It means that yu taste and smell fds at the same time. Yur sense f taste can recgnize tastes like salty and sweet. But when it wrks tgether with yur sense f smell, yu can recgnize many ther “tastes”. Take away yur smell and it influences yur brain’s ability t tell the difference between certain fds.
