Recalling the fateful day in 2001 when Satyarthi was cnducting a gathering in his village — an educatin march part f the “Save Childhd Mvement” — Lal says Satyarthi sptted him carrying heavy stnes. A shrt cnversatin later, Satyarthi had cnvinced Lal’s parents that their child was meant fr greater things.
“I vividly recall Satyarthi asking my parents whether I went t schl. But nt my parents, grandparents r even great-grandparents had ever been t schl. Tbacc ruins lives, leading t ver 400,000 hspital admissins a year, and ultimately kills tw in three lifetime smkers.
Over the cming weeks, MPs (議員) will debate new laws t create a “smke-free generatin”, meaning n ne brn n r after 1 January, 2009, can be legally sld a cigarette. This is a truly transfrmative piece f public health plicy that culd see an end t tbacc use in England.
The plicy will see the legal age fr being sld tbacc rise by ne year each year frm 2027. While the prpsed age increase apprach is nvel, we knw that raising the age f purchasing wrks. Smking rates drpped by 30 per cent amng yung peple within a year when the legal age increased frm 16 t 18 in 2007. The drp was clser t 40 per cent amng the target age grup when it was raised frm 18 t 21 in the US.
There are cncerns amng sme that the new plicy culd drive an illegal market, but the evidence desn’t back this up.
Since 2000 the illegal market fr tbacc has declined frm 22 per cent t 11 per cent despite raising the age f purchasing t 18, banning smking in public places, intrducing plain packaging, and cntinued price rises. Furthermre, the fcus f the plicy is t prevent peple taking up smking — n ne wh can currently buy tbacc will be unable t d s — making it unlikely there will be an increased demand fr illegal tbacc.
Online sales may als present their wn difficulty as the new plicy cmes int frce, with digital retailers (零售商) having respnsibility t check n the age f custmers remtely. 8. Wh will be restricted by the new plicy?
A. Heavy smkers.B. Cigarette sellers.
C. The tbacc grwers.D. The tbacc advertisers.
9. What is mainly talked abut in paragraph 3?
A. The benefit f the plicy.B. The nvelty f the plicy.
C. The target peple f the plicy.D. The cntent f the plicy.
10. What d sme peple wrry abut?
A. The price f tbacc will g up.B. Mre peple will pick up smking.
C. The tax frm tbacc may decrease.D. The illegal tbacc markets will bm.
11. What will happen t nline tbacc sales with the new plicy in effect?
A. It will encunter resistance.B. It will face a new challenge.
C. It will have simplified prcess.D. It will make mre prfits.

If a dg is therwise healthy, “practicing dg training and engaging their mental and emtinal aspects f their lives will help stp tail chasing,” Hartstein said. “There’s n harm in training mre with yur dg and making sure they are fulfilled and enriched in every way pssible.”
