Wrapping Riley in a wind breaker and cradling him like a baby, Hackett carefully picked his way dwn fr tw hurs befre reaching the Blue River arund dusk. He carried Riley thrugh the knee-deep water. While dg wners have been able t vaccinate (接種疫苗) their pets against Lyme disease since the 1990s, the first human Lyme vaccine, LYMErix, was taken ff the market in 2002, after nly fur years. At the time, sales were lw, partly because the market was small—abut 20, 000 cases a year in the United States-and partly because f unprven claims that the vaccine caused jint pains. Since then, cases have skyrcketed in America. Climate changes play a factr: ticks (蜱蟲) multiply in warm, humid envirnments, and their habitat is expanding. Lyme disease, which was first identified in Lyme, Cnnecticut, in the 1970s, cmes frm black-legged ticks. The ne definitive symptm f Lyme disease, a bull's-eye shaped rash (疹) . desn't always shw up.
