It was lng therized that peple make decisins based n integrated glbal calculatins that ccur within the frntal crtex (額葉皮層) f the brain, which is cnsidered the seat f higher-rder thinking. Hwever, Yale researchers have fund that three distinct brain circuits frm the frntal crtex cnnecting t different brain regins are invlved in making gd decisins, bad nes, and determining which f thse past chices t stre in memry.
The study f decisin-making in rats may help scientists find the rts f bad decisin-making cmmn t mental health disrders such as addictin, the authrs say. They used a new tl t manipulate (操縱) brain circuits in rats while they were making chices between actins that led t them receiving rewards r n rewards. If the rats made the right decisin, ne that ended in a reward, ne f the brain circuits was activated, but anther was activated if the rats made the wrng chice and received n reward. The third circuit stred past experiences and decisins t help the rats with future chices.
Stephanie Grman, lead authr f the research says, “A cmparisn wuld be deciding n a restaurant fr dinner. Fr instance, withut the ‘gd chice’ circuit yu may nt return t the restaurant with gd fd and withut the ‘bad chice’ circuit yu might nt avid the restaurant with bad fd. The third ‘memry’ circuit is crucial in making decisins such as whether t return t the restaurant after receiving ne bad meal after several gd nes.”
Changes in these circuits may help explain a typical feature f addictin why peple cntinue t make harmful chices even after repeated negative experiences, The Yale researchers previusly shwed that sme f the same brain calculatins were disrupted (擾亂) in animals that had taken methamphetamine. “Because we used a test that is similar t thse used in studies f human decisin making, ur findings have direct relevance t humans and culd aid in the search fr nvel treatments fr substance abuse in humans,” Grman said.

S it is that we live in a cld era, where names and faces represent tw different levels f clseness, where wrking relatinships ccur nly thrugh the magic f email and where lve can start r end by text message. An envirnment such as this reduces interpersnal relatinships t mere digital exchanges.

“Find yur passin!” When discussing future career ptins r selecting a majr in cllege, yur parents ften say this. The very expressin is meant t inspire. But is it gd advice?
“Finding” a passin implies that it already exists and is simply waiting t be discvered. Unfrtunately, this idea is nt what science tells us. 36
T study this, researchers use a framewrk f “fixed” and “grwth” mindsets. They argue that encuraging peple t “find” their passin may cause them t eventually believe that interests and passins are inbrn and relatively unchangeable. 37 In cntrast, peple wh view interests and passins as develped have a grwth mindset f interest.
Researchers have revealed that a fixed mindset f interest can decrease creativity. If peple believe they are limited t nly a few inbrn interests and, in cnsequence, d nt explre ther areas, they may miss seeing imprtant cnnectins acrss dmains. 38
Evidently, peple can d a lt t embrace a grwth mindset f interest. First, realize that yur interests and passins aren’t pre-existing. Take an active rle in develping yur passins. Secnd, practise psitive self-talk. When yu lack interest in a new task, pay attentin t yur inner dialgue. 39 Fr example, change “I’m nt interested in this” t “I’m nt interested in this yet, but I knw that interest can develp with time and engagement.”
40 But a grwth mindset f interest will help yu remain pen and curius. The science tells us we shuld wrk tward lving what we d. We might becme mre creative and resilient as a result.
A. S can a grwth mindset f interest be taught?
B. Instead, passins, like interests, are develped.
C. Peple wh think this have a fixed mindset f interest.
D. Of curse, nt every activity will becme a burning passin.
E. As such, seeing interests as fixed limits their creative ptential.
F. Dn’t expect that pursuing new interests will always be easy r exciting.
G. Replace self-critical thughts with psitive nes that encurage grwth and learning. 決勝

Isla and I were studying in the same schl. We had been friends since we were six years ld. I tk Isla as a smart, funny friend, but nt all students at ur schl did, especially the girl students.
