Jhn Tdd is crazy abut skiing and abut having the right stuff (有必備的品質(zhì)) t d it. As a by in Finland, he wuld be dwn in the dumps when the first spring rains came t melt the freeze. He is nw the wrld’s leading snw advisr. His business range includes ski resrts, indr snw playgrunds and the biggest snw event f all: the Winter Olympics.
“When I was grwing up, the winter arrived in mid-Octber and it wuld stay cld until May,” the 64-year-ld tld CNN. “But arund 2000, things began t change.” At 25, Tdd began t cach the Finnish alpine (高山) ski team, but he quit tw years later. As snw cnditins wrsened arund the wrld, he decided t talk with physicists and gegraphers t learn abut snw. “If yu lve snw,” Tdd said, “it is natural t want t rganize snw.”
Fr thse in the business f skiing, snw is nt a natural phenmenn s much as a prduct. The sprt accunts fr ver half f all Winter Olympic events, yet the average February temperature f hst cities has risen frm 0.4℃ in the 1920—1950s, t 6.3℃ in the 21st century. That is why every Winter Olympics since Lake Placid in 1980 has relied n artificial snw.
Snw can be made in machines that take water, mix it with cmpressed air and turn it int a mist f tiny drps that freeze. But they nly wrk belw certain temperatures. Tdd has pineered a technique f “recycling” snw by harvesting it and string it. Befre the Schi games in Russia in 2014, he stred nearly 1m cubic meters f it.
Fr Milan, the hst f the 2026 Winter Olympics, Tdd recmmended that the rganizers cmbine snwmaking with snw recycling which uses much less water. “I hpe the idea f string snw will becme their pririty,” Tdd said.

B.It is accessible t all games.
C.Glbal warming is melting the snw.
D.Envirnmental awareness is rted in peple’s minds.
27.Cmpared with artificial snw, what is the advantage f Tdd’s snw?
A.It is lw-cst.B.It is resurce-saving.
C.It is lng-lived.D.It is time-cnsuming.

Arund ne in ten children in the UK have dyslexia (閱讀障礙) which ften causes reading difficulties. Reading requires the prcess f matching what we see n a page with spken language and meaning. S reading difficulties culd at least in part be caused by differences in hw the brain makes sense f what we see.
In ur recent study, children were presented with patterns f mving dts (圓點(diǎn)) in child-friendly games and asked t wrk ut their verall directin. They had t press a buttn t say whether the dts were ging “l(fā)eft” r “right”. We als studied children’s brain activity. Then we measured hw crrect the children were and hw lng they tk t make their respnses.
The results have shwn that children with and withut dyslexia didn’t seem t differ in hw they first prcessed visual infrmatin, but instead differed in hw they made decisins abut it. Children with dyslexia seemed t see the mving dts just as easily as children withut dyslexia, but tk lnger t decide in which directin they were mving. And when children made decisins n the directin f dt mvement, brain activity in children with dyslexia increased mre slwly.
Althugh wrds dn’t mve, differences in these mtin (運(yùn)動(dòng)) tasks culd influence children’s ability t read. That’s because the sunds that make up language change quickly ver time—just like mving dts—s they depend n the brain prcesses that can discern these changes. If children with dyslexia are slwer t make decisins abut the directin f dt mvement, they may als find it mre difficult t tell apart sunds in spken wrds. In turn, this culd make reading mre difficult as it is s dependent n spken language and meaning.
The study is helping us t build a better picture f hw the brain develps differently in children with dyslexia. Our findings prve that dyslexia culd influence mre than just a child’s reading ability. It is imprtant that we all bear this in mind when supprting children with dyslexia.
28.What were the children asked t d in the study?
A.T mark the right wrds with dts.
B.T memrize the mtin path f each dt.
C.T figure ut the general directin f mving dts.
D.T pick ut the dt mving in the required directin.
29.In which part did children mainly differ accrding t the study?
A.The number f dts they culd see.
B.Their knwledge f spken language.
C.The time they used t remember game rules.
D.Their speed f respnse t the mtin directin f bjects.
30.What des the underlined wrd “discern” in Paragraph 4 mean?
A.Prduce.B.Recgnize.C.Remve.D.Cntrl.
31.What des the authr think f the study?
A.It brings benefits.B.It needs imprving.
C.It influences the children’s ability.D.It supprts the children with dyslexia.

Imagine that yu need milk, s yu g t the grcery stre t pick sme up. When yu get t the dairy sectin, there are s many chices that yu are dumbfunded (目瞪口呆).
This phenmenn is knwn as the paradx f chice and it is becming a cncern in the mdern wrld, where mre and mre ptins are becming easily available t us. The paradx f chice stipulates (規(guī)定) that while we might believe that being presented with multiple ptins actually makes it easier t chse ne that we are happy with, and thus increases cnsumer satisfactin, having an abundance f ptins actually requires mre effrt t make a decisin and can leave us feeling unsatisfied with ur chice. When the number f chices increases, s des the difficulty f knwing what is best. Instead f increasing ur freedm t have what we want, the paradx f chice suggests that having t many chices actually limits ur freedm.
American psychlgist Barry Schwartz published The Paradx f Chice: Why Mre is Less, in 2004.He identified that the range f chices available these days is far greater nwadays; he fund that instead f increasing decisin satisfactin, having t many ptins made peple less likely t be satisfied with the decisin they had made. While freedm is imprtant, Schwartz explains that there is a fine line between having the freedm t chse and being paralyzed (麻痹的) in the face f t many ptins.
While many studies have demnstrated the mre ptins are available, the less satisfied with the decisins peple make, the paradx f chice has been criticized fr nt having enugh cncrete and scientific evidence behind it and critics ften ffer cuntering evidence, such as the fact that Starbucks, which basts a menu with hundreds f pssibilities and custmizatins, is an incredibly ppular and prfitable cmpany.
Barry Schwartz acknwledges that these cntrversial findings are likely apparent. He suggests that if all the studies based n the ways that ptins impact chice are cmbined, we will likely find that smetimes mre ptins leads t increased satisfactin, smetimes it leads t diminished satisfactin.
32.What is Paragraph 2 f the text mainly abut?
A.The methd f the paradx f chice.B.The causes f custmers satisfactin.
C.The imprtance f the chice f freedm.D.The underlying lgic f the paradx f chice.
33.What can we infer frm Paragraph 3?
A.Cnsumer really hpes t have mre chices.
B.Schwartz believes mre chices will be beneficial.
C.Cnsumer satisfactin has nt increased as expected.
D.The Paradx f Chice; Why Mre is Less is criticized fr its cntents.
34.Why is Starbucks mentined in Paragraph 4?
A.T serve as an ppsite example.B.T prve its successful running.
C.T supprt the Schwartz’s view.D.T shw its varius kinds f chices.
35.What’s the Schwartz’s attitude t the verladed ptins in the last paragraph?
A.Unclear.B.Dubtful.C.Cmprehensive.D.Dismissive.

The cwgirls asked me which particular stunt I was interested in learning. I especially liked ne stunt—ne f the girls led a hrse t cntinuusly and slwly run arund the grunds while ne f the ther girls ran acrss the grunds tward a small trampline (蹦床). It was timed perfectly s that she jumped nt the trampline, up int the air, and then nt the hrse’s back. As she landed n its back, she std up and stretched her arms utward as the hrse cntinued slwly running. It lked impressive. They talked me thrugh the necessary mves, stressing the timing since I wuld need t be in the air at the crrect time when the hrse ran past. I wuld judge the speed f the hrse and my wn speed t jump nt the hrse n time.
It was clearly challenging. I was a little hesitant, afraid f being unable t d that well and slwing dwn the filming. But I knew the mst imprtant thing fr me was t cncentrate n the task at hand.
