Anxiety has fllwed me arund like a lst dg lking fr a bne fr years nw. I feel it the mst strngly when I’m wrried abut my health r my daughter’s health. I feel an unusual sensatin and all f a sudden: panic! My wrries are nt limited t health cncerns thugh, and they g in the directin f anxiety abut the future f the wrld, wrries abut my finances, and fears that I’m nt gd enugh.
Let me g back a few decades, back t when anxiety wasn’t part f my life. When I was a child, I lved art. I drew and I clred because that’s what I enjyed. I went t cllege t becme an art teacher. When I finished schl in May f 2001, I had a part-time design jb, and after the event f September 11th, 2001, I knew I needed t travel, t get ut f the safe life I was living in my hmetwn. That’s when my creative practices fell by the wayside.
Luckily, after the birth f my daughter in 2014, the desire t create came back. At first, I was using a tiny crner f a bedrm in ur rental huse t paint. Eventually we bught a huse, and I had the space t spread ut, ready t paint whenever the urge struck. That’s when I started nticing smething imprtant: Painting stilled me in a way that nthing else did. It eased my fears and anxieties in a way ther practices (deep breathing, etc) did nt, at least nt as cnsistently. When anxius thughts start, I knw what t d. I head int my studi, grab sme materials, and start creating. Sn enugh, the wrries are gne and instead my mind is quiet.
I think the reasn why painting is s helpful fr my anxiety is that, in rder fr me t be anxius, I have t be wrrying abut the future and what it hlds. When I’m ding an activity that requires my full cncentratin, I have t be in the mment. It desn’t matter if yu’re artistic. The nly thing that matters is finding a way t be here, in the nw, instead f in the unknwable future.

Eating insects is ne f thse ideas that never quite seem t catch n. The United Natins spread the idea a decade ag, but, in the West at least, insects remain mstly absent frm supermarket shelves. Faced with an unsatisfied public, scientists have been explring ther ptins. One is t feed the insects instead t farm animals, which are nt s picky.
Of curse, the insects need t eat, t. T date, they have mstly reared (飼養(yǎng)) n leftver chicken feed. But the supply f that is limited, and if insect-reared meat is t take ff, new surces will be needed. Niels Eriksen, a bichemist at Aalbrg University, suggests feeding them n the waste prducts f the beer industry.
The wrld kncks back arund 185bn litres f beer every year. Each litre prduces between three and ten litres f wastewater full f thrwn-away grains. The mix is rich in prtein but lacking in carbhydrates (碳水化合物), especially cmpared with chicken feed.
Mst insects grwn fr feed depend, in the wild, n the carbhydrates fund in bad fruit. Whether insects wuld actually cnsider beer waste a square meal was, therefre, unclear.
The researchers used the baby insects f the black sldier fly. The yung insects were divided int three grups, which were ffered beer waste, chicken feed r a mixture f bth. The researchers mnitred bth their weight gain and the amunt f CO? they prduced. They fund the baby insects happily cnsumed bth beer waste and chicken feed, and grew equally well n either fd surce. Dr Eriksen fund few differences in hw nutritius the insects wuld be t farm animals.
The experiment may have implicatins beynd the beer business, t. Bne meal frm farms, and waste frm ther fd industries are all likewise plentiful and prtein-rich.
All nw lk t be reasnable targets fr nutrient recycling by insects. Whether cnsumers will be willing t eat insect-reared beef, thugh, remains t be seen.
28. What is the purpse f Niels Eriksen’s research?

AI culd make it less necessary t learn freign languages. That is gd news fr travelers, bad news fr sulful cnnectin.
Travel has lng been a mtivatr fr study—unless peple start t feel AI tls ffer a gd enugh service. Sme are cncerned that apps are turning language acquisitin int a dwindling pursuit. Duglas Hfstadter, a writer, has argued that smething imprtant will disappear when peple talk thrugh machines. Others are less wrried. Mst peple d nt mve abrad r have the kind f sustained cntact with a freign culture that requires them t put in the wrk t becme fluent. Nr d mst peple learn languages fr the purpse f humanizing themselves r training their brains. On their hliday, they just want a beer and pizza.
As AI translatin becmes a mre ppular labur-saving tl, peple will divide int tw grups. There will be thse wh want t challenge their minds, put themselves in ther cultures r frce their thinking int new pathways. This lt will still take n language study, ften aided by technlgy. Others will lk at learning a new language with a mix f admiratin and cnfusin, as they might with extreme endurance (忍耐力) sprts: “Gd fr yu, if that’s yur thing, but a bit painful fr my taste.”
But a fcus n the learner alne misses the fundamentally scial nature f language. It is a bit like analyzing the benefits f clse relatinships t heart health but verlking the inner value f thse bnds themselves. When yu try t ask directins in brken Japanese r make a jke in hesitant German, yu are making direct cntact with smene. And when yu speak a language well enugh t tell a stry with perfect timing r put subtle (微妙的) shading n an argument, that cnnectin is still deeper.
32. What des the wrd “dwindling” mean in paragraph 2?
A. Grwing. B. Lasting. C. Declining. D. Challenging.

C. Making effrt t learn a new language. D. Studying a language aided by technlgy.
34. Which f the fllwing will the “Others” in paragraph 4 agree with?
A. Peple shuld stretch their minds in life. B. AI translatin tls ffer a gd service.
C. Extreme endurance sprts are wrth trying. D. Language learning builds deep cnnectin.
35. What can we learn frm the last paragraph?
A. Language learning benefits learners alne. B. Language learning is f value t human health.
C. We shuld reflect n language learning methds. D. We shuld adpt a new angle n language learning.
