The 61-year-ld ptat farmer Cliff Yung wn the 1983 Westfield Sydney-Melburne Ultramarathn, which tk runners days t finish, in Australia.

Earlier, scientists had argued that the meter strike caused wildfires, earthquakes and tsunamis, which destryed habitats all ver the planet and made it impssible fr many creatures t survive. The researchers tested their thery by running cmputer simulatins (模擬) f the effect f the meter strike. These simulatins tk int cnsideratin real measurements f dust caused by the meter effect, taken frm a site in Nrth Dakta, US. The simulatins suggested that the dust culd have stayed in the atmsphere fr up t I5 years after being thrwn int the sky.
Philippe Claeys, c-authr f the new research, said that althugh the meter strike was disastrus fr the dinsaurs, it prbably helped humans f the future. “Dinsaurs dminated (統(tǒng)治) the Earth and were ding just fine when the meter hit,” he said. “Withut the impact, my guess is that mammals (哺乳動(dòng)物) — including us — had little chance t becme the dminant creature n this planet.”
