Dear Yur Teen,

Since he started high schl, he has put in a lt f effrt at schl, but he desn’t want t dedicate much time t his music lessns because his schedule is filled with his schl hmewrk. I’d really appreciate it if yu culd give me sme advice. Thanks!
Linda
Expert Tri Crdian
It’s gd fr yur sn t wrk s hard at the start f high schl! The transitin(過渡)frm middle schl t high schl typically brings teens mre hmewrk in harder classes and increases expectatins abut managing their wrklad mre independently. It requires teens t take a hard lk at their schedules and ut-class activities t decide what feels reasnable t stick t while als ding their best at schl. It is a mre imprtant part f adlescence(青春期) t help yur sn realize what he needs fr his wn well-being than cncern which activities he sticks with and which he drps.
If yu decide that yur sn des need t finish the curse, a gd cmmunicatin abut hw t ease his amunt f wrk in ther places may be in rder. Fr example, if yur sn spends a lng time n schlwrk and spends his free time n the pian, yu may decide t give him a break frm ther tasks temprarily(臨時地), while he sees his lessns thrugh t the exam.
Yu raise a cncern many parents have abut cmprmising when yur sn tells yu he wants t quit. Hwever, that desn’t sund like what is happening here. Unless he ften stps and starts many activities and fails t keep at them, yu might instead lk at this situatin as yur sn advcating fr the time and space he needs t take gd care f himself and meet his wn high academic expectatins. That’s exactly the kind f explratin and self-knwledge we want adlescents t develp.
24.Why did Linda write t Yur Teen?
A.Her sn spends much time n the pian.
B.Her sn isn’t respnsible fr his wn decisin.
C.Her sn desires t dedicate much t hmewrk.
D.Her sn wants t quit the pian lessns she has bught.
25.Accrding t Crdian, what shuld senir ne students think abut seriusly?
A.Ding mre hmewrk in harder lessns.
B.Learning harder lessns mre independently.
C.Balancing their ut-class activities and studies.
D.Having a reasnable expectatin f their studies.
26.What des Crdian advise Linda t d?
A.Ask her sn t finish his lessns.
B.Tell her sn t develp self-knwledge.
C.Free her sn frm t many activities temprarily.
D.Cmprmise t his sn abut giving up music lessns.
27.What can we learn frm Crdian’s answer in the last paragraph?
A.Linda’s sn is used t giving up halfway.

D.Linda’s sn can take gd care f himself while studying hard.

Althugh I lve watching Olympic diving, I’ve never understd why athletes hurry ff t the shwers and then prceed t relax in a ht tub(熱水浴池) after each dive. They’re already wet. They’re nly in the pl fr a handful f secnds, s it’s nt like they need t get cleaned up. And desn’t taking a shwer serve the same purpse as sitting in a ht tub?
Actually, that’s what Olympic divers usually d between dives as they knw very well abut the imprtance f warm-ups and cl-dwns. S, what’s the actual reasn?
As it turns ut, shwers and ht tubs are used pretty interchangeably by the swimming pl. Hwever, there is a need fr bth. First, let’s start with why divers need t take a shwer between dives. It has t d with bdy temperature and keeping their muscles relaxed. As yu can imagine, practicing dives in the pl, then having t keep yur bdy warm in a shwer, and then jumping ff a 10-meter platfrm and int cld water culdn’t be cmfrtable fr anyne. Ging back and frth between these warm and cl temperatures can cause a diver’s muscles t tense r cramp up(痙攣), which can lead t injuries t the muscles. Shwers allw an Olympic div er t recver and prevent that.
In that way, shwers and ht tubs serve the same purpse. A ht tub is generally used if yu have a bit mre time between dives and have already stretched. The shwer walls n the pl deck can typically prvide enugh space fr mre divers at the same time, and they’re especially helpful fr athletes wh need t stretch r wh nly have a few minutes between dives. Just like Olympic swimmers depend n thick clthes t keep their muscles
warm, Olympic divers rely n these methds t stay lse. If yu ask me, it’s nt a bad way t pass the time!
28.What des the underlined wrd “prceed” in Paragraph 1 mean?
A.Prefer.B.Cntinue.C.Tend.D.Stp.
29.Why d the athletes need shwers after diving?
A.T fully clean their bdy.B.T rest and wait fr the results.
C.T avid pssible muscle injuries.D.T stp themselves frm catching a cld.
30.What des the last paragraph suggest?
A.Ht tubs are as imprtant as shwers fr divers.
B.Olympic swimmers need t stay warm using ht tubs.
C.Ht tubs are ften used by divers having little time between divers.
D.The shwer walls are designed fr divers wh have already stretched.
31.What is the authr’s purpse in writing this text?
A.T prvide sme diving advice fr us.
B.T cmpare cld shwers with the ht bath.
C.T explain the difference between warm-ups and cl-dwns.
D.T tell us why divers take a shwer and sit in a ht tub after diving.

Parents nce shuted, “Dn’t get dirty!”, as they angrily watched their children spil their best clthes, their whites turning int brwn befre the day was ver.
Tday, many parents may secretly wish their children had the chance t pick up a bit f dirt. With the rise f urbanism(城市化), and exciting vide games and scial media, cntact with nature is much rarer than in the past. Fr many, there is simply n chance t get muddy(沾滿泥的). Accrding t recent research, the dirt utside is teaming with friendly micrrganisms that can train the immune system and build resistance(抵抗力) t many illnesses, including allergies, asthma and even depressin and anxiety.
These findings shw that utdr exercise is nt nly beneficial because f the chance t wander free — but that certain natural materials, such as sil and mud, als cntain surprisingly pwerful micrrganisms whse psitive impact n children’s health we are nly beginning t fully understand. Outdr play can als ffer valuable learning experiences. Fr example, the act f playing mud r sand can help children develp the way their senses and mvement interact.
Such activities — away frm the huse r classrm— may als help children t find ways t deal with emtins that may be hard t explre in ther envirnments. S-called “sand tray therapy”, which invlves using sand and small statues t express ne’s thughts and feelings, is an accepted frm f guidance fr children wh are struggling t express their emtinal state.
Clearly, peple wh spent mst their childhd in the cuntryside tend t shw a better respnse t stressful events like public speaking cmpared with thse wh had grwn up in cities. “The peple wh grew up in cities are kind f ‘walking time bmbs’ when facing the stress we meet tday. Hwever, peple since childhd wh spent lts f time in nature are generally mre psitive.” says Christpher Lwry, a prfessr f integrative physilgy.
32.Hw des the authr intrduce the tpic?
A.By prviding a research.B.By giving a definitin.
C.By making a cmparisn.D.By answering a questin.
33.Which f the fllwing is NOT the benefit f utdr exercise?
A.Imprving the immune system.B.Expressing emtins in prper ways.
C.Gaining valuable learning experiences.D.Teaming with friendly micrrganisms.
34.Why are sme peple “walking time bmbs”?
A.Because they are harmful t the public.B.Because they are gd at public speaking.
C.Because they are mre easily hurt by stress.D.Because they always stay psitive and energetic.
35.What message des the passage mainly cnvey?
A.Getting dirty?—Muddy puddles are actually gd.
B.Outdr activities are far mre ppular than befre.
C.Children will have n stress if they live in the cuntryside.
D.Illnesses can be avided if children are cnfident and psitive.
