I was grwing increasingly impatient with all the stps her little nse required. She inspected the grass, dirt, and trees, and licked (舔) whatever was stuck n the rad. These were all new discveries fr her, and she tk her time studying them.
When I accepted that it was fruitless t hurry her alng, I whipped ut my cellphne and began texting. I thught that I needed smething t d while Gergie was slwing us dwn. Then, fr sme reasn, I heard the cicadas (蟬), and I remembered that the sund f cicadas is my favrite sund in the wrld. I made a cnscius decisin t enjy the jurney t the river just like Gergie. Nw, I admired the flwers and the winding ivy n ur path. I smelled the grass and flwers, and the dirt and the air. I treasured each ne equally, as if discvering them fr the first time.
As we neared ur destinatin, I realized smething even mre imprtant: It didn’t matter whether we reached the river. Why must there always be a destinatin? Gergie had n idea that we had a destinatin. The wrld’s animal ppulatins have decreased by mre than tw - thirds since 1970, accrding t a recent research frm the Wrld Wildlife Fund (WWF).
