Small failures in schl. Anything that really upsets us,
My mther has never tld me "I lve yu, Lisa."—as if the fur-wrd absence explains wh I am—s I carry it with me, like a label n me. The last time she almst spke the wrds was tw years ag, when she called t tell me a friend had been in hspital. I said, "I lve yu, Mm." She stpped fr a while and then said, "Thank yu." I haven't said it since, but I've wndered why my mther desn't until I've fund a pem that supplies wrds fr the blank spaces I try t understand in ur cnversatins:
Dn't fill up n bread. I say absent-mindedly. The servings here are huge.
My sn, middle-aged, says: Did yu really just say that t me?
What he desn't knw is that when we're walking tgether, I desire t reach fr his hand.

She never mentined the pem. But the next time I went hme fr vacatin, I nticed smething new in the kitchen fixed t an antique bard: the pem. The bard hung abve the heater, the warmest spt in the kitchen. The pem still hangs there. Neither my mther nr I have ever spken abut it.

Cming upn a clear-cut in an ld frest is a shcking experience. Trees large and small are cllapsed ne abve the ther in pile, and the grund is cvered with the tracks f heavy machinery. Such was the scene when frest activist Zack Prter and I hiked a newly built lgging(伐木)rad in Green Muntain Natinal Frest.
Clear-cutting in the American frests has lng been widespread. But nw, the Frest Habitat Creatin Prject represents new reasning which is htly debated—that clear-cutting benefits native creatures. The thinking is that clear-cutting dne wisely can cpy natural disturbances, fr example, frm insect invasins(入侵)r frm strms verturning lder trees that prduce what eclgists call Early Successinal Habitats—places where yung trees and bushes get the upper hand and animals that depend n such habitat grw well.
The prject als states that frests "can nly be saved by being destryed"—by keeping them yung. Timber(木材)interests are enthusiastic abut the apprach because it lets them prfit frm cutting trees while claiming the significance f cnservatin. Hunting grups favr it because a yunger, less thick frest makes it easier t find the game and birds they're tracking.
Nevertheless, Prter says, "Allwing sme f the ldest standing trees in New England t be remved is equal t derelictin f duty n the part f the gvernment, wh sees the frests as cmmdities(商品)” "Frests can prduce clean water, clean air, carbn strage, and bidiversity that we need," he cntinues as we walk amng lvely mixed hardwds and evergreens that are cut dwn fr lgging. "We shuldn't be remving them fr shrt-term gain."
In this sense, Zack Prter's descriptin f lgging fr wildlife fr shrt-term gain—the shrt-term gain f favring habitat fr species peple tday want t see and hunt—is reasnable.
28. Hw des the authr start the text?
A. By presenting sme ideas. B. By listing sme evidence.
C. By cmparing different views. D. By stating his wn experience.
29. Which argument des the Frest Habitat Creatin Prject hld?

30. What des the underlined wrd "derelictin" mean in paragraph 4?
A. Fulfillment. B. Prmise. C. Miscnduct. D. Expsure.
31. Which f the fllwing is a suitable title fr the text?
A. A New Apprach t Frest Prtectin B. A Hiking Experience in the Lgging Rad
C. Hw t Build Early Successinal Habitats? D. Is Clear-cutting Frests Gd fr Wildlife?

"Right t Repair" is a glbal mvement t make sure everyne has the right t fix the prducts they wn. The idea has generally cme frm the United States. The earliest knwn published reference using the grup f wrds cmes frm the aut industry dating back t 2003. Its supprters require cmpanies t prvide their parts, tls and infrmatin fr cnsumers and repair shps. They als encurage the gvernment t make laws t frce prducers t increase device repairablity.
The FTC in May presented a 56-page reprt. It said that "many cnsumer prducts have becme harder t fix." The reprt als fund that "the burden f repair limits may fall mre heavily n cmmunities f clr and cnsumers having little mney" because many independent repair shps are wned by peple f clr and because high-cst repairs hit lw-paid cnsumers harder.
32. What is the prblem in the prduct market accrding t the text?

34. Why is "aut industry” mentined in paragraph 4?
A. T prvide a slutin. B. T reach a cnclusin.
C. T give backgrund infrmatin. D. T intrduce a new tpic fr discussin.
35. What can we learn abut the mvement frm the last paragraph?
A. It may especially benefit the pr. B. It will help reduce prductin csts.
C. It was started by cmmunities f clr. D. It is supprted by authrized repair shps.

The hliday seasn is cming up and many cultures give gifts fr different hlidays. I'm nt really gd at chsing gifts fr peple, thugh. Because every time I g and buy smething fr smene, I want t buy smething that I like and I wuld think that it wuld lk gd n them r smething. But then my friends dn't really like the gift s much because it desn't suit them. Fr example, I bught a pair f earrings fr a friend and then I realized that she desn't really like jewelries, s she never wre it. It's kind f hard t knw what they want. Actually, fr that reasn, I dn't like giving gifts at all. I think it's because f my backgrund, like studying ecnmics. It's just, t me, inefficient. Yu' re buying smething, yu dn't knw if they really want it and they say, "Oh. It's the thught that cunts." Yu waste time finding the gift and then yu give them the gift and maybe they dn't use it. S I'm nt a big fan f gift giving. Even fr birthdays. And fr me, if it were my birthday, I wuld have smene make a card fr me. It wuld have mre value than smene buying gifts fr me anyway.Dear Tny,
Yurs,
Li Hua
"Smething must have gne wrng with him," I thught t myself.
Having the by n the flr, I put my ear t his muth and my fingers at his neck.
