Today, we are talking about money. I can share a bit about my history with money and my new view when it comes to using green paper.
I made a web page with links to posts about our financial (財政的) journey where you can look for more details of where we've been and how we got where we are now. It was a big part of my story in the past and was a huge part of our downsizing(精簡) journey. We got out of debt and stayed out of debt.
So I feel eager(渴望的)to share the benefits of being on this side. It takes more planning and more careful thought whenever a dollar is spent now than it did when I had a wallet full of credit cards. I now like to think all of my dollars doing the job. So many of us work for money and don't consider that money should work for us, too. Make your dollars do the job of helping you live the life you want.
Each time money is spent or saved, it should be going toward something that you purposefully want for your life. Last week I was out and I spent $ 20 on food in 3 days. It made me angry because afterward I thought about eating is not at all what I want for my life.
On the other hand, there are times I spend $ 20 while out with my family and it doesn't bother(使煩惱)me one bit. An afternoon out with my kids during which we stop for ice cream, and do something fun together has a completely different feel.
In the end, I want the dollars I spend to have purpose like I can enjoy life while still planning and saving for the future.

A. more credit cards should be used in our daily life
B. we should work hard to make more money
C. money should help us live better
D. saving money is very easy
7. Why does the writer feel happy with the money spent with his family?
A. Because the money is spent on food.
B. Because the money is spent in doing something fun.
C. Because eating is what he wants for his life.
D. Because the money goes toward something that he wants for his life.
C
Scientists report that people in Sydney, Australia are in a war with cockatoos (鳳頭鸚鵡). The birds have learned to open the lids on trash bins (垃圾桶蓋), and people are figuring out new ways to keep the lids closed. But the clever birds are quickly discovering new tricks.
Cockatoos are large, white birds in the parrot family. They’re common in western Australia, where they normally live in wooded areas. But as forests have been cut down, cockatoos have gotten used to living near people.
Last year, scientists at the Max Planck Institute reported that cockatoos had learned how to open the lids on trash bins. Cockatoos open the lids to find food scraps (剩下的食物). But they can also make a big mess, which upsets the people who own the trash bins.
What really interested the scientists was that the birds were teaching other cockatoos how to do the same thing. When scientists first began studying the cockatoos in 2018, only three areas near Sydney had lid-opening cockatoos. A year and a half later, cockatoos in 44 different areas knew the trick.
The researchers asked over 1,100 people from around Sydney about their trash bins. More than 15% of the people were taking steps. The goal was to make it hard for the cockatoos to open the bins. The most common way of protecting the bins was putting a brick or other heavy object on the lid.
The scientists discovered that the humans were teaching each other tricks, too. In most neighbourhoods, many people used the same cockatoo-stopping methods as their neighbours.
The researchers say it’s like a race between humans and cockatoos to learn new ways of doing things. Now many cockatoos have learned how to push heavy things off the bins. As a result, humans have figured out ways to attach the items to the top of their bins. The researchers describe the situation as a “human-wildlife conflict (沖突)”. They expect these conflicts to become more common as humans take over more areas that used to be wild.
8. Why do cockatoos choose to live near people?
A. To avoid being killed. B. To look for some food.
C. They like playing with trash bins. D. Their homes have been destroyed.
9. How do the owners of trash bins feel about the cockatoos’ behaviour?
A Worried. B. Surprised.
C. Annoyed. D. Interested.
10. What do the researchers think of the situation between cockatoos and people?
A. It’s a boring game. B. It’s an interesting contest.
C. It’s a necessary competition. D. It’s an effective communication.
11. What can we infer about the cockatoos?
A. They are stupid indeed. B. They like making trouble.
C. They like communicating with people. D. They keep learning and making progress.
D
A recent study suggests that when it comes to the benefits of reading, just doing it matters more than the content. Researchers have found that reading novels helps the brain development in understanding others and imagining the world. They also have found that people who spend a few hours per week reading books live longer than those who don’t read.
But how to build a habit of reading? Like any habit, the trick is in figuring out what suits you. The hardest part about reading is actually picking up a book. You have to sit down, pick up a book and start reading. “I always have a book next to wherever I put my phone,” My friend Jimmy once told me. “So if I want to check my phone, I physically can see the book there. Nine times out of ten. I end up reading the book instead of using my phone for nothing.”
Another challenge is time, and in that case, audiobooks(有聲書) can be a good choice. Audiobooks are great for filling the mind while you’re on the way to work, washing dishes or working out at the gym.
If you’re still stuck on the way to developing a reading habit, the best way is to revisit your old favorite books to get your youthful reading pleasure. You should free yourself from the opinion that only important or educational books are worth reading. There’s no shame in rereading the books that made you fall in love with reading in the first place. Restarting the practice of reading is a little like picking up painting. It takes some work to get into the best state, but once you begin, the results are beautiful and satisfying.
12. What is the most difficult part in forming the reading habit?
A. Getting reading skills. B. Finding a great book.
C. Having limited time. D. Getting reading started.
13. What is the advantage of audiobooks according to the text?
A. They are time saving. B. They provide more pleasure.
C. They aid brain development. D. They offer more book choices.
14. Why is rereading old favourite books a good idea?
A. It helps restart reading. B. It is of great convenience
C. It improves the taste for art. D. It can increase your patience.
15. What can be the best title for the text?
A. Method of killing free time B. Advantages of using audiobooks
C. Way to choose educational books D. Tips on developing a reading habit

A. Worried. B. Surprised.
C. Annoyed. D. Interested.

Another challenge is time and in that case, audiobooks(有聲書) can be a good choice.
