Going green seems to be fad (時尚) for a lot of people these days. Whether that is good or bad, we can't really say, but for the two of us, going green is not a fad but a lifestyle.
On April 22, 2011, we decided to go green every single day for an entire year. This meant doing 365 different greenthings, anditalsomeantchallengingourselvestogogreenbeyondtheeasythings.Ratherthanrecycleand reduceourenergy,wehadtothinkof365differentgreenthingstodoandthiswasnoeasytask.

Here is an astonishing and significant fact: Mental work alone can't make us tired. It sounds absurd. But a few years ago, scientists tried to find out how long the human brain could labor without reaching a stage of fatigue(疲勞). To the amazement of these scientists, they discovered that blood passing through the brain, when it is active, shows no fatigue at all! If we took a drop of blood from a day laborer, we would find it full of fatigue toxins(毒素) and fatigue products. But if we took blood from the brain of an Albert Einstein, it would show no fatigue toxins at the end of the day.
So far as the brain is concerned, it can work as well and swiftly at the end of eight or even twelve hours of effortasatthebeginning.Thebrainistotallytireless.Sowhatmakesustired?
Some scientists declare that most of our fatigue comes from our mental and emotional(情感的) attitudes. One of England's most outstanding scientists, J. A. Hadfield, says, “The greater part of the fatigue from which we suffer is of mental origin. In fact, fatigue of purely physical origin is rare.” Dr. Brill, a famous American scientist, goes even further. He declares, “One hundred percent of the fatigue of sitting worker in good health is due to emotional problems.”
What kinds of emotions make sitting workers tired? Joy? Satisfaction? No! A feeling of being bored, anger, anxiety, tenseness, worry, a feeling of not being appreciated those are the emotions that tire sitting workers. Hard work by itself seldom causes fatigue. We get tired because our emotions produce nervousness in the body.
28.Whatsurprisedthescientistsafewyearsago?
A. Fatigue toxins could hardly be found in a laborer's blood.
B. Albert Einstein didn't feel worn after a day's work.
C. The brain could work for many hours without fatigue.
D. A mental worker's blood was filled with fatigue toxins.
29. According to the author, which of the following can make sitting workers tired?
A. Challenging mental work. B. Unpleasant emotions.
C. Endless tasks. D. Physical labor.
30.What'stheauthor'sattitudetowardsthescientists'idea?
A. He agrees with them. B. He doubts them.
C. He argues against them. D. He hesitates to accept them.
31. We can infer from the passage that in order to stay energetic, sitting workers need to .
A. have some good food B. enjoy their work
C. exercise regularly D. discover fatigue toxins

On October 15th, a 12-year-old girl was struck by lightning in Arizona. However, her father saved her life. She was brought to the hospital in West Valley. Her heart stopped three times, but her father used CPR each time to bring her back to life until she finally stabilized.
Dr. Kevin Foster works with burn and lightning strike patients. He believes the girl’s father and the Fire Department were crucial in saving her life. “I think the important thing in saving her was that her father recognized that her heart had stopped. He was able to do effective CPR and get her heart beating again and that truly saved her life,” Dr. Kevin Foster said.
The young girl's father, Steven Jorgensen, was a military veteran (老兵) and also had medical training. He said he “had plenty of experience” with severe injury. “I’m just a dad taking care of his daughter,” Jorgensen said of Ella, his daughter.
Ella was skeptical when Jorgenson told her she'd been hit by lightning but eventually came to believe him. She was even excited to tell her friends about the event when she returned to school. “Once they got the tubes out and her mom told her again, she just looked at her and hugged her and said she was going to have a cool story to tell forever.” Since the accident, she has recovered very well. She only has a small burn likely from a contact area, but no other serious injuries or burns that are cause for concern.
According to Dr. Foster, the primary worry of those who have been struck by lightning is how much electricitycomesintocontactwiththeirbodies.Ittypicallyleadstoburnsandcardiac(心臟的)issues. There have been several incidents in recent years where people died because of unsafe crowd conditions and stampedes(人群的蜂擁), the latest one unfolding in Seoul, with at least 155 deaths reported. This may leave some people thinking there's little you can do to survive a stampede. 36 But crowd-safety experts say there are several strategies that could help you avoid a potentially deadly outcome. Consider these steps below:
The key to staying safe in a crowd begins as soon as you arrive at the location, says Randy Atlas, a safety consultant based in Fort Lauderdale. 37 It's a piece of common-sense advice that Atlas applies not just at big events, but even when entering almost any room.
If there's a sudden panic and crowds begin to push in a certain direction, your instinct (本能) may be to fight back and push the opposite way. 38 If you go against the flow, you increase your chances of getting tripped and knocked down. Another risk, according to experts: If you fight the crowd, you will tire yourself out quickly in a situation where energy is needed.
As you move forward with the crowd, it's best to move in a diagonal (對角線的) direction so you can potentially angle your way out of the situation. The goal is to get to the edge of the stampede where it's less likely that you'll end up stuck at a choke-point, like a doorway.
39 Look for a solid structure to stand behind such as a pillar or a wall. Other places to duck: behind a car or even a lamp post.
In many stampede events, people die simply because they are crushed to the point where they can't breathe. But a possible way to avoid this is to place your arms in front of-you, almost in a boxer-like position. That could give you some very valuable breathing room literally. 40
A. Another potential way is to shelter yourself.
B. But that could be a big mistake, Atlas warns.
C. In this case, you don't necessarily have to wait and let time slip by.
D. It's a simple pose, but surprisingly effective and possibly life-saving.
E. Namely, he advises people to take note of where the nearest exits are.
F. Other events, such as a Halloween gathering, are likely to turn deadly.
G. Indeed, it's a frightening situation and circumstances may make it impossible to escape.

Dear Amy,
I am writing to share some details about the mobile payment in contemporary China.
Honestly, I am proud of China's widespread use of mobile payment systems. We can deal with daily tasks, such as shopping and boarding public transport, without carrying cash, wallets or other physical alternatives. Scanning a QR code can do the job. Moreover, thanks to great leaps in technological breakthroughs, mobile payment also provides better environmental efficiency, lower costs of businesses, and higher engagement of customers.
What do you think of it? Please let me know.
Yours,
Li Hua
