When she was just 8, Sammie Vance thought about a question. What breaks your heart? "For me, it's seeing people who need a friend," the seventh grader from Indiana, US. told People magazine. "I've been lonely myself, I don't want others to feel that way."
Soon after a summer camp. Vance learned about buddy benches(伙伴長椅). These benches are seats at a school playground. A lonely child can sit on it, which shows that he or she is in need of a friend.
She loved this idea. "This would be really cool." Vance said. Then she got into action at once. She collected 725 kgs of bottle caps and found a factory to turn the caps into benches for her school. According to Vance, these benches cost much less than common park benches and are good for the environment.
Vance collected more for benches at other schools, too. She also made a website page for others to follow her journey and make bottle cap donations(捐贈). She was surprised that her small project had had an influence on people around the world. She even received bottle caps from Germany and Australia. But she has no plans of stopping. She said in an interview that even adults(成年人)can use a buddy bench because people at any age can feel lonely.
"I just look forward to making a difference." she said, "and inspiring(激勵)other people to make a difference."
58. What makes Sammie Vance sad?

People are always trying to live a healthy life. You might have read so much on this topic. The following ideas may sound strange, but they can really help you.
Exercise when you are tired.
After a long and tiring day of study, exercising might not sound like a good idea, but it should. In fact, physical activities can provide you with the missing energy. Research shows that exercising for just 30 minutes can make you feel good!
Write by hand to help the brain be active.
Although writing something using a computer is faster, it is much better to remember the whole thing by writing it down by hand. When you read a handwritten text, naturally it's easier for your brains to remember the information.
Spare more time for yourself.
By sparing the time for yourself and just being alone for a while, you can have a chance to think and get to know yourself better. And you won't behave impulsively(沖動地).
Drink hot drinks on a hot day.
What cools more on a hot summer morning, cold water or hot water? The study shows that the hot water does make people feel cooler. When you are drinking something hot, the body will feel the change in temperature and increase the perspiration(流汗), which helps you cool down!

64. The writer of the passage wants to tell us that _________.
A. handwriting makes us smart
B. sometimes unusual ideas about health are helpful
C. being alone helps us know our friends better
D. hot drinks can make us uncomfortable
D
Sometimes I really doubt whether there is love between my parents. They don't act in the romantic ways that I read in books or I see on TV. In their opinion, "I love you" is too luxurious(奢侈的) for them to say. Sending flowers to each other on Valentine's Day is even more out of the question. And my father has a bad temper(脾氣).
One day, my mother was sewing a quilt(被子). I silently sat down beside her and looked at her.
"Is there love between you and Dad?" I asked her in a very low voice.
My mother stopped her work and raised her head with surprise in her eyes. She didn't answer immediately.
I was very worried because I thought I had hurt her. But at last I heard my mother say the following words.
"Lily," she said, "look at this thread(線). Sometimes it appears, but most of it disappears in the quilt. The thread really makes the quilt strong and durable(耐用的). If life is a quilt, then love should be a thread. It can hardly be seen anywhere or anytime, but it's really there. Love is inside."
I listened carefully but I couldn't understand her until the next spring. At that time, my father suddenly got sick seriously. My mother had to stay with him in the hospital for a month. When they returned from the hospital, they both looked very pale.
After they were back, every day in the morning and dusk(黃昏), my mother helped my father walk slowly on the country road. My father had never been so gentle. It seemed that it was their most harmonious(和諧的) period. The sun gently glistened(閃耀) among the leaves. All of these made up the most beautiful picture in the world.
The doctor had said my father would recover(恢復) in two months. But after two months he still couldn't walk by himself. All of us were worried about him.
"Dad, how are you feeling now?" I asked him one day.
"Lily, don't worry about me," he said gently."To tell you the truth, I just like walking with your mum." Reading his eyes, I know he loves my mother deeply.
Once I thought love meant flowers, gifts and sweet kisses. But from this experience, I understand that love is just a thread in the quilt of our life. Love is inside, making life strong and warm.
65. Why does Lily sometimes doubt that there is no real love between her parents?
A. Because they are very busy earning money.
B. Because they don't have enough money for love.
C. Because her father is easy to lose his temper to her mother.
D. Because she doesn't see the thread in the quilt.
66. Which of the following is similar to the underlined phrase "out of the question" in Paragraph 1?
A. Possible. B. Impossible. C. Necessary. D. Unnecessary.
67. What made her father change so greatly?
A. The quilt story from her mother. B. One-month stay in the hospital.
C. The beautiful scenery of the country road. D. The sickness her father suddenly got.
68. What's the main idea of the passage?
A. We should understand our parents however old they are.
B. Love is hidden in the life, but it really influences our life.
C. We really need love because it makes our life harmonious.
D. Love is so important to everyone that we must love everyone.
E
Is it shi(是) or si(斯) in the sentence "Thus when Heaven is about to confer a great office on any man(故天將降大任于是/斯人也)…"? Not long ago, people had a heated discussion online about this. Most people "clearly remember" that it's si, while their childhood textbooks say it's shi.
It shows how unreliable(不可靠的) our memory can be. According to US psychologist Faith Brynie, memories can be influenced by imagination, belief and time. Many studies have proven that "feeling certain" about a memory sometimes has nothing to do with the facts.
Attitudes and beliefs change our memory.
Scientists at Cornell University, US, told college students a story about a man who walked out without paying a restaurant bill. The first group was told that the man "liked to steal". The second group was told that he left because he got an emergency(緊急的) phone call.
One week later the first group remembered a higher bill-10 to 25 percent more than the bill actually was. The second group remembered a lower bill. The study showed that how we expect or believe things to happen can distort(扭曲) our memories.
Remembering things that never happened
In another experiment(實驗), people watched a film and were asked: "How fast was the white car going when it passed the barn(谷倉) while traveling along the country road?"Actually there was no barn in the film. But about 20 percent of the students said they had seen the barn. Northwestern University scientist Kenneth Paller said that parts of the brain for really seeing an object and imagining an object overlap(重疊). So imagination after getting a hint(暗示) could leave a memory trace(痕跡) in the brain.
Si or shi
In the case of si or shi, some people said that si sounds more like ancient Chinese. That's why most people relate it to the ancient classic. On the Internet, the version(版本) of si is also more widespread than shi, giving people a wrong hint.
69. In the first experiment, the first group remembered a higher bill because ________.
A. the students forgot the bill completely
B. the students thought the man was rich enough
C. the scientists made the students believe the man was bad
D. the scientists told the students that the man should pay more
70. What does the underlined word "hint" in the second experiment refer to?
A. The sights in the film. B. Kenneth Paller's words.
C. The word "barn" in the question. D. A real barn in students' memories.
71. What can we learn from the case of si or shi?
A. Feelings can decide people's memories. B. The version of shi is more widespread.
C. People's memories are always unreliable.
D. There was no sound of shi in ancient Chinese.
72. Which of the following is the best title for the passage?
A. Are you really sure? B. Have you forgotten yet?
C. What should be remembered? D. How is the memory improved?
B)請先閱讀下面短文,掌握其大意,然后根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容從下面方框內(nèi)的七個選項中選擇五個還原到文中,使短文意思通順,結構完整,并在答題卡上將其序號涂黑。一空一句。
