There is always a discussion about whether you should get your kids to do chores around the house or not. However, it really has so many benefits(益處)to children that I find it hard to understand why you wouldn’t let them do a few chores.
The most important reason is that getting children to do chores gives them a lot of life skills. They need to understand how to clean, how to cook, how to shop, etc. It is, however, one of the things that schools don’t necessarily teach completely, so it is one of the main parts of learning that parents should provide for children before they leave home.
Children like to feel proud about their achievements. Helping around the house can really help to give them a sense of pride, and giving them praise for helping will make them want to do more. They will feel happy to be able to help around the house, not just a bystander.
Giving your children a job or an area in the house to look after will help them learn how to be responsible in later life. They will see the benefit of keeping things organized, clean and tidy—and also appreciate(感激)more what you do for them as they grow up.
Planning is a life skill that can be gained(獲得)from helping around the house. As children get older, you can start to teach them how to understand the needs of themselves and others and plan by themselves.
All these reasons to get kids to do chores and help around the house mean that they’ll grow up with a great set of skills that will serve them well through their lives. Why not get started today?
根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容,選擇最佳答案。

A.Someone who studies by themselves.
B.Someone who watches without taking part.
C.Someone who thinks parents should push kids hard.
D.Someone who helps parents with many chores at home.
64.What’s the main idea of Paragraph 4?
A.Children should get good at planning. B.Children should have a sense of pride.
C.Children should learn to be responsible. D.Children should know what teamwork is.
65.Which of the following shows the structure(結(jié)構(gòu))of the passage? (P=Paragraph)
A. B. C. D.
66.What’s the best title for the passage?
A.Doing chores through our life
B.Reasons to get children to do chores
C.The importance of getting along with your children
D.A discussion about why kids shouldn’t do chores at home

十、閱讀判斷

Once upon a time, there lived a kind-hearted king. He liked birds and animals, and had a huge bird sanctuary(禁獵區(qū)) in his country. He disliked harming the animals and birds. He did not kill them even for meat. One day, the king was gifted two beautiful birds by a businessman. The king ordered the trainer to make them feel comfortable in their country.
One day, the king saw one bird fly very high, very quickly. However, the other bird just sat on the branch(樹枝) and didn’t move even a step. The trainer said that he had tried everything he could but still failed to make the bird move. Soon, the king announced that he needed someone to make the other bird move and fly.
A few weeks later, an old man reached the king’s palace and said that he would make the bird fly like the other one. The king asked the trainer to take the old man to train the bird.
The next day, the king went to visit the old man. He was very surprised to see the other bird fly like the first one to great heights in fast speed. The king was very happy and gifted the old man a handful of gold coins and asked the old man what he had done to make the bird fly in a day. The old man simply replied, “I just cut down the branch of the tree where the bird used to sit on.”
Many of us are like this. We have wings to fly, we know how to fly, and where to fly. Still we sit doing nothing or doing something that makes us worse than others.
根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容,判斷正(T)、誤(F)。

70.The old man cut down the whole tree where the bird used to sit on.
71.We learn from the story that we shouldn’t sit still when we have wings to fly.

It is impossible to name all Chinese customs in a single article. Even so, in this passage we bring you four Chinese customs that you may not know. Here we go!
Asians usually do not show their feelings openly, also avoid any unnecessary physical contact(接觸). 72 In fact, shaking hands was also frowned(皺眉)upon in the past. For them it is enough to make a small nod when greeting. As the country gradually lets western traditions in, handshake is gradually spread.
73 They usually clean their hands before eating. Food manners are also very important. You should never serve yourself a drink, it should be served by someone else. In the meal they always use chopsticks and a spoon. 74 And to eat you must put your mouth close to the plate and the chopsticks.
Cities and towns in China have public toilets along the street, so that everyone can use them. Since space is very important in large Chinese cities, this is saved by creating public restrooms. 75
Many of you know the Chinese custom of not opening gifts in public. But that’s not the only important thing to know when giving something to a Chinese person. For example, the Chinese will always refuse your gift up to three times, for simple education. 76 And remember to receive the gift with both hands.
閱讀文章并根據(jù)上下文用下面適當(dāng)選項(xiàng)補(bǔ)全短文。
A.But in the end, they’re willing to accept it.
B.Chopsticks should never be stuck in food.
C.However, many factories also have their own toilets for their workers.
D.When the Chinese have meals, they have many customs.
E.The Chinese see badly that people kiss each other on the faces, even if they are women.

十二、閱讀回答問題
Long long ago, there lived a farmer in a small house outside the village. One day while walking through a market, he saw many baskets and among them was a basket of strawberries.
Seeing those strawberries, the hope of eating them came into the farmer’s mind. He had no money to buy them so he controlled his wish and went on his way to his house. But even after reaching his small house, the thought of eating strawberries wouldn’t go away. He kept thinking about them only and couldn’t even sleep well at night.
The next morning, when he woke up, he started thinking of ways to make money so that he could buy strawberries and fulfill(滿足)his wish. Then he got an idea. He decided to collect some dry wood and sell it at the market. He went to the forest and started picking up dry wood, and before evening he collected a lot of dry wood. Carrying the wood on his shoulder, he started walking to the market.
The farmer sold all the wood shortly after he got to the market. With all the money he got, he bought some strawberries and happily started walking back to his house.
On his way, he thought, “Today I had the wish to eat strawberries. Tomorrow some other wishes may come into my mind. If I give in(讓步)today, then I will become a slave(奴隸)of my desire(欲望).”
As soon as this thought came, the farmer gave up the idea of eating the strawberries, which took him so much hard work. Finally, he gave all the strawberries to a poor man who was passing by at that time.
根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容,回答下列問題。

I volunteer at a shop once a week. Before store hours, I need to do some preparation work. We have clothes, books, cameras and more here. But we have no food. Today, to begin with, I went through the lists to make sure that they were all in good condition.
Besides this, I also need to make the window clean and beautiful. This time, I chose a lovely orange dress to make the window lively. After all the preparation work was done, we opened the store. I greeted our customers and introduced the good things to them. When there were no customers, I took the time to learn more about the things we sell. In this way, I could tell our guests more information if they asked, such as the story of a book or the year in which a camera was made.
I love this job. It has taught me new skills and allowed me to have more experience. If you are interested in the volunteer job, why not have a try?
