American Visionary Art Museum, Baltimore, USA
Tel:410-244-1900
Ever looked at some artwork in a gallery (no doubt with words of praise printed on the wall) and thought: What's so special about that? I could do that. In fact, I could do better. Well, the American Visionary Art Museum is for you. Grounded in the idea that not all great artists go to art school, the museum focuses on self-taught art, resulting in some of the most inspirational art you'll ever see.
Cup Noodles Museum, Osaka, Japan
Tel:072-752-3484
Ikeda, a small city in Osaka, is the birthplace of instant noodles. The galleries at its Cup Noodles Museum document the journey from chicken noodles to “space noodles”. It’s a great place, where you can make your own noodles, create your own packaging and walk through an “instant noodles tunnel (隧道)”.
Museo Subacuático de Arte, Cancún, Mexico
Tel:998-810-4508
You can't help but wonder how the archaeologists of the future will describe the museum. At first sight, the underwater gallery looks like a rediscovered ancient city. It contains over 500 sculptures(雕塑品) of six different artists, which have been placed on the ocean floor for snorkelling(浮潛) tourists (and schools of fish). The museum may also be viewed by glass-bottom boat.

When a Houston dad found out his eight-year-old son was being bullied (欺負(fù)), he didn’t get mad at the classmate who teased him. Instead, he talked with the so-called bully and realized that the boy was struggling, too.
Aubrey Fontenot’s son, Jordan, told him a boy named Tamarion was teasing him. Fontenot decided to sit down with his son and Tamarion to understand what was going on, and something unexpected happened.
Tamarion told Fontenot he was being teased at school, too. “I asked, ‘By who? You are big. You are huge. Who is teasing you?’” the father said. “He said, ‘Just all the other kids, man. They are making fun of me.” Fontenot learned that Tamarion was getting teased for his clothes and shoes—his clothes and shoes were old and dirty. Fontenot then spoke to the boy’s mother. “She kind of confirmed it,” Fontenot said. “And she said, ‘That’s the kind of situation.’”
He felt sympathetic to the young boy and wanted to help. So he asked Tamarion’s mom if he could take her son to do some shopping.
Fontenot posted videos of their trip to the mall on social media and they went viral. Tamarion eventually smiled, and then the two were laughing and singing together on their shopping trip. Just as if he were taking his own son to do some shopping, Fontenot got Tamarion new clothes and shoes, and shared words of wisdom with him.
Then, the dad united the two boys. He said it was awkward at first—just a day earlier, they didn’t get along well at school. But the two classmates started playing sports games together and soon became friends.
It was not just about the clothes and shoes. Tamarion gained a friend in Jordan, and a mentor in his dad. Fontenot said he was also bullied when he was a child, so he knew it was important to listen to Tamarion’s story. He chose kindness instead of anger and brought the two boys together. “I wouldn’t say that was the goal, but that was the reward,” Fontenot said.
4、What was Fontenot’s attitude toward his son’s being bullied?
A. Amazed and embarrassed. B. Angry and impatient.
C. Calm and sensible. D. Sad and discouraged.
5、Why does the author say “something unexpected happened” in the second paragraph?
A. Fontenot liked Tamarion instantly. B. Tamarion bullied Jordan out of kindness.
C. Tamarion was also a victim of bullying. D. Fontenot and Tamarion’s mother used to be friends.
6、What did Fontenot do to solve the problem of bullying?
A. He turned to the school for help.
B. He asked Tamarion’s mother to settle the problem.
C. He ordered his son never to play with Tamarion again.
D. He made the two boys united and join together.
7、What can we know from the text?
A. Jordan’s being bullied arose from his clothes and shoes.
B. Jordan and Tamarion got along well in the beginning.
C. Tamarion’s mother paid little attention to Tamarion.
D. Fontenot communicated with Tamarion’s mother to know about him.
Standing in my office 25 years ago was an unknown young astronomer with a half-smile on her face. She had come with an impossible request that my team modify (修改) our thoroughly tested software to make one of our most important scientific instruments do something it had never been designed for and risk breaking it. All to carry out an experiment that was basically a waste of time and couldn’t be done—prove that a massive black hole lay at the center of our Milky Way.
My initial “no way” gradually gave way in the face of her cheerful but firm determination. Andrea Ghez, one of three winners of this year’s Nobel Prize in Physics, impressed me with her work on providing solid evidence of a supermassive black hole with the mass of four million suns living at the center of the Milky Way galaxy.
That determination and the willingness to take calculated risks has always characterized Andrea. For 25 years she has focused almost completely on Sagittarius A-the name of our own local supermassive black hole. It is remarkable that an entire field of study has grown up in the quarter century, of searching for and finding evidence of these monsters thought to lie at the heart of every large galaxy.
Andrea did her work at the W. M. Keck Observatory’s (天文臺(tái)) twin telescopes on Maunakea, Hawaii, in the calm and clear air almost 14000 feet above the Pacific Ocean. She started using the very first instrument fixed on Keck Observatory’s Near Infrared Camera(NIRC), now gracing the lobby (大廳) at our headquarters.
Andrea is fond of pointing out that one of the reasons for her success has been this tight and rapid loop (循環(huán)) between the needs of the astronomers and the engineers who responded to the challenge.
This is my friend and longtime colleague, the one who refused to take “no” for an answer: Andrea Ghez, winner of the 2020 Nobel Prize in Physics.
8、Which words best describe Andrea Ghez?
A. Confident and adaptable. B. Determined and creative.
C. Brave and kind. D. Cooperative and generous.
9、What is the passage mainly about?
A. The Noble Prize for physics. B. How Andrea won the Nobel.
C. Friendship between colleagues. D. What makes Andrea different.
10、What does the underlined word “gracing” in Paragraph 4 mean?
A. Bringing honour to. B. Being kind enough to attend.
C. Moving in a smooth way. D. Advancing the level.
11、From which is the text probably taken?
A. A research paper. B. A science fiction.
C. A website about scientists. D. A fashion magazine.
The first great agricultural revolution happened 10,000 years ago, when humans settled on farms. The second was the “green revolution” from the 1930s to the 1960s, in which advances in fertilization, mechanization, and irrigation dramatically increased global food production. The third is likely to come from information, as digital technology and big data help farmers make better decisions and drive up crop production.
Michael Stern, president and chief executive officer of Climate Corp., said that the ability to gather detailed information about farmers’ fields, coupled with advances in weather forecasting, computing power, and artificial intelligence, will change farming from a business that often reacts to the past—applying insecticide this year because of a disease outbreak last year—to one that uses real-time data and weather forecasts to make more accurate decisions for the season to come.
Over the course of a growing season, farmers make 40 to 50 key decisions that affect crop performance. Recent trends that have swept other areas of society—such as cheap data storage, the ability to transfer data witlessly, and dramatic increases in computing power—have the potential to transform the farm.
Stem offered the example of a farmer preparing for the regular fall fertilizing of his fields who delays the application after being informed of a coming storm. That decision reduces runoff, keeps fertilizer on the field, and helps controls farmer’s costs. As data gathers season after season, computer models will help farmers better manage fertilizer and other additions to optimize production and minimize runoff.
Remote sensing is another way that modern technology can help farmers know what’s going on in their fields. Many farmers drive around to monitor growth and watch for pests and diseases. But these surveys are typically random and don’t cover more than 2 percent of a field. Remote sensing can provide accurate data that covers an entire field and cables recommendations tailored to what’s going on in the stricken area.
12、What may the third agricultural revolution help farmers do in the future?
A. Make reasonable decisions. B. Grasp computing ability.
C. Deal with big data. D. Develop business potentials.
13、Why did the author give an example in Paragraph 4 according to the text?
A. To confirm the coming of a storm.
B. To explain the reason of fertilizer runoff.
C. To stress the effect of information application.
D. To show the use of computer models.
14、What is the advantage of the remote sensing technology?
A. It can show typical random. B. It can drive up crop production
C. It can remove pests and diseases. D. It can offer exact statistics.
15、What is the author’s attitude to the coming agriculture revolution?
A. Opposed. B. Neutral. C. Positive. D. Unclear.

D“Why do we hold ourselves back from beginning a new job, a new business, starting or ending a relationship(試試下面的方法來(lái)克服恐懼,繼續(xù)前進(jìn))”是疑問(wèn)句,形式上符合;內(nèi)容也和下文“Try the following to overcome that fear and move forward.(為什么我們會(huì)在開(kāi)始一份新工作、一項(xiàng)新業(yè)務(wù)、開(kāi)始或結(jié)束一段關(guān)系時(shí)阻礙自己)”保持一致,下一句為本句問(wèn)題的解答。
選項(xiàng)E“That’s why it’s so important to reflect on why you are hesitant to begin your new project(這就是為什么反思為什么你在開(kāi)始新項(xiàng)目時(shí)猶豫不決是如此重要)”,與上下文內(nèi)容一致。
根據(jù)下文“One powerful way to ease your fears is to embrace your anxiety. Get familiar with the feeling of being afraid, and accept it! It’s there to protect you, but it doesn’t have to control you. In fact, go ahead and accept that failure is possible. Even plan on doing it wrong first.(緩解恐懼的一個(gè)有效方法就是擁抱焦慮。熟悉害怕的感覺(jué),并接受它!它是用來(lái)保護(hù)你的,但它不需要控制你。事實(shí)上,勇往直前,接受失敗是可能的。甚至一開(kāi)始就打算做錯(cuò))”可知,心理上接收失敗的可能性也是緩解恐懼的一種方法。選項(xiàng)B“Accept the possibility of failure next(接受失敗的可能性)”與下文一致,為本段主要內(nèi)容。
根據(jù)段首句“Another way to reduce anxiety is to concentrate your life on leaning, instead of achievement.( 另一個(gè)減少焦慮的方法是把你的生活集中在學(xué)習(xí)上,而不是成就)”可知,專注學(xué)習(xí)也是減少焦慮的方法。選項(xiàng)C“it makes trying new things much less scary(它讓嘗試新事物變得不那么可怕)”正是指的不會(huì)那么恐懼。故選C。
⑤根據(jù)下文“That’s why we need courage. So if all else fails, just do it scared.(這就是為什么我們需要勇氣。所以,如果所有的方法都失敗了,那就恐懼地去做)”說(shuō)明空處所填內(nèi)容指的是“下文需要勇氣的原因”再根據(jù)“恐懼地去做”說(shuō)明指的是恐懼并不會(huì)消失。選項(xiàng)F“Actually, anxiety about starting something new never really goes away(事實(shí)上,開(kāi)始新事物的焦慮從未真正消失)”與下文一致。故選F。
