Christy and Ted Wilson set aside time every Sunday evening to go over their shared to-do list. Most of the items are tasks like scheduling doctor appointments and organizing play dates for their three young children.
In every relationship, there’s a question of who is pulling their weight around the house. Now that a majority of married-couple families have two working parents, the old “rough day at the office” excuse doesn’t really cut it.
Women still handle more of the household activities, but men increasingly are spending time on food preparation and cleanup. To keep things fair or at least to avoid fights, couples are turning to technology. They are using project management apps designed for the workplace to divide up and track household to-dos and reserving a portion of their date nights to compare chores. In some cases, they are even turning it into a game, setting rewards for getting things done.
The imbalance doesn’t always follow gender lines There was a time when Mr. Wilson was in more of a “Mr. Mom” role: He was attending business school, while Mrs. Wilson was clocking long hours as a lawyer. So Mr. Wilson had more flexibility to take on more of the child-care and household-management work. The couple’s roles changed after Mr. Wilson graduated and started an e-commerce company. “We have had a lot of switching back and forth of who was in the driver’s seat in terms of household management so one person wasn’t too put upon,” she said. They began using calendars to keep the family schedules straight and sharing a to-do list in the Notes app on their phones. Each can take on chores the other dislikes.
4.What does the underlined part “pulling their weight around the house” in Paragraph 2 probably mean?
A.Taking on the household chores.
B.Sharing the burden of buying a house.
C.Running around the house to lose weight.
D.Making excuses for not doing any housework.5.Why does the couple turn to project management apps?
A.To stop their arguments over dates.
B.To play phone games with each other.
C.To distribute and follow household to-dos.
D.To reward themselves for doing the housework.6.What can we infer from the Wilsons’ example?
A.Digital apps can only handle household arguments.
B.Couples need to switch their roles each day.
C.Gender plays a key role in management.
D.Understanding can help settle conflicts.7.What would be the best title for the text?
A.Ways to finish housework. B.Advantages of the Notes app.
C.A family to-do list goes digital. D.Working parents face difficulties.

One man’s white bread is another man’s green vegetables.
That’s the key from The Personalized Diet, a new book from Israeli authors Eran Segal and Eran Elinav. The authors say it’s time to admit to ourselves that one-size-fits-all diets don’t work, and when it comes to nutrition, it’s about doing what works best for your body, not catching the latest diet fashion.
“For years, we’ve been trying to search for that silver-bullet diet and we’ve been miserably failing,” Segal said. “And that’s because the best diet for each person really has to be tailored to that individual.”
They conducted a personalized nutrition project at Weizmann, where hundreds of volunteers agreed to have their blood sugar tested after meals. One participant in the study, a woman named Ruti, said she was surprised that it was tomatoes — not ice cream or candies — that were raising her blood sugar level. Ruti recalled, “I have now significantly reduced my intake of tomato and I’m feeling much more energetic, which still surprises me. I have already lost a couple of pounds, and I have high hopes that I have finally found the answer to my weight struggle, too.”
The Israeli scientists found that some people can consume traditionally unhealthy foods with little??or no rise in their blood sugar levels, while others have a stronger response, and therefore shouldn’t eat those foods. It’s those kinds of results that you can only find from a personalized diet.
“What we were surprised to find out was just like any other food, there is no such thing as good bread,” Elinav said. “The response to bread was completely individualized.”
8.What is suggested in the first sentence?
A.Everyone has their own tastes.
B.Nutrition serves your body best.
C.The latest diet doesn’t fit each person.
D.People’s response to the same food is different.9.What kind of diet have we continuously pursued?
A.A diet that is low in fat and sugar.
B.A diet that works best for everyone.
C.A diet that begins a new diet trend.
D.A diet that provides all the nutrition.10.Ruti’s example suggests that to control weight, one needs to________.
A.eat much fewer tomatoes
B.control their blood sugar levels
C.struggle for weight loss constantly
D.eat according to his or her blood sugar level11.Why is Elinav’s opinion on bread mentioned in the last paragraph?
A.To show the importance of good bread.
B.To explain the popularity of white bread.
C.To stress the need of the personalized diet.
D.To advise people not to eat unhealthy food.

A remarkable new study on how whales behaved when attacked by humans in the 19th century has implications for the way they react to changes caused by humans in the 21st century.
The paper is authored by Whitehead and Rendellt at Dalhousie University and their research addresses an age-old question: if whales are so smart, why did they hang around to be killed? The answer? They didn’t. Using newly logbooks detailing the hunting of whales in the north Pacific, the authors discovered that within just a few years, the strike rate of the whalers’ harpoons (魚(yú)叉) fell by 58%. This simple fact leads to an astonishing conclusion: that information about what was happening to them was being collectively shared among the whales, who made vital changes to their behaviour. They learned quickly from their mistakes.
“Sperm whales have a traditional way of reacting to attacks from orca (殺人鯨),” notes Whitehead. Before humans, orca were their only predators (捕食者), against whom sperm whales form defensive circles, their powerful tills held outwards to keep predators at bay, “But such techniques just made it easier for the whalers to kill them,” says Whitehead.
Sperm whales are highly socialized animals, able to communicate over great distances. Information about the new dangers may have been passed on in the same way they share knowledge about feeding grounds. They also possess the largest brain on the planet. It is not hard to imagine that they understood what was happening to them.
The hunters themselves realized the whales’ efforts to escape. They saw that the animals appeared to communicate the threat within their attacked groups. Abandoning their usual defensive formations, the whales swam upwind to escape the hunters, ships, themselves wind-powered.
Now, just as whales are beginning to recover from the industrial destruction by 20th-century whaling fleets, whose steamships and grenade harpoons no whale could escape from, they face new threats created by our technology. “They’re having to learn not to get hit by ships, cope with the depredations (劫掠) of long line fishing, the changing source of their food due to climate change,” Whitehead says. “The same sort of urgent social learning the animals experienced in the whale wars of two centuries ago is reflected in the way they negotiate today’s uncertain world.”
12.What is the new study mainly about?
A.Whales’ social lives. B.Whales’ emotional intelligence.
C.Whales’ reaction to climate changes. D.Whales’ behavior under human attack.13.What caused Whales to make changes to escape the hunters’ ship?
A.The wind in their favor.
B.Their powerful physical strength.
C.The shared ship attack information.
D.Their usual defensive formations.14.What does the author intend to do in Paragraph 5?
A.To provide background information.
B.To summarize the previous paragraphs.
C.To introduce a new topic for discussion.
D.To add more related evidence for the study.15.What’s Whitehead’s attitude towards whales’ future survival?
A.Pessimistic. B.Optimistic. C.Cautious. D.Unclear.

Cat behaviors can vary enormously from one cat to another. They are certainly interesting creatures with many cute and sometimes strange habits that often have us wondering. 16 Why do cats like high places? Wild cats were predators (捕食者), and frequenting high places meant they had somewhere safe to view their territory, watch for danger, and attack prey. 17 Our domesticated cats also enjoy watching the world from above, which provides them with a safe, calm place away from the activity in a house.
18 Both wild and domestic cats are drawn to hiding and sleeping in contained areas. At home, it is often the humble cardboard box. Cats are predators, and a box offers a perfect place to hide while waiting for prey and also to spring out of, as only one entrance exists.
Why does my cat give “gifts”? Cats are well known for leaving us gifts that we may not want, such as lizards or mice. 19 Showing off their catch to you means you are a part of their family and they want to show you their hunting skills. 20 Instead, be sure to offer your cat a variety of toys to help them satisfy these natural bunting instincts.
A.Why do cats sit in boxes?
B.Why do cats like playing with boxes?
C.This appears to be coded into their DNA.
D.Don’t express anger, as they will not understand.
E.Cats are predators and will hunt if allowed outdoors.
F.A cat’s natural behavior is to withdraw and hide in stress situation.
G.Veterinarian Dr. Katrina Warren provides answers to your questions about cat behaviors.

根據(jù)文章第二段“Immersive art is not just a technical way to represent video and audio in huge spaces. The word immersive indicates a deep commitment of intentions which connect images and sounds in a way that the audience is able to experience a different way of the art.(沉浸式藝術(shù)不僅僅是在巨大空間中表現(xiàn)視頻和音頻的技術(shù)方法。沉浸式這個(gè)詞表明了一種深刻的意圖,通過(guò)將圖像和聲音連接起來(lái),讓觀眾能夠體驗(yàn)到一種不同的藝術(shù)方式)”以及第三段“True to its name, this exhibition transforms the iconic paintings of Vincent van Gogh into moving, wall-filling projections. “Immersive Van Gogh” promises half-a-million cubic feet of projections that pull from some of the post-impressionist’s most recognizable pieces, including The Bedroom, Sunflowers and, yes, The Starry Night.(正如它的名字一樣,這次展覽將文森特·梵高的標(biāo)志性畫作變成了移動(dòng)的、充滿墻壁的投影。 故選A。
根據(jù)文章第五段“To be announced before the exhibit opens, existing ticket holders will receive an email with the place name and location once it is made public.(在展覽開(kāi)始前宣布,一旦公開(kāi),現(xiàn)有的門票持有者將收到一封附有地點(diǎn)和地點(diǎn)的電子郵件)”可知,想要得到本次展演的確切地點(diǎn),只能通過(guò)電子郵件。故選D。
根據(jù)題干“a couple with a 5-year-old child who would like to own a Van Gogh cushion (一對(duì)夫婦和一個(gè)5歲的孩子,并且想擁有一個(gè)梵高坐墊)”可知,一共有兩個(gè)成人,一個(gè)五歲的小孩,并且想要梵高坐墊。再結(jié)合“Ages 6-16 (children 5 and under do not require a ticket)”可知,五歲以下的小孩不需要門票。 所以a couple with a 5-year-old child who would like to own a Van Gogh cushion (一對(duì)夫婦和一個(gè)5歲的孩子,并且想擁有一個(gè)梵高坐墊)至少需要$154.98。故選B。
4.A 5.C 6.D 7.C

由第三段首句“Women still handle more of the household activities, but men increasingly are spending time on food preparation and cleanup.(女性仍然承擔(dān)更多的家務(wù)活,但男性越來(lái)越多地花時(shí)間準(zhǔn)備食物和打掃衛(wèi)生。)” 故選A項(xiàng)。
根據(jù)第三段中“They are using project management apps designed for the workplace to divide up and track household to-dos and reserving a portion of their date nights to compare chores.(他們使用專為工作場(chǎng)所設(shè)計(jì)的項(xiàng)目管理應(yīng)用程序來(lái)劃分和跟蹤家庭待辦事項(xiàng),并預(yù)留了一部分約會(huì)時(shí)間來(lái)比較家務(wù)。)”
根據(jù)第四段中“There was a time when Mr. Wilson was in more of a ‘Mr. Mom’ role(曾經(jīng)有段時(shí)間Wilson先生充當(dāng)了“媽媽”的角色)”及“The couple’s roles changed after Mr. Wilson graduated and started an e-commerce company. ‘We have had a lot of switching back and forth of who was in the driver’s seat in terms of household management so one person wasn’t too put upon,’ she said.(在Wilson先生畢業(yè)開(kāi)了一家電子商務(wù)公司后,這對(duì)夫婦的角色發(fā)生了變化。
根據(jù)全文內(nèi)容,結(jié)合第三段中“To keep things fair or at least to avoid fights, couples are turning to technology.(為了保持公平,或者至少避免爭(zhēng)吵,夫妻們開(kāi)始求助于科技。)”

根據(jù)文章第一句“One man’s white bread is another man’s green vegetables. 和第二段的“That’s the key from The Personalised Diet, a new book from Israeli authors Eran Segal and Eran Elinav. The authors say it’s time to admit to ourselves that one-size-fits-all diets don’t work, and when it comes to nutrition, it’s about doing what works best for your body, not catching the latest diet fashion.
根據(jù)第三段“‘For years, we’ve been trying to search for that silver-bullet diet and we’ve been miserably failing,’ Segal said. ‘And that’s because the best diet for each person really has to be tailored to that individual.’
根據(jù)第四段“One participant in the study, a woman named Ruti, said she was surprised that it was tomatoes — not ice cream or candies — that were raising her blood sugar level. Ruti recalled, ‘I have now significantly reduced my intake of tomato and I’m feeling much more energetic, which still surprises me. I have already lost a couple of pounds, and I have high hopes that I have finally found the answer to my weight struggle, too.’
根據(jù)最后一段的“‘What we were surprised to find out was just like any other food, there is no such thing as good bread,’ Elinav said. ‘The response to bread was completely individualized.’

根據(jù)第一段“A remarkable new study on how whales behaved when attacked by humans in the 19th century has implications for the way they react to changes caused by humans in the 21st century.(一項(xiàng)關(guān)于鯨魚(yú)在 19 世紀(jì)被人類攻擊時(shí)的行為的新研究對(duì)它們?cè)?21 世紀(jì)對(duì)人類造成的變化的反應(yīng)方式具有啟示意義。)”

根據(jù)第四段“Sperm whales are highly socialised animals, able to communicate over great distances. Information about the new dangers may have been passed on in the same way they share knowledge about feeding grounds.
根據(jù)第五段“The hunters themselves realized the whales’ efforts to escape. They saw that the animals appeared to communicate the threat within their attacked groups. Abandoning their usual defensive formations, the whales swam upwind to escape the hunters, ships, themselves wind-powered.(獵人們自己也意識(shí)到了鯨魚(yú)試圖逃跑。
根據(jù)最后一段“Now, just as whales are beginning to recover from the industrial destruction by 20th-century whaling fleets, whose steamships and grenade harpoons no whale could escape from, they face new threats created by our technology. “They’re having to learn not to get hit by ships, cope with the depredations (劫掠) of long line fishing, the changing source of their food due to climate change,” Whitehead says. “The same sort of urgent social learning the animals experienced in the whale wars of two centuries ago is reflected in the way they negotiate today’s uncertain world.”(現(xiàn)在,正當(dāng)鯨魚(yú)開(kāi)始從 20 世紀(jì)捕鯨船隊(duì)的工業(yè)破壞中恢復(fù)過(guò)來(lái)時(shí),它們面臨著我們的技術(shù)帶來(lái)的新威脅。

16.上文“Cat behaviors can vary enormously from one cat to another. They are certainly interesting creatures with many cute and sometimes strange habits that often have us wondering. 根據(jù)下文“Why do cats like high places? 和“Why does my cat give “gifts”?
17.上文“Why do cats like high places? Wild cats were hunters, and frequenting high places meant they had somewhere safe to view their territory, watch for danger, and attack prey. 下文“Our domesticated cats also enjoy watching the world from above, which provides them with a safe, calm place away from the activity in a house.(我們家養(yǎng)的貓也喜歡從上面看世界,這為它們提供了一個(gè)遠(yuǎn)離室內(nèi)活動(dòng)的安全、平靜的地方)”再次舉例證明貓的這一性格特點(diǎn)。
根據(jù)下文“Both wild and domestic cats are drawn to hiding and sleeping in contained areas. At home, it is often the humble cardboard box. Cats are predators, and a box offers a perfect place to hide while waiting for prey and also to pounce from, as only one entrance exists. 故選 A 項(xiàng)。
19.根據(jù)下文“Showing off their catch to you means you are a part of their family and they want to show you their hunting skills.
20.根據(jù)上文“Cats are well known for leaving us gifts that we may not want, such as lizards or mice.(眾所周知,貓會(huì)給我們留下我們可能不想要的禮物,比如蜥蜴或老鼠)”和“Showing off their catch to you means you are a part of their family and they want to show you their hunting skills. 下文“Be sure to offer your cat a variety of toys to help them satisfy these natural hunting instincts.

此處考查介詞短語(yǔ)for example,故刪除an。

句子主語(yǔ)為We,故as引導(dǎo)的時(shí)間狀語(yǔ)中they應(yīng)改為we,故將they改為we。
此處考查固定搭配have a gift for,意為“對(duì)……
此處陳述事實(shí),because引導(dǎo)的原因狀語(yǔ)從句應(yīng)用一般現(xiàn)在時(shí),故將 were 改為are。
52.Dear Terry,
I understand that you are considering several part-time job opportunities to fund your summer travels, and I believe that the language teacher position would be a great fit for you.
By taking a language teaching job, you can earn a higher hourly pay of 150 yuan and enjoy a fixed schedule, which will help you achieve your goals in a short amount of time without disrupting your current lifestyle. This is what the other two jobs cannot promise. Besides, as a language teacher, you would be responsible for tutoring local elementary students in English, which could provide you with valuable teaching experience and help you develop your communication and interpersonal skills. In addition to teaching, this experience can also broaden your perspective and enhance your cultural awareness, which is also what you expect to do during your trip.
I hope this information helps you make a decision, and I wish you all the best in your job search.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua
