China’s Yutu 2 Rover, which was crossing a crater (環(huán)形山) on the far side of the moon, discovered a mysterious, cube-like structure in November as it scanned the skyline. The unknown structure seemed to be located around 260 feet away from where the Rover crossed.
Our Space, associated with the Chinese National Space Administration which controls Yutu 2, first noted the object in a post on December 3rd; the story gave a nickname to the object “mystery hut”. Yutu 2 has since adjusted course to check out the cube, and will spend the next 2 to 3 lunar days investigating this mysterious moon feature.
The Yutu 2 Rover launched with China’s Chang’e 4 mission in 2018, and reached the moon in January 2019. The mission aimed to discover more about the far side of the moon, or as pop culture calls it, the “dark side” of the moon. Contrary to this nickname, the far side of the moon is not actually always dark, it just faces away from the Earth. The rover, solar powered, goes into a kind of hibernation (休眠) when the sun sets on the far side of the moon, and wakes up to work when the sun rises over the crater.
Yutu 2 has seen plenty of interesting moon features in its travels already, including a strange gel (膠狀物) that turned out to be some rocks melted together, and some pieces that were likely to be from the impact of a meteor (流星). The Chang’e 4 mission has also brought forth some fascinating new discoveries like what could be pieces of the moon’s mantle (覆蓋層).
Whatever this structure turns out to be, Yutu 2 will continue uncovering other secrets the “dark side” of the moon is holding.
4. What does “mystery hut” in paragraph 2 refer to?
A. Yutu 2 Rover. B. A cube-like structure.
C. A newly discovered crater. D. Chinese National Space Administration.
5. Why was Yutu 2 sent onto the moon?
A. To research into the dark side of the moon.
B. To explore the use of solar energy on the moon.
C. To take pictures of the sun from the far side of the moon.
D. To measure the distance between the earth and the moon.
6. What can we learn from the discoveries made by Yutu 2?
A. Sunshine cannot reach the far side of the moon.
B. The temperature on the moon is always changing.
C. Many rocky mountains rise on the surface of the moon.
D. The moon may have been crashed into by another planet.
7. In which section of a website may this text appear?
A. Health. B. Technology. C. Politics. D. Economy.
【答案】4. B 5. A 6. D 7. B

After the birth of her second child in 2019, Keet was motivated to make changes by the thought of what kind of world her children were going to have. “I was totally awake in the middle of the night having climate anxiety,” she said. “I just brought this person into the world—what does her future look like? What does my son’s future look like?”
Keet started the seeds of Planetarian Life based on her experiences doing Meatless Monday, but with fewer restrictions and a larger sense of purpose. “There’s vegetarianism(素食主義), but these things don’t describe my why,” she said. “I’m eating this way for the planet.”
That’s the most basic definition of who a planetarian is, according to Keet: someone who is changing the way they eat and live for the good of the Earth.
With Planetarian Life, Keet decided to take a small-steps approach. Instead of cutting out meat entirely or working with unfamiliar ingredients, planetarian eating works around making small replacements in your usual meals on your own schedule and to your own preferred tastes.
This can be as simple as using chickpeas instead of rotisserie chicken to make chickpea “chicken” salad or cooking a big batch of quinoa to keep on hand for quick skillet vegetable bowls throughout the week.
Like compound interest, the minor changes made to familiar meals add up to a bigger lifestyle change over time—and they are easier to stick with than drastic cuts. Because no foods are banned from the planetarian way of eating, it’s up to every individual to take it as far as they want to go.
8. Why did Keet want to make changes in 2019?
A. She could not sleep well at night.
B. Her children’s future career worried her.
C. Her second child was not healthy enough.
D. She wanted to make the world a better place.
9. What does being a planetarian mean according to Keet?
A. Removing meat from daily meals.
B. Changing one’s usual meals completely.
C. Taking on a job about protecting the Earth.
D. Adopting an environmental-friendly way of eating.
10. What is the advantage of Planetarian Life according to the last paragraph?
A. It is healthier. B. It saves more time.
C. It provides more choices. D. It helps shape good character.
11. Which of the following words can best describe Keet?
A. Anxious and selfish. B. Responsible and considerate.
C. Hardworking and independent. D. Knowledgeable and quick-thinking.
【答案】8. D 9. D 10. C 11. B

【9題詳解】

【10題詳解】

The history of the flying car is almost as old as that of powered flight itself. It started with the Curtiss Autoplane of 1917 awkward-looking equipment with separable wings. It never left the ground. Later machines made it into the skies but failed to take off commercially. Money is now pouring into flying taxis. On March 30th Lilium, a German company that develops them, announced cooperation with a special-purpose acquisition company (SPAC) that values it at $3.3 billion — a sign that investors think the business will fly.
Thanks to better batteries and lightweight materials the vehicles, some of them ten years in the making, are ready to carry passengers. Up to 300 firms are working on short-range battery-powered craft that take off and land vertically, estimates Natasha Santha of LEK, a consultancy.
Midway between a cab and a helicopter, flying taxis have obvious advantages over both. Quiet electric motors allow them to operate frequent services. They require only a small area to land, unlike noisy helicopters, which face severe operating restrictions in most cities. They can fly four or five times faster than a cab can drive and do not get stuck in traffic. Prices can be kept low by ride-sharing. Joby, based in California, says its five-seater machine will enter commercial service in 2024. The firm calculates the initial cost of around $4 per person per mile may soon fall by 25%. It plans to start service soon afterwards.
The real change will come when full autonomy (自動(dòng)駕駛) takes out the cost of a pilot. Archer hopes to run such aircraft by 2028. They face fewer obstacles in the air than earth-bound cars do on the road; airliners mostly fly on autopilot as it is. Still, as one industry insider puts it, it is probably best to adapt passengers and regulators to airborne taxis before laying off the driver.
12. What do investors think of the business of flying cars?
A. Unpredictable. B. Challenging. C. Promising. D. Rough.
13. What is the advantage of flying taxis over cabs?
A. Fewer noises. B. Faster rides.
C. Lower prices. D. Smaller parking spaces.
14. What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A. There will be many traffic jams in the air.
B. Flying taxis will soon take the place of cars.
C. Flying taxis without drivers are not widely accepted.
D. The current planes are equipped with no human pilots.
15. What is the best title for the text?
A. Flying Taxis Take Off at Last B. Long History of Flying Taxis
C. Life in the Future with Flying Taxis D. High-tech Brings Flying Taxis into Reality
【答案】12. C 13. B 14. C 15. A
