Something that I learned from both my parents was the importance of having respect(尊重)for other people. I remember one day when we were travelling on a bus and I sat down while other people were standing. My mother cried to me, “ 31 ! You have young legs and you don’t need to sit down. ” At the time I felt bad about being told off in public, but now I understand. I think children nowadays have 32
that respect and it really makes me angry if I see children sitting down while 33 people are standing.
One area in which we had a lot of rules was table manners. For example, we aren’t allowed to start our meal 34 the oldest person had started. We had to say “thank you” when our food was 35 , and eat everything on our plates before we could 36 the table. We couldn’t make any noise when eating. Worse than that, we were only 37 to have sweets at the weekend, as a special treat if we had been good.
Although my upbringing(養(yǎng)育)was perhaps a bit 38 compared with modern children. I’m very thankful to my parents for giving me a clear 39 in life. Even though I was sometimes 40 , I think it has made me a better person. In my opinion, children need clear rules, but more than that they need to learn how to get on with other people and realize they are not the center of the world.

Many schools began to provide at least two hours of after-school services for students on weekdays in September, 2021. Instead of going to different subject-training classes outside school, students can stay at school to get after-school services including homework tutoring(輔導), sports and interesting activities. Students can choose one or two activities they like. After-school services not only make students learn better and live more healthily, but also make it easier for parents to pick up their children. More parents can pick up their children themselves instead of grandparents. In the past, when schools closed at 4 pm, many parents were still at work and couldn’t pick up their children. However, some parents expressed their worries. They really want to learn how they can help manage their children’s study and life reasonably. Here are some tips(建議).
◆Form good habits. Because of having more time, children are supposed to get into more good habits. Good habits can make all things easy.
◆Make plans. Making plans can help children manage their time better. Put aside their pleasures until their plans are finished.
◆Make full use of the time at school. Children should finish all their homework at school and solve all the problems in time. Don’t leave today’s work for tomorrow.
◆Help around the house or in the community. Proper housework at home and more volunteer jobs in the community can help children improve their sense of duty as well as their confidence.
◆Set a goal. Without a goal, there is no clear direction; without direction, there is no life.

57. What do after-school services include?
