When you come to London for a trip, it's best to plan a day out so as to maximise (最大化) the number of things you can see. Time permitting, we can offer advice by e-mail if there's anything you particularly want to see.

It is probably the strangest sport anyone has ever invented. And at first sight, it looks like the easiest. Competitors have to do two things. The first is to stand still. The second is to place their hands anywhere on the body of a car, and keep it there.
This is where things start getting difficult. Lots of people are doing the same thing. And the winner of the "handathon" contest is the person who can carry on doing it for the longest time. That person gets to own the car.
It still seems to be an easy thing to do. At the beginning it is. Anyone can stand still. But when the contest has been going for four or five days, standing still seems like the most difficult job in the world. And keeping the hand in place over this time becomes an act of serious attention. After a few days, the hand seems to belong to someone else—someone who wants to go home and get some sleep.
Competitors are allowed to take a five-minute break every hour to eat, drink or do whatever else is necessary. No one is allowed to lean on the car for support. Winners need to be able to show great powers of attention. They also need to be able to develop special skills.
Maybe the popularity of the "handathon" is due to the fact that it is not necessary to be a trained athlete to enter. Competitors in the Longview Handathon certainly don't seem to do much preparation. Most say they will prepare by "getting lots of sleep". Others say they will "eat healthy food" or "pray for success". The whole event gives ordinary people the chance to do something interesting and win something in the end.
Handathons are competitions, but there is little rivalry(競爭) between competitors. They help each other out and keep each other's spirits up. People who drop out early return with food, drink and encouragement.
8.What ability is the most important in a "handathon"?
A.Not leaning on the car.
B.Standing without any support.
C.Eating and drinking in five minutes.
D.Having strong powers of attention.
9.Why is the "handathon" popular?
A.Someone can win with special training.
B.Anyone who is interested can join in it.
C.It doesn't need to make any preparation.
D.People get along well with each other in it.
10.Which of the following statements about the "handathon" is RIGHT?
A.Competitors are not allowed to drop out.
B.Competitors don't encourage each other.
C.Competitors can sit down and take a 10-minute break every hour.
D.A competitor has to place his or her hand anywhere on the body of a car.
11.Which is the writer's opinion about the "handathon"?
A.It is the easiest of all sports.
B.It can last a whole day.
C.It is not as easy as it looks at first.
D.It is no good competing in a "handathon".
D
Tears of happiness and shouts of joy rang out last week at the San Jose mine in northern Chile as 33 miners were lifted to freedom, one by one. The men, ranging from 19 to 63 years old, have been buried alive since a cave in the copper and gold mine where they were working fell down on August 5. It is the longest time anyone has ever survived being trapped underground.
??? After the fall, the men found an emergency shelter off one of the mine's tunnels. The temperature in the dark shelter was around 90 F. For more than two weeks, the miners' water came from the radiator tanks on their work vehicles. They shared a supply of food that was meant to last for only 48 hours.
??? The miners were totally separated until rescue teams made contact with the men on August 22. They sent a note to the surface explaining their situation. Rescuers drilled small holes to reach the cavern and sent down supply tubes containing food, water, clothes, medicine, fresh air and other supplies. They also received letters from their families, a television set and games.
??? Additional falls slowed down rescue efforts. Finally, a tunnel was built that could fit a 13-foot rescue capsule, called the Phoenix. The escape hole measures 28 inches across, a tight fit for the winding 20-minute, 2,041-foot ride. The first miner reached the surface just after midnight on Wednesday. More than half of the men had been brought to safety by Wednesday afternoon.
??? The miners were met by family members who were waiting at Camp Hope, a settlement of tents near the mine. Chile's president, Sebastian Pinera, cheered at the scene and hugged the miners. "We made a promise never to surrender, and we kept it," he said. After an immediate medical exam, the men were air-lifted to the nearest hospital for 48 hours of observation.

D. The rock was too hard to dig a tunnel.
15. The underlined word "surrender" in the last paragraph may mean "________".

閱讀下面材料,根據(jù)其內(nèi)容和所給段落開頭語續(xù)寫兩段,使之構(gòu)成一篇完整的短文。
As I walked along the sidewalk in front of Surplus Unlimited, a car that was about to change my life had just turned onto Route 82 from the CVS parking lot. I looked up and noticed the elderly couple in the car heading toward me. As the car rolled past, the driver suddenly collapsed against the steering wheel (方向盤) right in front of my eyes. His wife stared blankly out of the passenger side window. She was unaware that her car was now rolling—without a conscious driver—down the center of a busy road.
I began to jog alongside the moving car. My mind assessed the situation. Somebody needed to stop that car!
I reached forward, but there was nothing to grab. I pounded on her window. She looked confused. "Roll down the window!" I yelled, gesturing wildly. With the window down, I was able to grab the door frame. I pulled hard against the force of the moving vehicle. On the far side of the car, the traffic streamed by in the opposite direction. Cars passed one after another. Nobody slowed down. Nobody seemed to notice.
Thankfully, the driver's foot must have slipped off the gas pedal (踏板) when he lost consciousness. I kept pulling, and the car began to slow.
Just then, a woman appeared from behind me. She ran alongside the driver side door. She opened the door and as the car was slowing, she managed to shift it out of "Drive". A joyful "We did it!" feeling swept over me.
But the car was now stopped in the center lane (車道) with traffic still moving in both directions around us and we need to help this man. Quickly! The woman called 911 while I checked his vital signs. He was not breathing. He had no pulse. He had about five minutes until he was dead. CPR was needed in to time.
注意:
1.續(xù)寫詞數(shù)應(yīng)為150左右;
2.請按如下格式在答題卡的相應(yīng)位置作答。

第三部分 寫作
第一節(jié)
答案:
The negative effects of using cellphones on students
As we all know, more and more students use cellphones in school nowadays. Though a cellphone is a useful tool, it could have lots of negative effects on students.
Firstly, using cellphones for a long time does harm to students' health, especially to their eyesight. Secondly, by making calls and sending messages, students seldom communicate with relatives and friends face to face. Thirdly, some students send messages or watch videos instead of listening to teachers in class. As a result, their school grades go down rapidly. Last but not least, students who play with cellphones often have less time to play sports.
Therefore, parents and teachers should limit children's using cellphones.
第二節(jié)
答案:
Thoughts started running through my mind. I needed to start CPR. But I couldn't do CPR on a person who was sitting in a car. Did I remember how to do CPR? There was no way for us two women to lift this guy and carry him through this traffic to the side of the road. By the time an ambulance arrived, he would be dead. Just then, over my shoulder, I noticed a black SUV had pulled up behind us.
In an instant, the man from the black SUV was standing beside me and said. "I am a doctor" I stepped back. He confirmed that the man indeed had no pulse. He quickly carried the unconscious driver to the sidewalk with the help of the woman. I walked around to the passenger window to check on the elderly lady. Her hands were shaking wildly, tears in her eyes. She could only manage to whisper, "Will he be OK?" "I hope so," I told her softly, as the doctor began CPR. And his breath recovered!
