For the first time in two years, our school held a Halloween homecoming dance. This year’s homecoming was around a recent soccer victory against the neighboring school. Everyone was in a particularly festive mood.
At the same time, for a safer gathering during the COVID-19, we were required to hold the dance outdoors if we wanted to go mask-free. This was unfortunate because temperatures in Boston were expected to be no higher than 10℃ that night. Later, I realized that the cold was the least of my worries.
We sent apology letters out to the neighbors surrounding the school and told them to expect loud music on Oct 29. Then on that Friday night, members of the Student Union gathered together to decorate the tent provided by the school as a protection from the cold.
After two hours of blowing balloons, putting fake spider webs on trees and setting up the food table, people started showing up in their costumes. I ran away to the bathroom to dress up. Having seen all the news about Asian hate in the US, I decided that it was important to present Asian spirit—thus I proudly dressed myself up in a traditional Chinese qipao.
When I got outside again, the dance was in full swing. There was a DJ spinning songs, and the lights were flashing away, though no one was on the dance floor yet. However, things took a sharp turn when a familiar song—Gangnam Style by South Korean singer Psy—came on, and the dance floor was never empty again until the end of the evening. With every beat drop, the crowd jumped crazily to the beat, and I followed along. My feet hurt so much at the end of the evening, but I’ll admit that it was worth all of the excitement I experienced.
4、What can we learn about the homecoming dance?
A. It was our school’s first-ever homecoming.
B. It was celebrated after a sports victory.
C. It was held to fight against COVID-19.

7、What does the underlined phrase “in full swing” in paragraph 5 mean?
A. Going well and strong. B. Getting well prepared.
C. Getting started officially. D. Being in an awkward silence.
Reflection of real culture?
Crazy Rich Asians, adapted from Singaporean-American author Kevin Kwan’s 2013 novel of the same name, has become a surprisingly successful Hollywood movie and a hot topic on social media.
Without doubt, the film is a rare US film with an all-Asian actors, full of Asian elements, such as characters playing mahjong or using red decorations at a wedding. It could be said that Crazy Rich Asians reflects a new trend in Hollywood for multiculturalism(多元化). Just like fans who praised Black Panther(2018) for featuring African characters, those from Asia now have role models of their own in a Hollywood movie.
However, when we take a closer look at the film, we can see that it’s clearly produced for a Western audience. The film is about the funny story of Chinese-American professor Rachel Chu and her rich Singaporean boyfriend Nick Young and his family. According to The Paper, although the movie throws light on Asian culture, it is still a display of American values, instead of those of Asian people. It still can’t help showing the cultural traditions and lifestyle of the US. The romance story even finds its roots in Disney fairy tales. In the movie, the large houses and the fancy parties represent the lives seen in movies like The Great Gatsby (2013) and The Wolf of Wall Street (2013).
“There are a lot of people who don’t relate to that…of course there will be lot of fain criticism(批評(píng)) about the fact that it doesn’t fully represent the entire population,” wrote Penelope Poulou of VOA News.
According to Psychology Today, the film is “not an accurate(準(zhǔn)確的) description of most Asians nor is it meant to be”. So, although Crazy Rich Asians doesn’t completely break stereotypes(刻板印象) of Asian people, it’s still a small step in the right direction. And while it’s encouraging to see a movie about Asian people made for a Western audience, it’s obvious that there’s still a long way to go.
8、What can we learn about Crazy Rich Asians?
A. It was on show in 2013. B. It is adapted from a TV series.
C. It stars all-Asian actors. D. It was shot in China.
9、The author mentioned Black Panther mainly to ______.
A. describe the popularity of multiculturalism in the US
B. show Hollywood’s efforts in promoting multiculturalism
C. stress the differences between the two films
D. explain its influence on Crazy Rich Asians
10、Why have some people criticized Crazy Rich Asians?
A. It fails to describe real Asian culture.
B. It doesn’t change Americans’ stereotypes of Asians.
C. It has copied from The Great Gatsby.
D. It shows too much American elements.
11、Which word best describes the author’s attitude toward Crazy Rich Asians?
A. Subjective. B. Disappointed. C. Objective. D. Doubtful.
????Have you ever heard that some animals can understand zero as well? Experiments with monkeys and birds have proven that they can master it. But now, the understanding of zero has been found in a most unlikely candidate (候選人): bees.
????According to a recently published study in the journal Science, Australian and French researchers worked together to do experiments to prove that bees are the first insects (昆蟲(chóng)) to “understand that zero belongs at the lower end of a sequence (序列) of numbers”, according to a report by Science Daily.
????Scarlett Howard, a researcher at RMIT University in Melbourne, trained bees to choose from several cards with different numbers of shapes printed on them. Correctly choosing the card with the fewest shapes earned them a reward (回報(bào)) of sugar water. For example, the bees learned to choose three elements when given three versus four; or two elements when given two versus three. And then these bees were given a challenge—a card that was entirely plain and that they had never seen before. But 64 percent of the time, they chose to fly toward the plain card instead of the card that had shapes on it. This suggests that the insects understand that zero stands for something less than two or three, according to Science magazine.
????The researchers said that the findings have opened a door to new understandings of how different brains understand zero. “If bees can understand zero with a brain of less than a million neurons (神經(jīng)元) (compared with the 86, 000 million neurons of a human brain), it suggests there are simple and useful ways to teach AI new tricks.”
12、What did the Australian and French researchers recently find?
A. Bees can tell different shapes.
B. Bees can understand the meaning of zero.
C. Bees arc better at numbers than monkeys and birds.
D. Most insects can be trained to understand numbers.
13、What does paragraph 3 mainly talk about?
A. The process of the experiment.
B. The reason for the experiment.
C. The preparations for the experiment.
D. The result of the experiment.
14、Why is the study important?
A. It proves that animals can understand what zero is.
B. It explains the importance of zero in modem maths.
C. It suggests bees can complete more difficult tasks.
D. It shows there might be easier ways to train AI.
15、What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Bees: An insect can make sense of zero
B. A new way to train bees how to perform
C. AI: A robot can play tricks
D. A new finding of creating AI with a simple brain

Communication is the most important element of any relationship. If you don't communicate, you won't know each other's problems and concerns.(溝通是任何關(guān)系中最重要的元素。如果你們不溝通,你們就不會(huì)知道彼此的問(wèn)題和關(guān)切)"可知,本段主要建議和一起居住的老年人做好溝通交流,C項(xiàng):Communicate with your elderly roommate(和年長(zhǎng)的室友交流。)符合語(yǔ)境。故選C項(xiàng)。

④推理判斷題。根據(jù)下文"So if you start out knowing who pays for what, have it written down.(所以,如果你一開(kāi)始就知道誰(shuí)為什么買單,那就把它寫(xiě)下來(lái))",B項(xiàng):Records will make a big difference here. record呼應(yīng)下文write down。
You can ask your elderly person questions about their life, what they think, and what they care about. As you're the younger person with less experience, you can also talk to them and ask them for guidance on issues relating to both of you.(你可以問(wèn)你的老人關(guān)于他們生活的問(wèn)題,他們的想法,他們關(guān)心什么。由于你是年輕人,經(jīng)驗(yàn)較少,你也可以和他們談?wù)?并在與你們雙方有關(guān)的問(wèn)題上向他們尋求指導(dǎo))"可知,建議在和老人合住時(shí),很多事情可以詢問(wèn)老人,因?yàn)樗麄內(nèi)松啔v,生活經(jīng)驗(yàn)豐富,E項(xiàng):Older people have experienced life much more deeply than you often think.(老年人對(duì)生活的體驗(yàn)比你通常認(rèn)為的要深刻得多。)

A. teller出納員;B. hairstylist發(fā)型師;C. fire fighter消防員;D. cook廚師。

32、答案:①inspiration②is regarded③how④philosophical⑤which/that⑥ourselves⑦to see⑧a⑨for⑩had got/got
此處是of所有格結(jié)構(gòu),即“名詞+of+名詞”結(jié)構(gòu),所以此處應(yīng)用名詞inspiration(靈感),故填inspiration。
分析句子結(jié)構(gòu)可知,空處作謂語(yǔ),且句子描述的是客觀事實(shí),應(yīng)用一般現(xiàn)在時(shí), be regarded as是固定搭配,表示“被認(rèn)為”,主語(yǔ)是east(東方),是第三人稱單數(shù),所以應(yīng)用is regarded,故填is regarded.
分析句子結(jié)構(gòu)可知, "no matter _______ challenging the journey is."是狀語(yǔ)從句,此處表示"無(wú)論怎樣"應(yīng)用no matter how來(lái)引導(dǎo)狀語(yǔ)從句,即"no matter how+形容詞/副詞+主語(yǔ)+謂語(yǔ)(+賓語(yǔ))",故填how.
分析句子結(jié)構(gòu)可知, "led up to the cable car station."是限定性定語(yǔ)從句,先行詞是steps(臺(tái)階),指物,在定語(yǔ)從句中作主語(yǔ),應(yīng)用關(guān)系代詞which或that來(lái)引導(dǎo)定語(yǔ)從句,故填which或that。
sb. be+形容詞+to do"是固定句型,表示"做某事讓某人感覺(jué)……"所以此處應(yīng)用to see,故填to see。
分析句子結(jié)構(gòu)可知, "_____ beautiful walk through pine trees and flowering peach trees, waterfalls and pools of water."
make for是固定搭配,表示"造就;促成", 故填for。
分析句子結(jié)構(gòu)可知, "I _____(get) from the top"是限定性定語(yǔ)從句,省略了關(guān)系代詞that或which,空處作謂語(yǔ),此處既可以表示剛剛看到的風(fēng)景,用一般過(guò)去時(shí)got,也可以表示在"我"欣賞美景前已經(jīng)看到了風(fēng)景,此時(shí)應(yīng)用過(guò)去完成時(shí),had got,故填had got或got。
