A
In an effort to slow the spread of the coronavirus, many New York City venues are closed. Here’s a selection of art to be found around town.
Jane Freilicher
For more than fifty years, as Abstract Expressionism gave way to Pop, then to Minimalism, and on to Neo-Expressionism, until art’s isms(主義) exhausted themselves, Freilicher devoted herself to painting “eternally fixed afternoons”, finding beauty at home. The fifteen works in the exhibition at the Kasmin gallery, lead you into the artist’s inside. — Andrea K. Scott(kasmingallery.com)
Betye Saar
Two years ago, the Getty Research Institute mentioned Betye Saar as “the conscience(良心) of the art world for over fifty years”. The small but abundant exhibition “Betye Saar: Call and Response”, at the Morgan Library & Museum, pairs the artist’s found-object collection with her less often seen sketchbooks(素描簿). —A.K.S.(themorgan.org)
Frederick Weston
When this black, H. I. V. positive artist arrived in New York from Detroit, in 1973, he wanted to become a fashion designer. But the city’s culture scene at the time was overwhelmingly white, and Weston withdrew into a world that he could control. An exhibition of Weston’s work is on view at Ortuzar Projects, which is to remind us that society’s best visual critics often fall through the cracks, and to question why it still takes us so long to recognize them. — Hilton Als(ortuzarprojects.com)
Stella Zhong
A raised floor, the color of greenish grey transforms the Chapter gallery into something like a sci-fi stage set or a mini golf course. Zhong, who was born in Shenzhen, China, achieves an effect that is playful and strangely cold. Moving around in the exhibition is rather like living in the space of a video game. — J. F.(chapter-ny.com)
21. Where are some private objects on display?
A. At Ortuzar Projects. B. At the Kasmin gallery.
C. At the Chapter gallery. D. At the Morgan Library & Museum.
22. If you like paintings about the peace of home, whose works will draw your attention?
A. Jane Freilicher’s. B. Betye Saar’s.
C. Frederick Weston’s D. Stella Zhong’s.
23. Which of the following statements is TRUE?
A. Betye Saar died young for the art world.
B. Frederick Weston’s works reflect serious social matters.
C. Jane Freilicher changed her painting style a few times.
D. Stella Zhong is holding an exhibition of hi-tech products.

I took a job at a vet clinic almost five decades ago. As an animal lover, I accepted the position on the condition that I wouldn’t have to assist with any wounded animals. I couldn’t bear to see any creature in pain.
At the end of my first week, we were closing the office when a young man ran up to us holding severely injured Doberman pinscher puppy(杜賓幼犬) in his arms and begging us to save his life. The four-month-old puppy had been hit by a car.
The doctor and I ran back into the operating room. The only place the skin was still attached to this poor little animal’s body was around one shoulder. The vet worked tirelessly, sewing him back together again. That was the easy part. The puppy had broken multiple bones, including his spine(脊椎). If he survived the next few days, we were quite sure he would never walk again.
That day forever changed my life. I became the vet’s assistant in all things medical. One of my first jobs was to give that puppy daily physical therapy. I remember moving his tiny legs to try to keep his muscles from weakening.
Weeks went by until one day. I felt this little fighter push back ever so slightly. And eventually he could finally use his legs.
Fast-forward about a year, I walked into the clinic’s crowded waiting room and called the name of the next client. Suddenly, a huge Doberman who had been standing quietly with his owner broke loose and dashed toward me. I found myself pinned against the wall with this magnificent dog standing on his hind legs, his front paws on my shoulders, washing my face with abundant and joyful kisses!
I still tear up in amazement at the display of love and gratitude the dog had for me that day all those years ago.
24. Which was the possible position the author took originally at the clinic?

26. What can we infer about the dog?
A. He got well immediately.
B. He got fierce afterwards.
C. He was a loyal and adventurous companion.
D. He had great affection for the author.
27. What is the best title of the passage?
A. A Loving Vet. B. A Lucky Dog.
C. A Grateful Patient. D. Life-exchanging Story.

Australia’s biggest soft drink makers, including Coca-Cola and Pepsi, promised on Monday to cut industry-wide sugar use by a fifth over seven years to prevent obesity in a country where nearly a third of the population is dangerously fat.
Australia has the fifth-highest rate of obesity in the developed world, according to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, a health condition that can exacerbate(使惡化) problems from diabetes to heart disease.
Beverage(飲料) producers in Australia have already seen some consumers switch away from sugary drinks because of health concerns and they have promised the reduction as authorities press for a sugar tax similar to one introduced in Britain in April.
“We think this is a step in the right direction,” said Geoff Parker, chief executive officer of the Australian Beverages Council(ABC), the main body representing non-alcoholic drink makers, an industry which generates A $5 billion($3.7 billion) in annual revenue. “We’re certainly encouraging other sectors of the food supply, and indeed other categories to join with us to reduce sugar across the portfolio to help handle what is a really a complex problem and that is obesity.”
Companies will aim for a 10 percent reduction in total sugar per 100 milliliters in their drinks by 2020 and a 20 percent reduction by 2025, achieved via a combination of recipe modification and increasing sales of low-sugar beverages, the Beverages Council said.
The World Health Organization(WHO) said last year drinking fewer sweet drinks was the best way to prevent excessive weight and prevent chronic diseases such as diabetes, although fat and salt in processed foods were also to blame.
It has pressed for governments to tax sugar.
In Australia, where according to WHO statistics two-thirds of adults are overweight and nearly a third are obese or grossly overweight, the Australian Medical Association has pressed for a sugar tax but it has been resisted by the country’s two major political parties. “We don’t want to see the price of groceries go up.” Health Minister Greg Hunt told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation on Monday.
28. Why did soft drink makers promise to lower sugar in their drinks?
A. They wanted to cut down the cost.
B. They helped people to lose weight.
C. They kept people away from sugary drinks.
D. They responded to the tax law from governments.
29. What can we learn from Geoff Parker?
A. People are unwilling to drink non-alcoholic drinks.
B. Beverage producers take a positive attitude to sugar reduction.
C. Many soft drink makers manage to prevent the obesity.
D. The Australian Beverages Council has encouraged people to keep fit.
30. How will soft drink producers reduce sugar according to the Beverages Council?
A. They will set a goal for the sugar use in their drinks.
B. They will limit the total sugar to 10-20 percent of drinks.
C. They will adjust ingredients and sell more low-sugar drinks.
D. They will produce more low-sugar beverages every year.
31. What should people do to keep away from obesity according to WHO?
A. People should push governments to tax sugar.
B. People should reduce fat and salt in their food.
C. People should try to reduce sugary drinks in diet.
D. People should lose more weight to keep healthy.

I’d always loved the idea of reading to kids when I was a teen and sworn that by the time I had children of my own, I’d read to them as often as possible. Even when my older son was a baby, I read to him every single night. As time went on, it became a place, a time of bonding, of uninterrupted connectivity, of non-formal learning and deep joy. Bedtime stories became an essential part in our household.
In the days and months after my older son’s autism(自閉癥) assessment, sleeplessness would raise its ugly head so frequently. I read as much literature and observed my son as much as I could. I decided that even routinizing something as simple as preparation for bed may be key to both him and the rest of the household getting a good night's sleep.
“Our Bedtime Routine” was thus born. I made sure to include a massage(按摩) as often as possible. Even a cup of delicious hot chocolate was part of the schedule. But central to our routine was a bedtime story. Having a solid bedtime routine meant that most days, my sons had a good start to their next day.
My older son still struggled with the simple yet challenging business of falling asleep. There has been a bedtime story program where local stories are being read to children on social media. Three of my very own stories were read on this program Read2MeTT. When my older son again struggled to close his eyes, I, inspired by Read2MeTT and recalling our old routine, read one of my stories to my sons.
At 16, my older son’s too old for a bedtime story, too old to be comforted by the gift of a nightly tale. Or is he? For the first time in over a month, my older son smiled, pulled up his sheets and simply went to sleep.
32. What is may be the effect of the author’s “Our Bedtime Routine”?
A. Making her family well-educated.
B. Helping her older son sleep peacefully.
C. Assisting her older son in his business.
D. Having her family famous through Read2MeTT.
33. Why does the author mention Read2MeTT?
A. It inspired her to read her own stories.
B. It collected most of her bedtime stories.
C. It originated from her bedtime routine.
D. It offered many stories to children with autism.
34. How did the author feel when her older son was 16?
A. Concerned. B. Embarrassed. C. Confused. D. Relieved.
35. What can we infer about the author from the text?
A. She is strong-willed.
B. She is very ambitious.
C. She concentrates on teaching reading.
D. She opens a program on social media.

It can be really hard to identify your talents and they are often in the places you least expect. You may even be very good at things that you believe you are bad at. 36
Open your mind to all paths. A good place to start evaluating your talents is to just open your mind to the possibilities. Keep in mind that talents extend beyond just playing the guitar or dancing like a professional. 37 For example, being able to read emotions very accurately is a very useful talent.
38 As you reflect on yourself in search of your talents, start by looking at your past. What did you do a lot as a kid? What were you known for? Sometimes this can reveal some of your deepest talents and certainly will reveal interests that can be explored further.
Write down everything that you enjoy. This will help you to see what things you truly enjoy doing and give you an opportunity to think about why you enjoy these things. 39 Doing these things may allow you to use the special knowledge that you have about these subjects.
Open up time for new things. If you spend all day on the couch after school or work or you spend all of your waking weekend hours at parties, then you’re going to have very little time for self-discovery. 40 So give room for discovering your talents!
A. Stay with others more.
B. Look back on your past.
C. Your talents can make you famous.
D. There are many ways to explore your talents.
E. Your talents will often lie in activities that you’ve not tried yet.
F. For example, you might love playing football or walking in nature.
G. Talents come in all shapes and sizes and extend into many areas of life.
根據(jù)后句“As you reflect on yourself in search of your talents, start by looking at your past.”(當(dāng)你在尋找自己的天賦時(shí),從回顧你的過(guò)去開(kāi)始。)
所以選擇項(xiàng)F(例如,你可能喜歡踢足球或在大自然中散步。)

故填their。
分析句子可知,be made to do sth. 故填to show。
分析句子可知,The materials為定語(yǔ)從句的先行詞,從句中缺少主語(yǔ),所以用關(guān)系代詞來(lái)引導(dǎo),先行詞指物,所以用which/that。
分析句子成分可知,while引導(dǎo)的狀語(yǔ)從句中省略了主語(yǔ)和be動(dòng)詞,補(bǔ)充完整應(yīng)用:while the Chinese lanterns were first created for practical use in the house。故填created。
both..and... 故填and。
根據(jù)空格前one of the best可知,此處應(yīng)填名詞復(fù)數(shù)days。故填days。
view...as... 故填as。
故填is celebrated。

注意:1.每處錯(cuò)誤及其修改均僅限一詞;
As we know, experience are of high value in our life. At the first day of my high school, Miss Li, my English teacher, asked us to introduce us in English. In the beginning, all the students felt shy and dared not to express themselves. Miss Li was a new teacher so she became embarrassing, not knowing what to do. At that point, I stood up and spoke loudly, what inspired the others a lot. Soon, everyone was in high spirits and we talked confident. Miss Li praised me highly, say she was proud of me, which has had deep influence on my life. Now I have turned into a person who like taking the lead in life.
2.第二句,At改為On
6.第四句,what改為which
故At改為On。
故us改為ourselves。
這是非限制性定語(yǔ)從句,關(guān)系詞代替前面一句話,而what用來(lái)引導(dǎo)名詞性從句,故what改為which。
have a deep influence on sb.:對(duì)……
who引導(dǎo)的是定語(yǔ)從句,代替先行詞a person,是單數(shù),所以從句中的動(dòng)詞也應(yīng)該用單數(shù)形式,故like改為likes。
