(2022·江蘇南通·模擬預(yù)測)What goes into mind when you think of kung fu, also known as wushu? Maybe the image of Shaolin monks fighting with a serious look in their eyes, or popular children’s movies like Kung Fu Panda.
Recently, Laurence J. Brahm, a documentary filmmaker from the United States, Brahm began a journey of a kung fu pilgrimage(朝圣), traveling to cities in China and the US to search for the origin(起源).
Brahm himself is a kung fu lover who has been practicing for more than 40 years. For him, practicing this craft was more than fun.
Around 10 years ago, Brahm was unable to use one of his legs for about two years. But by practicing martial arts(武術(shù)), he was able to recover step by step. Now, kung fu has become a daily activity for him.
“Martial arts can help us connect our body, connect our blood flow, and also help connect us into our environment to increase our awareness.” Brahm said.
Still others find other meanings in the practice.
“Chinese kung fu is full of Chinese philosophies(哲學(xué))and core values”, Hong Kong actor Bruce Leung told Xinhua.

The traditional values of kung fu, actually, are in the minds of all Chinese people. Why does China want to be in harmony with other nations? “It’s part of the psychology(心理). (2022·江蘇·淮安市淮安區(qū)教師發(fā)展中心學(xué)科研訓(xùn)處九年級期中)Want to stay away from colds? Put on a happy face.
Compared to (與……相比) unhappy people, those who are cheerful and relaxed are less likely to suffer from colds, according to a new study. It’s possible that being happy helps the body fight illnesses, say the researchers from New York University.
“It seems that positive (積極的) feelings may reduce the danger of illness,” said the study’s chief researcher Sheldon Cohen.
In an earlier study, Cohen found that people who were cheerful and lively caught coughs and colds less often. People who showed positive feelings were also less likely to tell their doctors that they felt ill.
In this study, Cohen’s team interviewed 193 adults every day for two weeks. During the interviews, the people told researchers about the happy or sad feelings they had that day. After the two weeks, the people were given colds by doctors and had to stay alone in a room for six days.
Cohen believes that when people experience positive feelings, their body may produce a chemical that helps fight illness and disease. So if you are worried abut your health, look on the bright side more often.
5.According to Cohen, which of the following may help fight illness?
    A.Eating. B.Crying. C.Laughing. D.Sleeping.

Jumpers with Chinese characters, coats covered in tiger stripes and shoes with traditional flower patterns—these days, it’s easy to find people wearing homegrown sportswear on Chinese streets.
China’s sportswear brands, like ANTA Sports, Li-Ning and XTEP, have reported big growth in recent years, said Xinhua. For example, on March 22, ANTA Sports said its total revenue(收入) in 2021 hit 49.3 billion yuan, a 38.9 percent year-on-year increase. XTEP’s total revenue doubled from 2017, up to 10 billion yuan for the first time in 2021.
The sharp growth in homegrown sportswear partly results from a trend called “guochao”, or “China chic”. It has driven need for local brands and products with traditional Chinese designs. Its main followers are Generation Zers, as they begin to turn from international brands to locally produced ones, noted CGTN.
“Now ANTA has good design abilities. They are as comfortable and good as other foreign brands that charge (要價) more money. So why not ANTA?” a 24-year-old graduate surnamed Liu from Beijing, told Global Times.
The Beijing Winter Olympics this year also pushed for the growing sportswear market. ANTA, for instance, was the official sportswear provider of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics. It used its smart technology to support China’s 12 teams in events including short track speed-skating and curling.
At the Beijing 2022 Games, more local brands and products got global attention. For example, Peak had the second-most delegations(代表團) wearing its products at the Beijing Winter Olympics. Delegations from seven countries including Iceland, Ukraine, Belgium and Romania wore Peak, reported the Paper.

D.ANTA was the only official sportswear provider of the 2022 Winter Olympics.
38.Which is the best title for this passage?
A.A new style of fashion B.Brands on the rise
C.The best part of Beijing Winter Olympics D.Sports fashion around the world

(2023·江蘇·無錫外國語學(xué)校一模)In 2018, Science magazine asked some young scientists what schools should teach students. Most said students should spend less time remembering facts and have more space for creative activities. As the Internet grows more powerful, students can get knowledge easily. Why should they be required to carry so much of it around in their heads?
Civilizations (文明) develop through forgetting life skills that were once necessary. In the Agricultural Age, a farmer could afford to forget hunting skills. When societies industrialized, the knowledge of farming could be safe to forget. Nowadays, smart machines help us to get most human knowledge. It seems that we no longer need to remember most things. Does it matter?
Researchers have realized several problems that may happen. For one, human beings have biases (偏見), and smart machines are likely to increase our biases. Many people believe smart machines are necessarily correct and objective (客觀的), but machines are trained through a repeated testing and scoring process. In the process, human beings still decide on the correct answers.
Another problem relates to the ease (容易) of getting information. When there were no computers, efforts were required to get knowledge from other people, or go to the library. We know what knowledge lies in other brains or books, and what lies in our heads. But today, the Internet gives us the information we need quickly. This can lead to the mistaken belief—the knowledge we found was part of what we knew all along.
In a new civilization rich in machine intelligence (智慧), we can easily get to smart memory networks where information is stored. But dependency on a network suggests possibilities of being harmed easily. The collapse of any of the networks of relations our health depends upon, such as food and energy, would produce terrible results. Without food we get hungry; without energy we feel cold. And it is through widespread loss of memory that civilizations are at risk of falling into a dark age.
We forget old ways to free up time and space for new skills. As long as the older forms of knowledge are stored somewhere in our networks, and can be found when we need them, perhaps they’re not really forgotten. Still, as time goes on, we slowly but unquestionably become strangers to future people.
39.Smart machines are likely to increase our biases because ________.
A.they go off course in testing and scoring B.we control the training process on them
C.we offer them too much information D.they overuse the provided answers
40.The ease of getting information from the Internet ________.
A.frees us from making efforts to learn new skills B.prevents civilizations from being lost at a high speed
C.misleads us into thinking we already knew the knowledge
D.separates the facts we have from those in the smart machines
41.According to this passage, the following are true except ________.
A.Most young scientists replied to Science that students should have more creative activities.
B.Nowadays, with smart machines, people no longer need to remember most things.
C.The use of smart machines causes some problems to people.
D.It is through widespread loss of memory that civilizations are at risk of falling into a dark age.
42.The writer’s main purpose in writing this passage is to ________.
A.question about the standards of information storage
B.discuss our problems of communication with machines
C.stress the importance of improving our remembering ability
D.remind us of the risk of depending on machines to remember

(2023·江蘇·無錫外國語學(xué)校一模)“Quickly, Dorothy,” she shouted. “Go to the cellar (地窖).”
Aunt Em ran to the door of the cellar and opened it. Dorothy picked up Toto and ran to the cellar door. Before she could climb down the ladder into the cellar, a great cyclone (龍卷風(fēng)) picked up the house. It turned it round and round and round and then carried it high into the sky.
It was not very dark. Dorothy felt as if she were riding through the sky. She held on to Toto and climbed under her bed, where she stayed for several hours. Then, although the house was still moving, she fell asleep.
When she woke up, she did not know how much later, the house was on the ground. It was in a field full of flowers, and there were hundreds of beautifully colored birds flying about and singing. Not far away, there was a stream with clear, fresh water.
Dorothy was still under her bed. She got up and left the house. She was surprised to see three little men and a little woman walking toward her. They were very strangely dressed. The men’s clothes were white and had little stars all over them.
When they saw Dorothy, they walked up to her and bowed (鞠躬).
“Welcome to the land of the Munchkins,” one of the little men said. “We thank you for killing the Wicked Witch of the East. Now our people are free.”
“I’m afraid you are making a mistake,” Dorothy said. “I didn’t kill any witch.”
“Your house did,” one of the little men said. “Look!”
He pointed to the house. Dorothy saw two feet sticking out from under it.
“Oh!” Dorothy shouted. “The house fell on her. What can I do?”
“There is nothing to do,” the little woman said. “The Wicked Witch of the East is dead, and the
    Munchkins are thankful to you.”
“Are you a Munchkin?” Dorothy asked.
“No, but I am their friend,” the little woman said. “I am the Witch of the North.?”

Is it snowing where you are? All the world that I see from my tower is covered in white and the snowflakes are coming down as big as popcorns. The sun is just sitting (a cold yellow colour) behind some colder violet hill, and I am up in my window seat using the last light to write to you.
What a surprise I got five gold presents from you! I’m not used to receiving Christmas presents. You have already given me such lots of things—everything I have, you know—that I don’t quite feel that I deserve (值得) extras. But I like them just the same. Do you want to know what I bought with my money?

And now, Daddy, never say I don’t tell all!
To conclude, (that’s the way the English instructor begins every other sentence), I am very much obliged for my seven presents. I’m trying to make myself believe that they came in a box from my family in California. The watch is from father, the blanket from mother, the hot water bottle from grandmother who is always worrying for fear I shall catch cold in this climate—and the yellow paper from my little brother Harry. My sister Isabel gave me the silk stockings, and Aunt Susan the Matthew Arnold poems; Uncle Harry (little Harry is named after him) gave me the dictionary. He wanted to send chocolates, but (insisted on synonyms.

46.細(xì)節(jié)理解題。根據(jù)第三到第八段“Let’s drop some stones into it…let’s throw some great big rocks down there… Mike saw a big log (木頭). He got an idea…The two of them moved the heavy log over to the hole and dropped it in.”可知,Mike和Dave用了3種東西來判斷洞有多深:小石頭、大巖石和木頭。故選C。

Suddenly, out of the woods, a goat (山羊) showed up, running like the wind…Suddenly, it leaped into the air and down the hole.”和“That couldn’t be my goat. Mine was tied to a big log.”可知,山羊被拴在一根大木頭上,木頭被Mike和Dave兩人扔進洞里了,山羊是被木頭拖進洞里的。由此判斷,這只羊是這個農(nóng)民的。故選B。
