Across the globe, we’ve developed a coffee addiction, and we’ve become addicted to single-use cups:?600 billion disposable cups?are produced and sold annually. But there’s a growing push to cut this down.
Here’s the problem with disposable coffee cups: The thin, waxy, plastic coating inside makes it tricky to recycle or compost them. So, they most go into a landfill More than that, it takes a lot of energy and resources to make them. Starbucks and McDonald’s are trying to develop a disposable coffee?cup that can be both recyclable and compo-stable. But that’s easier said than done. The coffee giants have been dangling a million dollars to anybody who can crack the code.
The Rolling Stones are also thinking about the sustainable cups. If you see the Stones in concert this summer and go to get a drink, there may be no single-use plastic cup for you. The bands approached Michael Martin, who has produced a bunch of big Earth Day concerts, asking for help to eliminate plastic waste. He came up with a simple solution.
"When you come up to get your first beverage(飲料), you put down a $3 deposit, you get a really high-quality Rolling Stones-branded cup," says Martin. "You use it throughout the night, and at the end of the event you can turn your cup in and get your $3 back or you can keep your cup." If you return the heavier plastic cup at the end of the show, it gets washed and used again. Or recycled.
But this idea — returning and reusing a cup — this is not that complicated. So why is this just being tried now? "That’s a really good question," says Martin. "In America, we’re a throwaway society, and so we’re hoping we’ll be able to wake people up and change things." He’s starting with rock concerts because artists have a pretty powerful platform. I mean, if Mick Jagger tells his fans to stop abusing the planet, who’s going to say no to that?
24. Why is there a growing push to cut single-use cups down?
A. Because too many people are coffee addicts.
B. Because disposable cups are hard to recycle and compost.
C. Because it takes a lot of energy and resources to recycle them.
D Because Starbucks and McDonald’s are dangling a million dollars.
25. What does the underlined phrase "crack the code" in Paragraph 2 mean?
A. develop a cup. B. set up a recycling company.
C. find the password. D. solve the problem.
26. What can we infer from Martin’s solution?
A. People will wash the cups at the end of the show. B. People hand in the cup and get 3-dollar reward.
C. People can own the cup by paying 3 dollars. D. People must pay 3 dollars and return the cup.
27. What can we learn from the last paragraph?
A. Artists have a great impact. B. Martin is giving a rock concert.
C. Mick Jagger’s fans are abusing the planet. D. Mick Jagger’s fans never disagree with him.

The United States is a nation of car owners. Ninety-five percent of households own a car, and 85 percent of people get to work in one. This lifestyle contributes to congestion on our roads and damages the environment. As autonomous vehicles begin to hit the streets over the next decade or so, it’s believed that all this will change.
Autonomous vehicles will most likely decrease the number and severity of crashes, allow cars to travel more closely together and improve cooperation between vehicles, all of which tend to reduce traffic jams and increase capacity.
However, this future is not assured. To realize the full potential benefits of driverless cars, we will have to act soon to encourage a culture in which transportation is shared. Many people in the automobile industry assume that driverless vehicles will automatically be shared, but there is little evidence that this is true. Most estimates suggest that driverless cars will eventually be only slightly more expensive than traditional cars, which means they’ll be within reach of many consumers, so users are not willing to share rides.
If most people are going to buy-in to a shared-ride culture, they need to get a significant benefit. Saving a few dollars off the fare isn’t likely to promote the movement dramatically. A better benefit would be knowing that you’re going to reach your destination more quickly. The way to guarantee quick passage is to redesign our roads to give priority to ride-sharing autonomous vehicles like building priority lanes. The cost of travel will also be varied based on how efficiently a vehicle uses the roads. Autonomous vehicles carrying multiple people should get higher priority than those carrying one or none at all.
Decision-makers must push for incentives that encourage the most efficient use of our limited roadway infrastructure(基礎(chǔ)設(shè)施). The autonomous future is rapidly approaching; it is critical that we act now, while the impacts of autonomous vehicles on traffic jams and emissions are still largely within our control.
28. What’s the purpose of the first paragraph?
A. To introduce the topic. B. To tell the severe traffic problem.
C. To prove the necessity of autonomous vehicles. D. To show the damage of cars to the environment.
29. What can we learn from the passage?
A. Autonomous vehicles worsen traffic jams on roads.
B. Autonomous vehicles are likely to reduce traffic jams.
C. Saving some fares contributes to shared-ride significantly.
D. Many people have ridden autonomous vehicles to avoid traffic jams.
30. Which will be a benefit of sharing autonomous vehicles?
A. To save a large amount of money.
B. To promote the development of science and technology.
C. To redesign roads to prioritize car-shared modes.
D. To allow you to reach your destination much more quickly.
31. Which is the best title for the passage?
A. Driverless Cars Will Make Our Traffic Problems Worse.
B. Autonomous Vehicles Will Make a Difference to Traffic.
C. Decision-makers Should Take Some Measures Quickly.
D. The Current Situation of Cars in the United States is Serious.

The Impossible Burger is entirely free of meat. But it looks, smells, feels and—most importantly—tastes so much like real hamburger beef. In fact, plant-based burger alternatives have set off a strong resistance from the beef industry. The Center for Consumer Freedom, a nonprofit that advocates on behalf of the fast food and meat industries has launched an “informational” campaign targeting plant-based meats. The campaign has included TV and online ads, as well as print ads in newspapers. The ads seem to imply that not only is an artificial burger too processed, but that it might be even less healthy than the average beef burger.
While it’s true that a plant-based meat alternative is processed and it’s true that eating one is not as healthy as a pile of raw vegetables, it’s best to take the ads with a generous pinch of salt.
For instance, the additives and preservatives in plant-based meat highlighted in one ad sure sound scary. Who wants something called titanium dioxide (二氧化鈦) in their meal? But the truth is that additives such as those listed in the ads are regularly used in all sorts of packaged foods. And if methylcellulose, a food thickener, sounds unpleasant, it’s really nothing compared with salmonella (沙門菌) poisoning you can get from regular meat.
Also, the ad campaign misses the bigger point. Choosing an Impossible or Beyond burger isn’t just about eating healthy. Burgers, whether they are made from processed pea protein or processed meat, will never be as healthy as organic raw vegetables.
What’s appealing is the prospect of enjoying a juicy burger without the bitter aftertaste of guilt.
Let’s face it. There are huge environmental costs to eating cows. Cattle raising is contributing to climate change, and not just because methane (甲烷) from cows and cattle is responsible for about 14.5% of greenhouse gas. More broadly, our global food production system releases more than a third of the world’s greenhouse gases. Yet we can’t seem to control our meat appetite even knowing that large areas of the Amazon forest have been ruined, and continue to be cut down to make room for more cattle to feed the growing demand for beef. Humans also know full well that many animals live short, cruel lives in awful conditions for the purpose of becoming foods for humans to enjoy at dinner.
A plant-based meat that satisfies meat desires and delivers protein but with a smaller climate footprint is a potential environmental game changer and the reason Impossible Foods was one of those receiving the U.N. Global Climate Action Award in 2019. No wonder the meat industry is on guard.
32. What does the underlined sentence in Paragraph 2 most probably mean?
A. These ads deserve little consideration.
B. We should spread the message of these ads.
C. We’d better be cautious when reading these ads.
D. These ads tell people a lot about plant-based burgers.
33. What do we know about additives and preservatives in plant-based burgers?
A. They are likely to cause poisoning. B. Their use is within the normal range.
C. Some have not been used in hamburgers. D. They are used to ensure burgers taste good.
34. What is the author’s attitude towards plant-based burgers?
A. Supportive. B. Neutral. C. Disapproving. D. Doubtful.
35. Which of the following shows the development of ideas in the passage?
I: Introduction P: Point Sp: Sub-point (次要點(diǎn)) C: Conclusion

People are always denying their pain. They don’t want to recognize it because they want to be sensed as okay, especially at this age. People are so concerned with being cool and being popular that they don’t want to be the person with problems. 36
Talking about matters will help you deal with what is bringing you down. Figuring out what makes you feel painful can be very beneficial because a lot of the time we are so mixed up with our emotions that we need to sort them out with others’ help. 37 Find someone you trust and open your heart to them. Talk to an adult, a tutor or your parent. You’d be surprised to learn how kind people will be. 38 They are willing to make sure you are okay and if you’re not, they want to do whatever they can to help you.
39 It’s always okay to have secrets and things you simply want to keep to yourself. However, if something is really disturbing, meaning that you can’t stop thinking about it, and that it is really bothering you, then you have to try to open up and talk about it. If you really don’t want anyone to know, but still feel the need to talk about the issue and get help, there are hot lines in your area that you can call. The worst thing is to suffer alone. 40 Remember that you deserve to be heard and you deserve to be helped.
A. Your silence is not making you stronger
B. A calm heart allows you to think logically.
C. It’s not always possible to just rely on ourselves.

Dear teachers and students,
I am glad to give you a speech about loving sports.
As we all know, sports play an important part in our daily life. If you are a sport lover, you will gain many benefits from doing sports. For example, it cannot only build up your body, but also strengthen your will. When you feel sad or meet some difficulties, you can choose to play your favorite sport to cheer you up and clear your mind. My favorite sport is tennis. The reason why I love this sport most is that playing tennis helps build strong leg bones. Besides, playing tennis is good for my heart and I can burn a lot of calories without going anywhere. Let’s love sports and keep playing sports, which can make our senior high school life more colorful and meaningful.
Thanks for your listening.

Learning a new language like English can be a challenge, but with regular study it can be done. Classes are important, but so is disciplined practice. It can even be fun. Here are some guidelines to help you improve your reading and comprehension skills and become a better English student. Learning any new language is a time consuming process, Rather than try a few hours of review in once or twice a week, most experts say short, regular study sessions are more effective. As little as 30 minutes a day can help you improve your English skills overtime. Instead of focus on one single task for an entire study session, try mixing things up. Study a little grammar, then do a short listening exercise, then perhaps read an article on the same topic. Don 't do too much.20 minutes on three different exercises is plenty. The variety will keep you engaged and make studying more fun. Reading English-language newspapers and books, listening to music, or watching TV can also help you improve your written and verbal comprehension skills. By doing so repeatedly, you will begin to unconsciously absorb things like pronunciation, speech patterns, accents and grammar.

根據(jù)第二段“Here's the problem with disposable coffee cups: The thin, waxy, plastic coating inside makes it tricky to recycle or compost them.(一次性咖啡杯有一個問題:里面薄薄的蠟狀塑料涂層讓回收或堆肥變得很棘手)”可知,一次性咖啡杯很難被回收和堆肥,因此越來越多的人要求減少其使用。
根據(jù)劃線短語所在句“The coffee giants have been dangling a million dollars to anybody who can crack the code.(咖啡巨頭出資一百萬美元,獎勵能 crack the code的人)”和上文“Starbucks and McDonald's are trying to develop a disposable coffee cup that can be both recyclable and compo-stable. But that's easier said than done.(星巴克和麥當(dāng)勞正在嘗試開發(fā)一種既可回收又可堆肥的一次性咖啡杯。但說起來容易做起來難)”可知,要研發(fā)出環(huán)保的咖啡杯是不容易的事,因此咖啡巨頭通過獎勵來找人解決這一問題,可以推斷“crack the code”意為解決這一問題,D項(xiàng)“solve the problem”意為“解決問題”。故選D項(xiàng)。
【26題詳解】推理判斷題。根據(jù)第四段“You use it throughout the night, and at the end of the event you can turn your cup in and get your $3 back or you can keep your cup.(你可以整夜使用它,在活動結(jié)束時,你可以把你的杯子交上來拿回你的3美元,或者你可以保留你的杯子)”可知,Martin的解決辦法是人們可以付3美元擁有這種杯子。

根據(jù)文章第一段先提到美國汽車擁有量大,加劇了交通堵塞,破壞環(huán)境;該段最后一句提到“As autonomous vehicles begin to hit the streets over the next decade or so, it's believed that all this will change. (隨著自動駕駛汽車在未來10年左右開始上路,人們相信這一切都會改變)”是引起下文關(guān)于自動駕駛汽車的話題。故選A。
根據(jù)文章第二段“Autonomous vehicles will most likely decrease the number and severity of crashes, allow cars to travel more closely together and improve cooperation between vehicles, all of which tend to reduce traffic jams and increase capacity. (自動駕駛汽車很可能會減少車禍的數(shù)量和嚴(yán)重程度,讓汽車更緊密地行駛,改善車輛之間的合作,所有這些都傾向于減少交通堵塞,增加運(yùn)力)”可知,自動駕駛汽車可能會減少交通堵塞。故選B。
【30題詳解】細(xì)節(jié)理解題。根據(jù)文章第四段中“Saving a few dollars off the fare isn't likely to promote the movement dramatically. A better benefit would be knowing that you're going to reach your destination more quickly.(節(jié)省幾美元的車費(fèi)不太可能顯著地促進(jìn)這種活動。一個更好的好處是知道你可以更快地到達(dá)目的地)”可知,共享自動駕駛汽車會帶來的更大的好處是可以讓你更快到達(dá)目的地。故選D。
【31題詳解】主旨大意題。通讀全文可知,文章主要介紹了自動駕駛汽車可以緩解交通堵塞,共享自動駕駛汽車可以讓人們更快達(dá)到目的地。因此文章的標(biāo)題應(yīng)該是“Autonomous Vehicles Will Make a Difference to Traffic. (自動駕駛汽車將改變交通狀況)”,故選B。
D:這是一篇議論文。針對植物性漢堡的出現(xiàn),牛肉行業(yè)強(qiáng)烈抵制,并例舉了植物性漢堡諸多的問題;但作者認(rèn)為植物性漢堡既能滿足肉類需求,又能提供蛋白質(zhì),且氣候足跡更小,是一種潛在的環(huán)境改變者。
【32題詳解】詞義猜測題。根據(jù)第三段中For instance, the additives and preservatives in plant-based meat highlighted in one ad sure sound scary. Who wants something called titanium dioxide (二氧化鈦) in their meal? But the truth is that additives such as those listed in the ads are regularly used in all sorts of packaged foods. 廣告說的添加劑和防腐劑不一定其他食物中沒有,因此可猜測,劃線句it’s best to take the ads with a generous pinch of salt.
But the truth is that additives such as those listed in the ads are regularly used in all sorts of packaged foods. And if methylcellulose, a food thickener, sounds unpleasant, it’s really nothing compared with salmonella (沙門菌) poisoning you can get from regular meat.
A plant-based meat that satisfies meat desires and delivers protein but with a smaller climate footprint is a potential environmental game changer and the reason Impossible Foods was one of those receiving the U.N. Global Climate Action Award in 2019. No wonder the meat industry is on guard. 故選A項(xiàng)。
The Impossible Burger is entirely free of meat. But it looks, smells, feels and—most importantly—tastes so much like real hamburger beef. In fact, plant-based burger alternatives have set off a strong resistance from the beef industry. The ads seem to imply that not only is an artificial burger too processed, but that it might be even less healthy than the average beef burger.

The worst thing is to suffer alone. Remember that you deserve to be heard and you deserve to be helped.
